 Excuse me but.. What are you talking about? He is referring to the early duel access not the subs/mega bundles stuff.

 I don't think so, why would he be mad about people receiving 4-5 drops if you can get only 1 access to duels?

Edit: Except you can the early access multiple times but that doesn't make sense to me.

First let's look at fifa ultimate for a good pay2win example. You pay money to get better players, if two players have the same skill, the player who pays more money is likely to win. 

In hs you can pay for flexibility, a better chance for a better hero. Does it mean you win? No, because you can get 4 bottom-tier heroes and the guy with 2 chances can get s-tier heroes. Is it pay2win ? Slightly, but does it ruins the game for everyone else? No, because I can still get a s-tier hero without tavern pass.

If you really enjoy playing highlander mage - you could try small highlander instead of big highlander. But no-minion mage, small spell mage might perform better. I can't recommend mozaki-OTK mage but I had some success with naga-otk mage if you like to play mage.

All in all, I reached D5 this time with priest instead of mage because of so many hunters/dhs.

I don't know all those modes: arena, bg, duels can be pretty fun if you are on  a roll. Yes, they include heavy-swing-turns, high-rolling, luck - everything that so many people here on the forums despise but they are important to have a really good time instead of a tired yawn.

Atleast Demon Hunter is relatively honest in that respect - its fast and efficient (which is it's identity, for what its worth) and does everything fairly well, but it doesn't slap you from out of nowhere like a lot of the other classes.

 Exactly, at least you know he will slap you in the face and play Kayn Sunfury if you have a taunt or clear your whole board and still slap you in the face. If you play against small spell mage you are in for a suprise every time and often get steamrolled by rng.

Should the hero win you the bg or actually the cards you play?

If it's the first, why bother playing.
Maybe they can create more complex heroes so you can raise your chances to win by playing well. Another option they can create more complex cards and reduce the impact from heroes. Or some middleground, rag definitely feels like the hero is winning you the game.

 Only problem is when the cards from mini-expansion are garbage and the second problem is more expansions will create more powercreep.

Its always the same cycle every expansion:

• release broken cards to create hype/sell more
• fix broken cards way to late
• repeat

Nothing will change, maybe try a different game.
