The game is advertised as free to play. In order for that to be true F2P should get you at least 1-2 complete tier 1-2 decks. Blizzard will convert those F2P players when they want to play 4 or 5 decks.  The game was like that when I started almost 2 years ago. I started around the time karazan was released. I was F2P for the first 6 months and manged to put together mid-range shaman and pirate warrior, and was on my way to a murloc paladin. I really wanted to play the anyfin can happen and the everyfin is awesome Decks so I bought $80 in packs and crafted finja. Ever since I have bought every prerelease. When ungoro hit i think i had 5 or 6 complete or near complete meta decks. Now as a paying player I barely have 2 tier 1-2 decks. I have secret mage and tempo rogue, all I need to get aggro pally is sunkeeper tarim, but I am out of dust. I can't even dream about putting together any of the priest lists or cubelock. Unless I drop another $100. I am effectively in the same spot that I was a year ago except a year ago I was F2P and this year I spent $250 on the game.

Hearthstone is my favorite game, but I have started playing faeria and duelyst they are both just as fun and much cheaper if not as pretty and polished. The fact is as soon as I get a couple competitive decks in one of those games as a casual F2P player I am going to put my money there. I won't stop playing hearthstone, but I definitely won't be making purchases. F2P players are not entitled babies they are prospective paying customers, if it is worth it to be a paying customer. I will tell you from experience, a new player used to be competitive as a F2P, Now  $150 every year is the minimum to be competitive. ATM Hearthstone only feels worth it if you are willing to spend more than $300-$500 every year.

I think you're being quite generous with what the reasonable expectations of a free to play player are.  In my opinion it's got nothing to do with what decks they can craft but how far they're able to progress and getting to between level 15-10 would seem a reasonable target.
I couldn't break 15 until I got mid-range shaman built as soon as I spent $80 and running finja package I hit 10 for the first time. Now I consistently hit rank 5. I would probably already be legend if I could afford cubelock or razakus.
I have every single deck you mentioned, have reache nod legend every single time I went for it, and never spent any money on HS. Stop using the game's business model to excuse your own limitations as a player.
If you made legend with razakus or cubelock you argument is invalid.
Unfortunately, you're the one not making a valid argument. Don't change the subject. Don't use ad hominem. Don't put up straw man arguments. Address the argument he made with a counter argument. All you've done with your statement is prove him right. So good job bro.

Razakus is for sure not healthy for the game. The problem is that: A lot of Hearthstone players like this deck and they think that this is a deck for "smart" people. How stupid some people could are. The deck is for sure autopilot. But for only one reason, it is op, so for this reason the skill required is 0. If you have one class than can win with 3 cards (Raza, kazakus, Anduin.), with this 3 cards you can built an entire deck with the strongest class cards ever seen (like physic scream) and putting all other strongest card of the game or garbage cards to draw (like the novice), how can someone said that this deck is not broken. It is broken, not skilled, and very frustrating to play against. Board clear, board clear, board clear machine-gun face it is also not interactive at all.

Funniest thing I read all day. You could have saved the time, and just posted that you have never played Raza Priest, so you really have no idea how it works.
It seems that I am not the only one. 50,5% of people think that Razakus is not healthy because it has little counterplay and can basically OTK. So probably, you are the funny guy and you should safe your time.
It's even now. Either way simple majority consensus it the cause of many of the problems today. Let the big boys handle this ok.

I chew this deck up and spit it out these days. I mostly play midrange stuff with some mill thrown in here and there. I find it fine to play against since I know how to play against it. I played it quite a bit before the new expansion came out. Parts are gonna rotate out soon anyway. Why all the complaints? Suck it up bitches.

Maybe, just maybe, it's the way you phrased it. You sound like someone who's only interactions with the world are Reddit and Twitch. Why don't you try growing up and being a real person?

for the record, i do not view myself as an average player. I defeated heroic chess match (which doesn't have any way to netdeck and is pure skill) on first try, as well as hit rank 10 or better multiple times and can  get 6-3 in arena. though i don't really play that game mode too often as i find it not my forte and prefer rankded play. I also have almost 4 heroes golden and many epic moments to share.

I am simply just pointing out the obvious frustartions most people are facing, in view of the incoming nerfs/changes. a lot of people are asking for changes to gold cap and nerfs to cards.

Also, i found my hunters perma immune quite fascinating.

Okay there Mr. Trump. We get it. You are a genius lol.
Seriously though, are you even old enough to buy packs without your parent's permission?

Or Europeans that are used to a welfare system...
I am European, and we get a lot of benefits in the Health department that when I learned how it worked in the States I was shocked to see how good we had it, I didn't even remember to mention that when it comes to countries where most health related goods are not even "discounted" by the government. Here getting serious health issues is mostly a problem for the person for their health, there, getting some serious health problem not only causes its harm, it also pushes a really heavy penalty on the financial situation of the individual, it is crazy. And if I also recall correctly, the Educational system is also extremely expensive for higher education levels.
I wasn't talking about health care, but fair point...

Obviously once you leave your parents houses and realize that life has costs that you can't really avoid, it might be easier for you to understand.

posted a message on How much real money have you spent on Hearthstone to date?
    Quote from CrowCard >>

0, because I hate lack of ballance, slow issues fixing and P2W in this game (I mean you theoretically can play it for free, but without top expensive cards your experience will be miserable). I'm not going to support HS by any means unless they will address those problems (yet I still like other Blizzard's games and I can pay for them).

You know those are all lies and you're just being one of the sheep spreading this bullshit because it's fashionable to do so. Did your parents really do this poor of a job raising you? Don't make dumb blanket statements. Grow up and do like every other reasonable person and preface it with "in my opinion" or "I think". Otherwise your just a dishonest shill for the opinions of the vocal minority.

Somewhere around $160-$170 since beta I'd say. I pre-purchased for 3 expansions, the welcome bundle, and maybe a wing or two of an adventure. Been free to play for a while though. I can get enough gold between expansions and get enough of the cards I want that it makes no sense for me to spend money on the game anymore. They should make the game more expensive so they can actually get some of my money :p.

posted a message on I've spent $120 dollars on this expansion and can't make any of the tier 1 decks on Tempo Storm right now
    Quote from Thrizdun >>

$120 is 20% the average american of my ages monthly income. Blizzard is not hurt for money and this game keeps getting more expensive with every expansion. I think this is an honest problem that can be fixed if anyone wants to have an honest conversation about it. I can't imagine being a new player today and even pro's are complaining about the cost.

It's not even 3% of my monthly income and I still don't spend that on Hearthstone. I simply saved up over 7000 gold and got plenty of cards and have have dust to spare in case something pops up in the meta a month from now. It's more than affordable and you're just peddling some bullshit argument you read somewhere else and you think you are special. Most people have called you out for what you are, a bad decision maker.
Also, you seem to have no knowledge of economics. The in game costs are what they are because the demand is there at that price. Supply and demand decide the price. Not some fuckboy on a forum who makes paltry money, blows it on Hearthstone, gets salty about his blown money, and makes a post about the "cost" of the game when he's really just salty about his poor decision making skills. People need to get used to the fact that the laws of supply and demand make the cost what it is, not individual opinions. Don't like it, don't buy it. And don't forget you aren't guaranteed shit. Packs are random just like any other CCG.

posted a message on Psychoanalyses of the many mindsets of Hearthstone players
    Quote from MProdigy >>

Cyber bullying is the reason for corpus data collection. This has been done extensively in forums like reddit and mayoclinic. Do people calmly and respectfully disagree with a persons thoughts, or, attack the person instead? The vast majority of cyber bullying occurs when someone’s statements are not the source of ridicule; rather, people attack the person without basis.

It was expected that people attack me instead of my ideas.  The data will show the degree to which people blindly attack the person opposed to the person.

Saying my ideas are bullshit is the more rational response.  Saying that the medical field is fucked and me practicing in the field is a catastrophe is quite an intense reaction.  Especially over a pseudo player analysis.

So my psychoanalysis of you is that you are the asshole who thinks that they aren't an asshole and wonders why everyone gets pissed at you. This is just pure pretentious assholery and you got called on it by damn near everyone. Welcome to life.
If it really is just an experiment you are an intellectually dishonest academic and your results are not worth publishing. Personally I think you are just backtracking on your silly bullshit now that you've been called out.

I hope this isn't the kind of analysis done for your your thesis. It's childish, lacks depth and rigor, biased, and has no data behind it. Do you realize you can't say anything about the person on the other side without asking them and getting a good answer or knowing them? It looks like a copy and paste from what people say in the salt thread followed up by a bunch of pretentious nonsense.

I've been in a few of these classes in my day and, while interesting, the subject matter is definitely not intellectually rigorous. Not only that, basic questions like what happens when something falls outside of the generalizations people who study this stuff made for everyone is treated as a difficult question. It's really not. It just means you were incomplete in your analysis or your hypothesis was wrong. However, sweeping generalizations over facts are the signature of that field of study.

This is just wrong, especially if you aspire to play in tournamants, you cannot keep up by grinding, you have to pay.
Indeed. A famous streamer was once forced to spend hundred of dollars on cards to play in a tournament because his collection was in the wrong region. He didn't have to but what chance would he have had with basic cards and no time to grind?
Is this really your argument for the game being pay to win? You are really something...

posted a message on Hearthstone on airplane wi-fi (United Airlines)

On Delta it's good enough to stream video so I'd assume United is similar. I've been on many of those flights myself, but haven't flown United in years. I switched over to Asian airlines because US airlines are just bad at everything.
