Vynacio posted a message on Netdecking and reaching Legend?Posted in: General DiscussionI wonder how many of you guys reaching legend without using decks on such assisting websites or pro players' deck?
For me, my best self-build deck to play was Mill Rogue in Wild. I was able to reach rank 5 with it. In standard, my highest was rank Legend using raza priest that I myself tech cards depending on my meta.
How about you guys? -

WhatAChamp posted a message on The Pepper Thread - Share your good vibes!Posted in: General DiscussionPlayed Reno Mage against Exodia Pally in wild. Although we're both playing pretty unique decks, he decides to BM like crazy the whole match. He made a number of misplays that led to me burning 3 of his cards on his Acolytes but he regularly thanked me every time he thought he made a good play. Well, I managed to keep him from ever holding a horseman on board, even Fireballing one at one point. Well eventually he got his Emperor tick off but didn't have the spells to OTK me so he decided to make a Beardo play for 3 horsemen and hope I couldn't remove them. Well, I pulled my flamestrike and cleared the last of his board, causing him to finally concede and try to add me in what I would assume was a fit of rage. No thanks buddy.

iandakar posted a message on Hearthstone being competitive is a jokePosted in: General DiscussionQuote from Raskolnikow92 >>If you compare hearthstone to Starcraft, counterstrike, dota or another classic esports game, you'll see that if you let a pro and a mediocre player play 10 rounds against each other, the hearthstone pro will win like (I guess) 8 games but still will lose 1 or 2. This is something that never happens in the latter games. It's a card game. If a pro poker player played a casual, he would win like 6 or 7 or of ten. It's the nature of card games. The competitiveness is over 100s of games, where the best players will win more than not. If you expect them to win at a 80 to 90 clip, then you need to start looking at games other than card games. This is probably the key to all of this:I'm thinking the folks who argue against the competitivness of the game is looking for the Starcraft standard: the concept where in every matchup the higher skilled player wins out. That IS a valid way of judgement. And in that this genre fails by design. Note Genre, not 'game' as the nature of a card game is to add elements you cannot control and that WILL mess you up no matter the skill level.Do note, though, that not everyone holds competitiveness to that style. Instead, games with an RNG factor, such as card games like MTG and HS, work in the realm of probabilities. That is, competitive players focus on improving their probability of success over the long term. They understand that there will be matches where you CANNOT win no matter what you do. Instead they focus on ensuring thatthey don't mess up games that they should win in, don't let the games they should lose in ruin them mentally, and push the odds just enough to 'steal' wins from games they normally would lose. This is why top players go gaga over having a 60% win rate against their peers. They spend hundreds of hours researching choices that net them just an additional 1% chance to win over other choices because, over multiple iterations it's that spread that determines the player that always seems to be 'unlucky' compared to the ones that are always 'lucky'.This is the nature of how competition works in games like this. It's ok to not care for it. I consider baseball Meh and have no desire to watch it. But that's a subjective opinion at this point, as is the opinions of the players and folks who watch these HS tournaments. You don't have to agree. But you can respect those who don't see things the way you do. -

Budda523 posted a message on Crafting advicePosted in: Standard FormatHey guys,
since the release of the Deathsknights I wanted to try playing Evolve Shaman. The problem is I have almost none of the cards, I play mostly Mage and Hunter.
I could disenchant a golden Malfurion the Pestilent, because I probably won't play druid in the near future and Prince Taldaram for 2000 dust. I could also disenchant 17 golden common, 11 golden rare and 1 golden epic cards, of which I already have 2 normal duplicates, worth another 2350 dust. At the moment I have only 490 dust.
That would be a total of 4840 dust.
To craft the tier 1 evolve shaman deck I would need 5980 dust, because I would need Thrall, Deathseer, Patches the Pirate and Aya Blackpaw....
Is it worth crafting the deck without Patches and/ or Aya?
Do you think I should spend the dust to optimize my Hunter and Mage decks? (The last two seasons I reached rank 9 with these and finished on rank 10)
Or should I save the dust for the next expansion? Thanks for your help and your opinions in advance!

Aether_lackey posted a message on Game etiquettePosted in: General DiscussionFull disclosure: I'm a salty player. I don't like losing one bit, I'm pretty sure I reached my potential in relation to the amount of effort I'm willing to put in learning hearthstone, so there is no "ok, what did I learn from this loss" going on anymore, instead there's a lot of "that ******* RNG roll decided the entire game". Not saying it is a impartial or correct analysis, but again, don't care if it isn't, I just want to get my quests done and hopefully have a bit of fun.
Digital games have serious restrictions when it comes to communication between players. Whilst during a IRL MTG game you can observe your opponents reactions and body language if not straight up talking to him, in hearthstone all you have is half a dozen of lines that should hold the same meaning regardless of what character you're playing, but often don't. Classic example would be the distinction between a sober "that was a mistake" and the infamous "Oops", but I digress. What I'm trying to get at is that you can't really tell if your opponent is taking the game lightly or if he's really frustrated about how things are turning out when playing a game of Hearthstone.
My MTG background taught me that when your opponent gets frustrated over a game it is common courtesy to not offer a handshake at the end of the match, because it would be forcing them to a position that requires them to either ignore you and look like a bigger a**hole or do it in a forced manner despite their frustration, regardless of if it has roots in RNG or difference of skill.
Instead, you should wait to see if your opponent has the sportsmanship of doing it spontaneously himself.
Assumed F.A.Q.
"Aren't you being too sensitive?" - Possibly, probably. But let me put it like this. You win a game against a guy, he doesn't seem happy about it, do you proceed to try starting a conversation with him as if nothing had happened or do you act sober and refrain from doing anything that could make it look like you're mocking him? I mean, if you're like the king of charism maybe, but in a digital game all your social skills aren't worth squat anyway.
"What goes trough your mind when a player "well plays" you?" - "I don't give a **** about what you think of how well I played" / "Prick" / "Well RNG'd, ***hole"
"What if he emoted first?" - Go ahead and do whatever you want to then. Personally if someone emotes too much I just start roping them.
"Can't you just squelch at the start of every match?" - Sometimes I forget.
TL;DR: Don't emote "well played" (or anything else really) when you're about to win the game unless the other player did it first. That is if you're at all concerned about trying to be generally nice to someone who didn't do anything to you.
PS: WHAT DO WE WANT? AUTO-SQUELCH! WHEN DO WE WANT IT? ON THE NEXT PATCH ALREADY!
PPS: Yes, I'm trying to be humorous about it, sorry if your taste in humour is too refined for little old me. #satlypride #krippsquad -

wacky1215 posted a message on Why nerf? Why not redo the base set?Posted in: General DiscussionSo, I'm sure this has come up in a lot of players minds before, especially if you've every played Magic. While I understand that nerfs to the immediate meta are necessary, why not just redo the base set annually? You can keep some cards in the HOF and Wild, but kick some base set cards down to Wild, and bring some more popular cards back up to Standard. Personally, I feel this would keep the game fresh. Now, the argument is, well that's why there's Wild in the first place. I understand. But for the current theme of "Screw Wild, Cause Standard" that Blizzard seems to be pushing, and the fact that their main reasoning for nerfing cards is because they're overpowered or overused, it would seem that rotating the cards in and out of standard would solve this issue. Not to mention, from a business perspective, more people would be inclined to purchase more "basic" packs with the "new" cards in them. I would think that it would be more fun for new players too. ...also with this, if you like the idea, which cards would you like to see rotated out, and which cards would you like to see back in standard?
