Alright so as an update I played a fair bit with this deck. I got from D10 to D5 fast at a 75% or so win rate. However, it then just took a turn for the worst and I lost most games since and down to a 58% win rate and looks like it is dropping. I won just one out of the last 10 games. The deck struggles significantly against priest. It's not favored vs DH at all in my opinion. The trouble is vs DH you must have skipper and armor smith and pirates to play to clear their board and gain armor. If you don't draw armorsmith you just lose. Also you lose against any other aggro deck if you don't draw armorsmith. If you don;t get ancharr early too you lose usually since you can't get skipper. The deck seems quite inconsistent to me. You can go on really lucky streaks with it and get good RNG and then other times you just lose. It's also quite easy to lose vs mage I think. They have tonnes of board clear/freezes. If they keep summoning two 6 cost minions they can get some really strong stuff like cairne which this deck just cannot deal with. They can also make your whole board go poof. Ideally of course you want to live until they get bombed but the mage knows this is the plan and so they go for a big mid range push usually and without drawing specific cards by turn 10 - 11 or so to deal with that, you're going to lose.

That being said, it can be quite a strong deck and does every well vs certain matchups. It's quite decent vs warlock. It's very good vs rogue (a matchup the poster did not deal with). I never lost to a secret rogue. Druid and mage are winnable. Hunter is a very good matchup. I didn't see many other warriors but I won vs the ones I did see. The problem though is the deck's relatively poor performance vs DH. Putting bombs in their deck seems like a luxury one cannot afford. Rather, we have to assemble combo pieces such as armor smith, skipper and sky raider asap so we can get out of lethal range.

posted a message on The whole demon hunter class need a rework

Demon hunter was just made strong as a selling point. It's obviously oppressive when it had to be nerfed twice. The problem is they buffed it massively at the same time through the nerf to sacrificial pact and that buff was more powerful than the nerfs. Keep in mind you could get sac pac from zephyr. It's so overpowered that even its absolute hard counters* struggle against it (compared to say a hard counter to face hunter which can win like 90 percent of the time). If a deck does not have a hard counter that crushes it then it can overtake the meta. Freeze mages were no fun but at least if they were too much of the ladder you play control warrior and enjoy near 100% win rate.

*a hard counter being a deck designed to beat one specific deck regardless of its matchup against other decks.

It's also really bad for the game to have a deck so strong with no hard counter because bad players can just use it for the legend climb and then you get stuck with the entire D1 - D5 being DH heavy.

Agreed. In statistics, sample size is hugely important. Until you have a large enough sample the data might be outright lying to you.  Save all your conclusions until you collect sufficient data.

The trouble of course is that the sample size required is far higher than anyone would expect. I understand there are services which provides large samples if everyone plays that one list but it doesn't assist for a new deck.

I only played one game with this deck so far but I just wanted to say it was hilarious sweet demon hunter tears. He ended up just conceding. I have NEVER seen a DH concede under any circumstances before. Much fun to be had:)

Edit: it was also good vs hunter. I am not sure though how this is even vs priest. Priest can just set up a wall of heal taunts and you just lose. There is nothing you can do.

It also cannot possibly be 100 percent vs DH because you lose if you don't draw armorsmith.

posted a message on The trouble with deck building, guides, win percentages and matchups

There is a big problem with deck building on this site. The most obvious is win percentages over small samples. For example, if I make 100 of my own decks in a year I am bound to soon or later get on a win streak with one of them. I then post it saying it has a 60 or 70% win rate and people jump on board. Let's put that to one side. There is another problem.

A significant issue is the guides indicating a matchup is favoured when it really is not. A matchup can be favoured when climbing but not at say high legend. Imagine if, for example, a particular deck was very hard to pilot. It may give the impression that when climbing your deck is favoured vs this hard to pilot deck. However, if that hard to pilot deck was in the hands of a high legend player it may be favoured vs your deck and that comes down to skill. Where this leads into small samples though is that maybe over a small sample you have a good run against DH/bad DH players and then you think your deck is good vs them when it isn't really. Other people then try and get different results. Possibly they pilot the deck differently or are more skilled or less skilled. You will often find comments of people having success with a particular deck but if enough people try it statistically some people are going to go on a winning streak with it. The people who do not may believe it's their fault for not piloting the deck correctly.

All in all, just be careful with bias in your guides and your deck building. I built a deck recently that I thought was good vs DH since I won three initial games with it until then I lost the next 10 vs DH and realized the deck is actually trash against it and so I didn't post it since it would be awful in the meta.

I don't get DH decks. I tried it for the quest (after the second nerf) since I have just come back to the game but when I play I just get bad draws. Whenever I am against DH they go battlefiend into raging felscreamer into priestess almost every time (which is basically unbeatable because even with a deck which can deal with this the second priestess is not far behind) but whenever I have played this deck I don't even draw battlefiend lol. Must be for the lucky people. That being said even though I get bad draws with this deck, it's so oppressive that basically any deck which isn't tier one may as well not be played since this deck just beats any home made deck and it also beats the meta decks more often than not.

posted a message on Spell Damage Shaman (73% WR)

This is a really fun deck and I like it and got a good win rate with it but I am not sure how this beats any competent gala warlock who realises they are going to be bursted. In order to beat them I think you would need to surprise them with burst in the end game and ideally draw lady early. However, their healing is high. The list still usually runs sac pac even though it's only for healing now and so they can keep themselves at high health + gala armour. I am sure it would be fine vs inexperienced players though.

Warrior with armorsmith is an impossible matchup and probably if being efficient in climbing an auto-concede. The rest of the matchups seem good. I am not sure though if you actually beat a res priest that's played well. The idea of playing lady and then drawing into 0 cost spells (which statistically wouldn't happen very often) and the idea of somehow surviving until you have all combo pieces in your hand is too remote to actually beat priest.

If res priest and gala warlock are played at their best I am not sure how you win (of course not all of the ladder is playing perfectly). I beat a spell druid since I drew two earthquakes, lightning storm and hagatha but if you don't draw into both earthquakes you probably are losing.

The deck also auto loses vs any hunter I think. There may not be many of those. The only way maybe to win is if you roll taunt totems. The deck is too slow to beat facehunter. It also just loses to any DH that gets any kind of decent curve. Then again that deck is so oppressive that multiple nerfs have done very little. All in all while you might have 73% win rate with it over a small sample, the spell shaman archetype that goes for the one shot in a turn is usually a trash tier deck.

This deck is definitely not top tier. It can win vs priest though because of the infectious sporeling. The thing with this deck is that it can get out huge boards an opponent cannot deal with but if you get a slow start you just die. It's not very good vs heavy control decks and often it's too slow compared to face decks unless you get out a big board (but then you may be forced to trade or die anyway on turn 5 or 6 because coining out a dormant minion can result in you having no early game presence and could be dead on turn 3 or 4).

Can this deck even lose to control warlock? It seems like a stone lock like control warrior vs freeze mage which is 90% or so for the warrior.

Yea the damage package isn't working. You just auto lose vs DH. I think the poster just got lucky. I have won against some DH sometimes but if they draw any kind of decent curve you just lose and there is nothing you can do outside some sort of god draw where you draw all your taunts and magic carpet and don't draw flame imps.

posted a message on [Legend] 80% Win Rate Secret Tempo Rogue (with guide)

I took out 2x Umbral for the stealth 1 mana 3/1 for more early game board presence. Some people use faceless corrupter but it's conditional on already having a lackey. My problem with Umbral was that the deck has too much draw and a lot of conditional cards and so there is often no room in the hand for coins and it becomes a bit of a dead card. I would only run one if I was going to run one (which you updated).

posted a message on [Legend] Lorewalker Cho 60+ Win Rate Making Mummies Libram Paladin?!?

It looks like a fun deck and it is fun when it works. I tried it since I got lorewalker cho from a pack (I had it years ago but dusted it). I caution anyone though to only play it if they don't care about losing rank. So play it when you hit a point where you can't lose rank (say if you get to Diamond 10 etc). This is because the deck is too hard to play and in my experience you just lose by like turn 5 or 6 because the deck's early game is too weak and the clear isn't strong enough.

Anyway 0% win rate with this deck but fun though. I might play until I win a game. I am not even a bad player. I mean I have 60% win rates with my decks typically and with secret rogue closer to 70% but I find this deck just can't really beat a lot of the meta or at least I can't win with it. It can't beat priest for sure (soul mirror and the two silences), it can't beat rogue if rogue doesn't make huge mistakes. Its board clear doesn't work against spell druid due to the treants. If the opponent is good at keeping tempo and killing your stuff you probably also can't use cult master which means you can't draw into Aldor or your board clears so easily.

The deck might be fun but good luck winning games with it (and it isn't that fun if you have to take 5 losses before you have a game where your cho is live). If anyone wins a single game with this deck who isn't the person who posted it, please share how it happened.
