posted a message on PlayRavnica: Three free packs for MtG Arena!!!
    Quote from Cody1358 >>

Not all heroes wear capes. But seriously, where did you find this out? I wonder if there’s a code for each set...

MTGArena is so polished already, I can’t imagine it won’t become my most played game. But has anyone heard how they’re going to handle rotation? I am assuming when standard rotation comes out, those cards will be still be playable in a yet to be implemented extended format.

They dogded the first rotation with the wipe (in closed, you had access to sets up to kaladesh). They are planning on extending the modes, and including Modern - the only question is, whetever all Modern sets will be included or not.

PlayRavnica was a non-unique code found in real Magic boosters - so I doubt that there are other codes out there (I haven't seen any anyway). I think there were some goodies if you had attended a prerelease for Dominaria, though. Don't know, and it may be the same as the current prerelease - unique codes.

posted a message on Eternal Card Game - Come try it out!

Is there a thread where referal links are listed? Otherwise:
    https://www.direwolfdigital.com/eternal/register/?ref=b8bcb8bd-941f-469f-87c6-1370733913d3
    thats my link XD

Regarding Eternal, it is quite fun, I have to admit. Have been playing that game practically non stop for about 5 days now. I personally liked it far more than MTGA (and thats coming from some guy who had been playing Magic for years some time back, attendings about 5 prereleases and some drafts) - the foremost reason being the economy, I suppose. While I have a hard time in MTGA to attend events, it is quite easy in Eternal - since the Events are actually rewarding!

Take the League Reunion. It costs 12,5k to enter (a booster costs 1k), and gives you, in total at the end of the month, at the very least 18 booster! thats 18k value for 12,5k at the very least - and it is practially a sealed (you get a specific amount of packs you open, and you need to build your deck using these cards).

If you have experience with MTG, it is pretty easy to pick up. Did go 7-1 in my first Draft (ends at 7 wins or 3 losses), giving me ~1k + 3 packs + cards I opened surplus (event costs 5k, with 7 wins you get around 6k gold, ...). The best part - there is a AI focused part. So if you want to simply roll out a new deck, if you aren't able to respond instantly because you are doing something else in between (or waiting for something), you can simply leave the game open - the Gauntlets and Forge have no time limit.

Ranged and Casual are pretty rewarding as well. The only gripe I would have, would be, that legendaries are both extremly hard to get and partly so overpowered, that they can break the game. Still fun as hell, though :D

posted a message on Magic: The Gathering Arena Open Beta soon! Anyone hyped?

I am not saying that HS is generous, though. Shadowverse is, for example. I am also not saying that MTGA is an extremly terrible economy (there are others saying that, though) but for me personally, it is bad. Simply, because I like to play in events, and this is nigh impossible to sustain in MTGA, due to the rewards being focused on cards.

How long have you been playing MTGA? Have you beein in the closed Beta, having played the game for half a year like I did? If not, you can't truly jugde the economy, to be honest.
The beginning, while feeling somewhat sluggish, is great until about the time the NPE rewards end. It still is fine, though, since next to every pack you open yields some playable cards.
That will change, the more you have of the set. There are a lot, truly a lot, cards in a set - imagine to play Arena consisitng out of a single set. Thats what Draft is essentially, and it still offers great depth - mostly due to the amount of cards and combination. Sure, there are only 5 colours (and some multicolour) compared to the classes in HS, but there still are more cards in comparison. And while a lot of cards in HS can be used, MTG has a tendency to print strictly better cards, or cards that are only used in limited enviroment.

In the end you get a booster with one non-duplicate card, the rest going to the 'vault', arguable the worst system in place for duplicates (return wise). At this point, you are missing a few cards, but need to open x amount of boosters to either get these cards or get the WC to spend them. Not beeing able to dust your usless extra, non meta cards is also a harder blow than you would think - that coming from me who has never really dusted non-extra cards in HS!

Oh well. There are some bad decisions have been made by WotC, and the thread I linked should be the finest example. I wouldn't put my trust into MTGA, I still have the feeling that it may end into some kind of stillborn like Duels did. Though I may be a tad negative after loitering in the Beta Forum, getting to know the endless whinery that is so inherent of these, but also noticing some well thought-out posts perteining some truth (just gotta mention no Friendlist - since how long? They finally migrated the Accounts, which should enable Friendlists - but they did not exploit on this, and there is still no ETA for such a qualitative feature)

The new player experience is definitely a work in progress,

Let your voice be heard and give input to them on changes while its in beta.

     You mean.... like this?
    https://mtgarena.community.gl/forums/threads/37837
It is the thread with most posts, not counting threads of closed beta.

The answer currently? the feedback will be 'brought to attention of the developers'. And you really expect something to change? Or rather, that a single person is capable of changing the game? Rather, it appears that you need to gather half of all players in order to even get a reply.

posted a message on MTG Arena Review

Heh, it is funny to see how the distinction is.

Everyone who starts MTGA says that it is generous, that it feels to be in a good place, that the economy is good and all.

And then you have the Closed Beta Tester. They knew that you used to get 10 instead of 5 decks as a questroute (though the duration was far longer). The biggest problem: The colours are kinda randomized. It seems there are about 4 possibilities. Some decks are far weaker (WB) than others (GB), as well as containing premium cards or merely useless stuff.

For you can't dust in MTGA. And about 50% of the cards are fillers, something you probably won't play anymore after aquiring better cards. After all, why play a 3BB Sorcery that kills a creatue and gives 3 life if there is a 2BB instant that exiles a creature or planeswalker and gives 2 life? For most cards, there are simply better alternatives, and getting these can be extremly tedious.

No Friendlist. No friendly challenges to begin with. You need to pay for events, and most events need gems - which can be gained only by either purchasing or getting as reward when playing Quick Draft. And the price structure is geared towards cards, so some events are extremly hard to achieve as a f2p player.

And don't forget, that the amount of cards is vastly greater than in HS. Some decks tend to be oppressive as well, even if you have all these possibilities. And the few events which could offer a reprive require gold to enter.

Now, don't get me wrong. MTGA is still a good game. But it has its problems, and these should not be ignored either.

posted a message on Magic: The Gathering Arena Open Beta soon! Anyone hyped?

Generous? MTGA is? Uhm, nah. Well, really depends I guess.

I have not invested any money in, and I really like limited (as in, Drafts and Sealed). Due to the fact that thre are no phantom Drafts/Sealed, the return is abyssmal. Like, you can get up to 1250 - 1500 if you get 15 wins and complete your quest. A Draft costs 5k, meaning, that you need about 4 days to do one. So the rewards for a Draft really depend, but you get around 300 gems on average I assume, maybe if you are good about 400. A sealed costs 2k gems, so, I get to play one after around 5 drafts, which are about 20 days (somewhat lower, but still).

The sealed rotates in around 3 weeks, so I am cutting it close to even getting to play one Guild Sealed. So, for people like me who don't really care for constructed, MTGA has a terrible prize structure.

Now, also mind that events, barring the exception that was this free singleton, are always costing gold (most times 500). So, the few things I would like to actually partake in (as in, getting away from the normal games), give me a negative revenue (since they changed their price structure, making it so that it is inclined to give cards instead of gold)
As you can see, if you want to play constructed - sure, it is alright (I did get quite a lot in closed Beta after all), but if you are someone who likes to play events - since game isn't that forgiving in that case.

As a comparison: In HS I never really had trouble to enter Arena. After not really playing some weeks and months, just doing some dailies once in a while, I collected around 5k gold. That would give me surely over 50 Arena runs! In MTGA, I had in the end (because I was kinda tired of the Draft options) around 2k gems (yep, exactly what is needed to enter the new sealed event) and around 10k Gold. Thats, uh, around 7-8 Drafts I guess.

Also, the problem with duplicates. The return currently is really abyssmal. Getting a few wildcards after getting sooo many duplicates, the system is by far worse than HS (so, the greater your collection, the worse it actually becomes, especially if you are drafting the same sets over).

Well, I may have sounded quite negative, but MTGA isn't that bad of a game - just even greedier than Blizzard. You think the deck rewards are generous? Did you know that it used to be 10 and was changed to 5 (assuming the patchnotes don't lie), as well as the fact that the decks may be okay if you start out, but are totally wasted against high tiered decks. Sure, they have some premium cards, but most of it becomes obsolete over time and you can't dust these cards either...
All in all, though, it is a nice game with a lot of cards, and thus, possibilites.

posted a message on Bug Book of Specters + Seaforium Bomber

    It works as intended.

There were already previously cases with scrolls created by deck of wonders being drawn with book of specters and resolving. That is, because the discard effect triggers after you draw them, while the cast and draw triggers as soon as you draw it. So it gets casted, and can't be discarded (since it is no longer in your hand), while it had the effect of drawing a card - so you drew a card not through Book of Spectres, and therefor it is not subjected to the discard effect.

Tuskar has quite solid stats and they may push, at one point, spell-damage based decks. Sure, there are two other two-drops with Spelldamage, and another one if you are playing mage, but... you never know :P The dust gained through that is abyssmal anyway

posted a message on Six Card Nerfs Coming - Naga Sea Witch, Spiteful Summoner, and More!

Though the most reasonable change that many had wanted was to make the charge a part of the discard battlecry. No impact for zoo (not counting Gul'Dan, since at this point you shouldn't really need the face damage), while allowing cards to cheat out demons. Doomguard limits those currently....

Rin isn't powerful. Most of the times, if you try to summon the demon, you end up loosing too much tempo. It really only becomes good in a top-deck mode, or close to, and that wasn't the case for either of you. Honestly, you could have just ignored Rin and gain board.

If there was one card that should be banned - it would the the Lich King. That guy not only has a huge taunting body, but the random cards he generates can singlehandely turn the tides. Then again, most of his occurences is by discovering him with Stone Hill....

All in all, I can only say 'buckets'. Some drafts, I get the exact same three cards offered, from which I mostly pick the same (like Steed. Just too insane value that one). On the other hand, some cards aren't offered enough - Silence effects are rare in between, weapon destroyer vary greatly but is in average around 1. In a meta infested with Silver Swords, Vine Cleavers, truesilver Champions and similar strong weapons (especially the first one), I would really pick around 2 Oozes if offered.

So, yeah, there doesn't need a 'cap' on the maximal amount of the same cards, but a change regarding the buckets (enlarging them, so that you don't see the same 5 cards several times), as well as reduce the OP buckets occurence a bit (which seem to be currently in focus - again)

Yes, as an responsible adult I always try to give these little fellows a chance - Shadow Madness or the friendly Cabal Shadow Priest are often used to counsel these poor fellows. Of yourse, the counciling could begin earlier with an Potion of Madness, but sadly did I loose my last contacts supplying them to me.

That said, the sad truth of them being martyrers still persist. Even when I try everything in my power to enable them a glorious future, my opponent has often quite different plans...

posted a message on Too many Ayas?

When I played against that boss, he seemed to glitch:
I had a Sonya and an aya out. He attacked the aya, returning me a 1/1 copy. I play it, and the next turn he attacked the aya (only a 1/1) again. He did that for 5 rounds straight, until he somehow got his hands on a mass removal (well, the Blade Flurry shouldn't have come as a surprise). Still, it boosted my jade up to ~20/20, which killed him fast enough.
