    Quote from GoldExperience >>

I wish I could start saving gold to the next adventure, but I'm still missing a lot of cards such as Shield Slam, Gorehowl, Ice Block, Alexstrasza, Edwin VanCleef and Leeroy Jenkins, so I am opening lots of Classic Packs hoping I find them or save enough dust to craft them.

I'm in the same boat, I'm still missing so many epic classic cards, plus legendaries. So it makes it hard to try and save coins over buying classic packs. Way better to just spend the money buying the next adventure most probably

So this matchup is very common, and one that I feel I am unfavored (apart from when I run miracle rouge).

I have been using warrior variations (dragon, midrange pirate) and paladin variations (murloc OTK and midrange pally).

I usually go for the trades, trading to get rid of their beasts and trying to keep board contro. But trading almost feels like it is in their favour. they can use cheap spells to remove minions, whilst putting down sticky minions like infested wolf and highmane. Then they follow up with insane burst and the 8 mana call of the doctor.

Is it right to trade for their highmane and other minions? Should I be more aggressive in my approach to the matchup? Is it usually just a case of 'if they get their doctor 8 off it's basically GG'?

If there are any guides on this matchup please let me know. Cheers

In card games a critical thing to know is whether you are the aggressor or the defender in the game.  The defender's goal is t odrag the game out because they know if the game stalls, they win.  The aggressor wants to push ahead because they know if it turns into a face race THEY will win.  In every game, one person will be the aggressor, one defender, even if it's aggro vs aggro or control vs control, and it's not always obvious.
If you're playing aggro decks then it's VERY much the case of Kill em fast.  You are the aggressor.  Midrange has a weaker start so they can't beat you in a face race but they WILL win a drag out race.  Thus you do NOT want to game to drag out. You don't want them to think about setting up.  You want them defending you and not quite stopping you from their face.
Tempo is the same but since they are slower than aggro, they suffer to midrange.  You can't take advantage of your slowe cards since you can't compete with midrange if the game drags out.  So you need to push HARD and hope you don't pull your late game, or hope you disrupt them so badly that they end up with a weak midgame.
Midrange, equal standing.  They have their turn 8 but you have your.. whatever turn you have.  The faster your deck the better though.
Control. well, Midrange is made to beat control well so you're in trouble.  However you are teh defender, so draging the game is your thing.  Just protect yourself so that they can't chpi you down enouogh to kill you with their midgame burst, drag the game and if you can drain them of power you win.  Wont' be easy.
So what you do depends on your deck. Play to your deck, know your win condition and know how it deals with theirs.
Well summed up. It is so important to identify (based on the game situation you are in) if you are the aggressor or defender, and to know when to switch. The midrange hunter can make this decision more complicated. For instance, I was midrange pirate hunter, I was putting pressure on the hunter, got him to 8 health with my cairne (not trading into his highmane). The next turn he cleared my newly placed minions (apart from cairne) and went face to put me down to 11 health (he also had a weapon).
On my turn I was 2 damage off lethal, so instead of going face again i cleared one of his minions and also set up lethal of my own.
His turn he called doctor 8, and won. (I actually could have won that game just by armouring up to 13 life but instead I dropped another minion lol, at the time I didn't even realise he was coming into turn 8)

Good comments. The matchup really seems to be decided in the first 10 turns, or even by turn 8 for that matter. Kill them before they kill you so to speak.

I'll play to put more pressure on them, see how it goes

They are all currently playing the Worgen OTK deck because it is a very hard deck to master + at the moment it is getting good results.

Of course it is not going to last, leave them play a deck that requires skill. A lot of deck's they have already mastered

Yeah I always try to play around houndmaster, But i think that puts me in a worse position. I could try switch tactic and play it alot more aggressive (unless houndmaster would completely wreck me).

I never thought about spell breaker, but that is true. The server and rank I am playing now is filled with hunter, running that could actually be a good idea. Thanks mate for the tips

posted a message on What's your opinion on otk decks?
    Quote from shrvaaan >>

Personally I feel otk decks such as worgen warrior, malygos rogue, freeze mage etc. are the most cancerous decks period. Even worse than face decks. At least with aggro decks you can gain control with taunts, board clears etc. But these otk decks are just draw draw and more draw.It doesn't matter what you are playing. Playing aggro works sometimes but they usually keep control with removals and stalls. Everytime I see these decks I just feel like autoconceding but play anyways only to be proven right in the first place. Hopefully with emperor thaurissan leaving with the next expansion things will be better. Your thoughts guys and gals??

Are you off your chops mate ??? OTK more cancerous than aggro brain dead decks.
Every deck in hearthstone requires some level of skill, if you don't have much skill it's still ok, you will just be playing in the same ranks as this guy. OTK decks that currently exist in Hearthstone are completely FINE. Heres why:
    1. They are hard to play. On the opposing end of an OTK you may feel like that opponent basically just waited until their combo pieces arrived, but of course it's not like that. There are many micro decisions made throughout the turns to get to that late stage of the game, micro decisions that directly affect your percentage of chance to win the game. There are ALOT of decks in hearthstone that are basically self guided. You just drop minions on curve and pressure the opponent. It might feel like games verse secret paladin, dragon warrior, and aggro shaman are 'more interactive' but for fuck sake if hearthstone was only about those kind of decks, it would not be as fun as it is.
Any one with half an eye and 2 fingers can take aggro shaman to rank 5.
    2. OTK decks can be countered. If a meta turns into a specific OTK deck being over played - the counter decks will pop up just as fast. However, most OTK decks do not require a counter simply because they are not so powerful that every man and his dick are playing them.
It's going to be sad to see the great Emperor leave Standard mode, that single card has allowed so many different decks to be viable.
Please go get yourself a tissue and enjoy your face vs face matchups that it seems you like so much.
And also, if OTK really has rubbed you up the wrong way, do something about it. Learn about the OTK decks and see what you need to do to counter them. Usually it will just be specific decisions you make during the game that will put them in a worse position. Whether that be holding onto specific cards for the right time, or pressuring them too much, or what ever. Where there is a will there is a way.

So this season I'm still just sitting around rank 5 trying out different decks, mid range pally, murlock OTK pally, warrior etc etc. not being able to rank up but learning the decks I guess.

and now for twice this season, switching to miracle rouge gets my to rank 4 without a loss...

Hey, I've just noticed a pattern is all. When people greet, turns out they have a very good opening hand, I'd say 90% of the time. And to be frank, I hold a very low opinion of the very character of people who will bring FACE SHAMAN into casual mode, where I spend most of my time. Because guess what happens, on average, when I beat one of these players: after getting roped a few turns, "your opponent left."

why would you spend most of your time in casual mode?
