iandakar posted a message on Introducing Player Card TradesPosted in: General DiscussionYou obviously never played Diablo 3 in the RMAH era. The Chinese secondary market fully supports 'trades'.
So your concern is Chinese firms hoarding legendaries to sell to players for real money? That does sound like it’d be an issue... But if Blizzard is still getting its cut from the Chinese companies opening packs to get the legendaries, wouldn’t that still work out?
they won't open packs. The problem is that dusting and crafting exist.
A new account gets more than enough free cards and starting quest rewards to craft a couple of legendaries. Right now this is a good thing as it guarantees that a new player can, with enough research (as any F2Per should be doing) get a good strong deck right from the get go and help establish them into the game.
Introduce trading and that quickly turns into doom. A person can, with those features, create a new account, run it through the basic quests, get a few key cards you are aiming to hoard, then sell them on the market. This can then be automated and, thus, you can develop multiple bots to farm cards quickly and easily and flood the market with cards. The market then tanks, making all cards worthless to sell while the servers get packed full of fake accounts.
This is not a hypothetical doomsday situation. This is exactly what happens on most MMOs. It's what's happening in Fallout 76 as well by how I hear (though that has other issues making the situation, not be worse but get worse faster.
You don't hear this in card games because they always adopt one of three models: the TCG, the CCG, or the LCG. This is a CCG, a Collecting Card Game. No Trading, but instead you have a mechanic to obtaining whatever cards you want. Games like MTG (offline) and Artifact are TCGs. No crafting but a Trading system. The third is a Life Card Game where you get all of the cards right away, no collecting in any way.
Basically they solve it by not combining a trading system with a system to collect cards for free.
Then there's the fact that it's a massive programming project that involves player cash and the card economy. All it takes is one bug, one slip up unfound, to have a nightmare of scammed players, lots cards, lost money, and angry customers seeking lawsuits.
So we're not talking 'possible issues'. We're talking a guaranteed extremely difficult issue that they are already well aware of (thanks to WoW), the potential of a scandal that will permanently scar the community, and for a system that offers little profit, won't help most of the community (if you think you can just pass off that Millhouse and some random epics for a zilliax you are in for a surprise), and has already been proven a failure that nearly destroyed the Diablo brand.
In short: if you want trading, you want a Trading Card game, like Artifact. If you want HS style card crafting along with trading, and you DON'T have a history of the nightmares MMO styled games had, and you weren't really willing to read the above, then ..just trust me.
No.

Kla_guy posted a message on Open packs or craft specific common and rare cards?Posted in: Standard FormatThanks guys,Except that I don't miss just one card, I miss like a bunch of them. For example, I kinda want to craft Midrange Hunter decks and I miss:2xJewelled Macaw1xCrackling Razormaw1xScavenging Hyena1xKnife Juggler2xSavanagh HighmaneThose are like 4 commons and 3 rares for a deck, not including epic: Rat Packs that I don't have. I heard this is only tier 2 or 3 now in the ladder too, so should I commit dust to craft all those to play this deck? Or wait from open packs?Assuming you're fairly new to the game, I think I've been where you are now. And, while all the advice given here is sound, it might be worth considering another factor. That is: do you already have some competitive deck, or this would be your first? If you already have some other good deck, I'd say exercise patience, and be conservative with your dust. But if this MR hunter is going to be your first serious deck, it might be worth to invest in the cards (just this once). Even if it's not tier 1, it can bring you to some decent-ish rank, say 10-5, or maybe even further (if you can pilot it well). And with the rewards you'll get season after season you'll have more cards / dust to manage as you please. That's exactly what I did, BTW with hunter, too, and must say I have no regrets. One last bit of advice: since there are many lists out there, if you do commit try to find a list that, while strong, minimizes the cards you have to craft right away. Some others you could wait to craft say next month, after1) you have more experience with the deck, have decided whether you like it or not, and have a better understanding of those extra cards' importance2) you'll have cashed in an (hopefully) nice reward, and you'll have opened some more packs ;)As for cards to craft right now, and those which can wait a bit, IMHO Savannah Highmane, Scavenging Hyena and Crackling Razormaw are fundamental. Jeweled Macaw is nice to have for sure, and most lists run 2, but some only run 1, so you could try the same, specially if you already have other good 1-drops like Alleycat & Fiery Bat. Maybe try 1x Timber Wolf instead of the 2nd Macaw? EDIT: or Fire Fly.Rat Pack is powerful indeed but you could consider temporarily replacing it with other cards you already have, perhaps Infested Wolf or Vicious Fledgling?Lastly, Knife Juggler is OK but you can definitely do without him. Not only now, but in the future as well. Maybe a Dire Wolf Alpha in his stead, if you don't run it already? -

Ophion-EU posted a message on Open packs or craft specific common and rare cards?Posted in: Standard FormatIt depends a lot on how much you play and what set you want cards from. I would not recommend crafting Classic cards since you will definitely draw those given enough time, but if they're core to a deck you really want to play, go for it. I've opened hundreds of Classic packs, but until last week I didn't have a second Frothing Berserker ^^
For other sets it's a bit more tricky. Crafting these cards is worse because they will eventually rotate, and chances are that those cards aren't as good in Wild. On the other hand crafting may be your only chance to get the cards, especially if you are F2P and don't play a ton of Arena (or do well there). If your goal is to get a big collection I would avoid crafting since it's really inefficient, but if you don't think you'll want to play more than a few decks at a time, do the craft.

TwentyOneBeers posted a message on Open packs or craft specific common and rare cards?Posted in: Standard FormatIf you need rares craft them, i started after BRM went live and up to this day i never opened a Knife Juggler or a Secretkeeper. But only craft the most OP ones :)
e.g. Savannah Highmane yes, Stampeding Kodo no.
Also i usually find that instead of crafting a cool but niche legendary you are much better with crafting two pairs of really good epics.

M0byFish posted a message on Open packs or craft specific common and rare cards?Posted in: Standard FormatI've been playing for over a year now, and there are still a few common and rare cards that elude me in the classic set. Like, I've opened a number of legendaries (including duplicates of Gruul and Cenarius) before I opened my first Noble Sacrifice (and I still don't have a second one).
So waiting for a specific common or rare can take a while. And, in the off chance that you craft a common/rare, and then open it in your very next pack, you are only out 35/80 dust (as opposed to 300/1200 for epics/legendaries). That's not a prohibitive amount of dust, and can be recouped relatively quickly.
If you are missing a key common or rare, I say go ahead and craft it.

Yeah, if everything scares you, just do your dalies, get in get out, once you get more cards and new expansion, when everything is fresh, come back into the game fullswing.

Yeah, I'm F2P, and the decks that I can build for fun typically lose to super aggro deck. It is when I see so many of the same Hero power click buttons many times that it annoys me, if they play cards for aggro, it would not make me that mad since they still have to RNG to get that card in their hand, but every turn hero power click is un-card-game like.
I don't intend to replaces Level Up and Vilespine, just thinking of anything that I can still put in that that still make the deck viable, unless you are saying without those cards, no matter what I put in, the % win rate will be <50% nevertheless.
Thanks man, I haven't thought of Frostwolf and Vicious bird, those can work.
Thanks, I checked that out, I don't have Stargazer Luna, Cinderstorm, and Pyromaniac. Without a card draw machine like Luna, can the deck still winable?

No, this thread is not 8 months old, this month is December, don't go anywhere :P.
Why Baku now? Because I have a pity timer legendary on Witchwood packs, so I opened the last few try to get something and voila.
Story is, I absolutely detest Baku Deck, I can write an essay about how broken it is and it probally got me an A+ in English literature, PHD level. My winrate against Baku deck is only like 10% or less, to the point that I have a strong feeling of pressing Concede right after seeing the animation.
But now, I own the card, suddenly, all the powerful images (of how I have been destroyed) come to me, I feel like the Force is with me. Now I understand the lure of the dark side, feeling so tempting to join the Baku team.
So if I join the darkside, I look up the dark matters and I have a few questions:
For odd Paladin, I don't have Level Up and Corridor Cripper, what cards can I use to replace these 4 epics?
For odd Rogue, I don't have Vilepine Slayer, what cards can I use instead?
Odd warrior and odd mage, I lack so many cards so I won't even ask.

Since I'm a F2P, I'm at the merci of Blizzard to RNG opening the legendary each expansions, and I have a vague feeling of what Blizzard told me what class I belong to year after year:
Now I just need Zuljin to complete my turn 4 to turn 10 :D
And this is another clear sign from Blizzard about which archtype suits me:
Any signs like these for you guys?

Before KFT, I really want to get Warlock DK and Lich King cause I like demons a lot and Lich King is like the new Dr Boom. I opened 10 packs and only get Bolvar, then my free DK is Rexxar, which I don't have enough strong hunter cards to really support Control Hunter. Bolvar seems hard as well since I don't have Tirion or SpikeSteed to support, I do have Wickerflame so maybe I could do something.
On the other hand my wife account, which has limited cards since we only kept it so she can play with me sometime. Her free DK is Thrall, and she already has EVOLVE, while I don't, so she could actually play Evolve shaman. And then in her 10 packs opening, she got: BLOODREAVER GULDAN on her 3rd pack, I was jealous, on her 9th pack, the glowing lengendary apeared, I was jealous again, then I heard GOLDEN LEGENDARY and saw THE LICH KING! I was speechless!
PS: she also get Ultimate Infestation too!
