Totally get what you’re saying if it’s in respect to Kingsbane Rogue. The problem with that argument is that anyone who played Kingsbane Rogue was morally bankrupt and is getting what they deserve!

Balance is more important to Blizzard's long-term earnings than dust refunds are detrimental.

FrostyDog247428 posted a message on Nerfs - The dust refund policy must be changed as it's not fair anymorePosted in: General DiscussionThe problem with refunds is where do you stop. Should they also refund Captain Greenskin? What about Grumble which was only playable in combo Shudderwock decks? I crafted Grumble so according to this logic I should get 1600 dust. No matter what they do they will piss off some people, that's with every nerf and balance change.

Xynot posted a message on Nerfs - The dust refund policy must be changed as it's not fair anymorePosted in: General DiscussionThis thread is poppycock. They nerfed a card that makes my deck less powerful so I should get dust? Nope. Where does it end? They print a new card that makes your deck have a bad matchup and become tier 2 - do you get dust, nope. Cards cycle out and your deck is only good in wild, do you get dust, nope. You had your day in the sun, all thing end, time to move on.

xriffa posted a message on Nerfs - The dust refund policy must be changed as it's not fair anymorePosted in: General DiscussionWhat do you want refunded, decks that been around for few expansions with barely anything fresh added to them? Odd paladin with literally zero new cards or druid with classic cards? Hearthstone team comes up with actually great nerfs but people like you still find something to complain about. Ask for refund for your brain instead because you got scammed hard, it is not working good at all.

Did anybody bother actually reading the OP?
The OP IS NOT bitching about the nerfs. BUT about refund policy.
They are OBVIOUSLY nerfing current Kingsbane decks to oblivion, which is a good thing, and nobody here disagreed about the nerf.
But they are giving 80 dust refund instead of 1600.
Btw, Shudderwock is in a pretty similar situation.
How is that fair?
Because Leeching Poison is the card that's being changed, not Kingsbane.
What isn't fair, is expecting to get compensation for a card that isn't changed at all.

Allthebees posted a message on What makes for good gameplay?Posted in: General DiscussionWhen I used to play Hearthstone more regularly, it was the same problem, but completely different decks - and this never changed - I absolutely hated playing against C'thun Druid or before that Mech Mage or before even that Miracle Rogue.
Mysterious Challenger paladin is another great example, whilst was awful for the meta and therefore super boring, it was a super crazy concept - paladin secrets had never been played so much before.
There is no commonality between these decks though. - one is midrange, one is aggro and miracle is...miracle and MC Paladin was super unique. The problem was that I disliked wasting time doing something repetitive - I like variety in my meta, and not the rock paper scissors system Hearthstone has become (and largely was at the beginning).
The problem is not the Odd Paladin deck, but the fact that you see it so consistently - which makes it dull to play against as it's repetitive to face the same strategy. The real problem is the oppressive underlying mechanics built into hearthstone's design structure.

Billie_Lurk posted a message on Will you buy the Rastakhan pre-order?Posted in: General DiscussionNo. I think it's time to stop supporting bad card design. For all the talk about the hero portrait just being a bonus and cosmetic, it sure is front and center of all the preorder promotional material and the main thing people who are interested in preordering talk about. The people in this community need to quit trying to downplay it's role in pushing preorders and how Blizzard is taking advantage of it's community by setting the precedent of these types of thing never being available again. It's not just an ego boost or a cosmetic. It's a limited time in game item that is taking advantage of it's community. It's inflating preorders and giving Blizzard the numbers to say "see look, everything is fine", but everything is not fine with this game. It's unfortunate but true.
If it was a permanent in game shop item that was five bucks or something you could make an argument against me. Right now it's just content Blizzard is holding hostage for the asking price of a full game and that is disgusting practice in my opinion.

Playing Big Mage against Secret Mage. I'm about to stabilize although I made a huge misplay the previous turn!! (Tried to play Jaina, but missclicked and played Alana instead!)
He gets a Deck of Wonders out of Primordial Glyph and procs it immediately on the following turn casting a Psionic Probe (copy a spell from your opponent's deck and add it to your hand) which of course pulls a Pyroblast for lethal...
Kaladin often screams for a normal gaming experience and I would like to fucking have one too!!
Ps. And the piece of cockdirt ends it with a hearthy "Hello." I would love to give him a manicure. With sharp objects entering beneath his fingernails!

Yup ladies and gentlemen I'm fucking Mega Salty now.
Thought I'd make a Rin Deck. Like a genuine Rin Deck where she is the only win condition. 1x Sanguine Raveler there too to avoid Skulking Geists and/or polymorph effects on Rin. And NO voidlords just to be a "purist".
So I go to ranked (lvl 8) and test how it flies. I'm pitted against Mage. Damn. But it's a Big Mage! I'm feeling all giggly already!
I pull a turn 7 Rin + Sanguine Raveler Combo (he's got to be running polymorph!) and during the next couple turns I get to the final seal with 9 cards in hand. Nice!!
Oh wait, did I forgot to mention he got a Lyra out of the Firelands Portal? And also got one spell from her too? I bet you already know which one it was! Shit, shit, shit!
Mind Vision out of 9 cards and gets the fucking Final Seal.. :/ :'( :'( Why me, god?!

I actually feel the game is filled with original and interesting cards. No doubt about it! The cardbase has a ton of variety from invulnerability (Ice Block) to forever resurrecting flower-dudes (Sherazin). And Giants getting cost reductions from different things, a weapon that is hitting you for 15dmg lifesteal each turn! Add in a dozen exploding minions that damage the whole board. Secrets that keep you quessing, spells that hit for 10dmg!
My point is that the card base is extremely varied and triggers a million brain cells for me in deck building to make weird combos and stuff. The main problem which I've mentioned in my previous posts too is the monotonous game engine itself, which is the biggest hinderance for creating meaningful gaming experiences. "Get 1 mana a turn, start with a ridicilously small starting hand, inflict 30dmg to your opponent, win." It forces the game to be a sort of a tempo race with a huge rng factor to it.
My favorite card game company by far is Fantasy Flight Games and they are doing some stupidly awesome shit in their games delving into the base mechanisms that the average Joe doesn't even realize to ask for. I mean in their games they usually don't just give you a card and mana a turn, but they make that a decision point to the player. How much effort are you putting to gain resources this turn, or will you be the aggressor instead etc etc. I'm not sure if that sounds as cool as it is, but not going the lazy rout of linear economy creates a meaningflu and decision requiring gaming experience by itself. Decks could then be tweaked to not only excel in hitting face, but be economically more viable and crushing your opponent in the long run via superior income and a superior army at that point.
To conclude I feel Blizzard is designing some fantastic and varied cards, but the gaming community (especially the more competetive playerbase) is starting to demand a much more meaningful gaming experience. Unfortunately there are not that many viable options out there in the market at this time, and I'm hoping Valve's Artifact will be "the god game" we have been looking for. For Hearthstone it would basically mean a total revamp of the system and sort of "Hearthstone 2" to change the game enough. With it's current system I feel adding different stuff onto the game might feel like putting bandages over serious wounds.
Ps. As I spoke about the varied card base I didn't addres the fact that I too feel like they're making a bit too many polarized cards and the power creep has been growing so much that it is a shame the cool cards can't get a good winrate as it stands because of the much more consistent and crushingly effective cards. A super bold move by Blizzard would be to start the Year of the Raven by introducing Much more "nerfed" cards and gradually start downgrading the power level of the cards to fight the power creep. Of course business wise I don't see that as a good solution cause the players would be infuriated to not get "any good cards" in the set -> meta would still be dominated by the Mammoth cards.

Excellent write-up! Similar wibe I have watching Spell Hunter matches with Barnes-Y'Shaarj combo. Like how much of a good feeling can you get when you play Barnes on four? I bet it's sort of fun for a couple of times but in the long run a player like me can't get the sensation of gratitude for a well played game after that kind of bull. The same problem I have with Keleseth. Draw it and you have a nice advantage. Don't draw it and it pisses you off. In any case those polarized cards don't make me feel good about the game.

In my opinion the best and most versatile deck to take on any deck in the meta is the good ol' cubelock. It just has everything for almost any situation and while it can be countered by many shenanigans, it just keeps on rolling so smoothly game after game with a wide variety of options and value. It is actually quite fun to pilot too and if only it wasn't played so much and percieved as a cancer deck I would be playing it much more! At the moment I steer away from it and try to homebrew my own stuff. I just couldn't hit level 10 with any other deck it seemed, so I caved and got to level 10 just now with it. From now on it will be meme city again!

As a competetive card game compared to other games in the genre Hearthstone is a bad game. It does earn millions of dollars a year and is stupidly addictive and enjoyable to a degree, but it's a bad game none the less.
The game system is just too simple, and the cards are way too swingy. Add this to starting hand of 3 (I mean this got to be a joke) and you have a luck of the draw fiesta started at the beginning of each match already. The simplicity of the system (destroy opponent's hero) limits design space and as the goal of the game seems to be all about quick matches queued after one another, they can't just print Chillwind Yetis and Oasis Snapjaws, cause it would make the games too grindy/chessy without the x-factor.
We are now in a situation where a 13/4 statted Fledling with windfury is a possibility if you don't happen to draw the answer early enough. And I'm not just bashing the Fledling, but the nature of "Answerstone" in general. If you had destroyed your opponents board with a Duskbreaker that would have also been a shitty moment, albeit not for you anymore. The power level is insane when the games can fly out of the window in two turns not because of misplays but because of the luck of the draw or the lack of an answer.
My gripe is that people seem to take this game semi-seriously as a competetive game and that the huge influence Blizzard has to a wide customer-base is taking too much foot-hold from potentially better games. Also the fact that when a discussion arises where people start talking about "great games" and they mention MtG as one of them baffles the shit out me! If someone could point out an older card game to me than MtG, please do, but other than that leave that aged miserable system alone and start consentrating on the future and better systems dear lord!

Ups and downs. I'm at the downest down and hating the game with every cell of my body atm.
I've been experimenting like crazy for the couple of past weeks and I cannot get any of my ideas taking flight. They might achieve a winrate of 40-50%, but I want to climb ladder with them. Otherwise they are just poor memes that don't deserve to live. I am depressed to the bone!!
And finally when I just wanted to have a couple of easy wins with my god-mode-cubelock, I get beaten by aggro although I have TWO Voidlords on the board turn 5! I guess a Hellfire and a Soulfire is just something I need to take up in my bum - sideways- without lubricant - in flames - covered by chilisauce!
Like if I can't get a win in the best situation imaginable it just means the game sucks (read: it's not for me). I just frigging want a game this accessible and with as large audience as this one, where the pros (<- not me) can get a +90% winrate. That is a good game there! Not this "as close to 50% as possible" bullshit. That is rock-paper-scissors or tossing the coin. And those games suck. And people suck. And all suck. I suck at sucking. Suck.
Suck.
