You sure you activated combo. If yes than indeed that's a bug, report to blizzard.

It depends on merc rarity and the bounty (it seems droprates differ slightly). In general it goes like this:
-You need 2700 coins to max out most mercs (3 skills 5 levels each and 3 equipments with 4 levels. Some mercs have less equipment to max, e.g. Sylvanas has only 3 levels on her deathrattle equipment, whatever it is called)
-Old tasks gives 985 coins to specific merc and some amount to random ones (I'm to lazy to count the exact amount. Those coins are nice early on but since we still don't have duplicate protection they become worhtless later on). New tasks (for merc that unlock one equipment throught bounty rather than task 7) give 55 more coins, 1040 total.
-As such with the merc already unlock and tasks done you still need 1660-1715 coins.
-In case of legendary mercs whom seems to be most consistent in terms of bounty reward, you get min. of 15 coins from heroic bounty, rarely 20 and even more rarely an extra pile. I would say that it's rougly 20 coins of average per bounty. For common and epic mercs coins piles seems to be a bit bigger (20 is quite common, sometimes you can get 25).
-Finally 1660/20 is 83 - bounties to do (86 for 1715) . It a bit hard to tell how long it takes to finish a bounty even on average (it depends on you skill, avaible mercs, treasures and the bounty itself) but I would say 15-20 min at least in my case. As such maxing a legendary merc takes 21-29 hours with no extra coins from tasks, packs or ranked rewards (and shop of course).

so given that no new mercs were announced today (except Murky, who doesn't count because he's a track freebie), I went ahead and opened more packs, getting Deathwing on the 38th.
Now, do I keep opening packs to try to get Drek, or do we think they'll surprise announce more mercs next week?
I don't know about new merc but where do you see a freebie? I see another 1700 coins to collect.

Because it is illegal (at least in the US):
WHAT DO YOU DO IF YOU UNEXPECTEDLY FIND EXTRA MONEY IN YOUR ACCOUNT?
If you find yourself with an unexpected financial windfall in the form of a deposit you didn't make, you may be wondering if you are entitled to keep the money. This is the time when all of your friends suddenly become armchair lawyers, giving you all sorts of differing advice. Unfortunately, the money isn't yours unless you made the deposit or if someone else made the deposit on your behalf.
The only time you can keep money that is deposited into your account is when the deposit was intended to be made into your account. So, if the deposit was a mistake, you can't keep the money. It's as simple as that.
WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU USE MONEY THAT WASN'T YOURS?
Cases abound of people who have received erroneous deposits and then spent some, most or all the money and found themselves facing criminal charges. People did various things with the money, from moving it to other accounts to gain interest, investing it, buying cars, helping relatives with bills, or giving to charity. Criminal charges varied by state, but basically amounted to theft of property lost by mistake and receiving stolen property, even in cases where the money went for good or noble causes.
Dust is not money. Dust is a virtual commodity. If I find a crate of Cheetos in a ditch, I can try to track down who left them there and try to return them, but I am also within my rights to eat them since they appear to have been abandoned.
However, these particular Cheetos have a tracking device in every bag, and the people who made the Cheetos know exactly where they are at all times. They also have the ability to teleport the Cheetos back to the warehouse -- even if you have already eaten them. They will pull the sustenance from the cells of your body, leaving you hungrier than you've ever been in your life.
seriously guys, they won’t take back the cards, kudos to whoever was smart enough to craft cards and well sorry for the others “Better luck next time”
They probably won't take back the cards, but they can and will assign negative dust, so it may be awhile before you are able to spend dust again.
Dust is not a commodity, dust is fiat money at best (i highly recommend 'When it REALLY Began - BankWars: Weimar Hyperinflation Episode 1' by TIKhistory on youtube Link here).
. Other than that I agree.

Pvp in mercenaries is awesome, much better than standard nowadays. You just need to get through grind phase.

Two 4/5s on board on turn one, completely balanced. When will Blizz realize that "cost less" is a bad idea.
This sort of extreme unlikely scenario is irrelevant. Might as well bring up multiple scenarios where the gnolls are stick at the bottom of your deck. Not to say that it couldn’t be changed to cost 6 or be adjusted into a 4/4 and still be fair
4 out of my last 20 games against rougue. 10 other had one 4/5 on turn one which is still quite powerfull. And normally I wouldn't count extreme scenarios either but that's rogue we're talking about, it can cicle through tons of cards for free/nearly free so it's not extreme at all.
