So, out of curiosity, when do we start calling it a conspiracy that the first posted finalist keeps winning each week?
On a totally, in-no-way-related, side note; hey Asylum, how much you want for posting my card first if I make it to the finals next week? ;p
Someone should look at all the previous design competitions and see if this is true, just out of curiosity. Also would be nice if there was a function to randomize the order of the poll options.
I know for the 2 weeks preceding this one, that has been the case. Before that though, I can't recall it actually happening at all lol. I just thought it was a funny coincidence that's happened.
so mods can submit Troll cards and qualify? Wight Girl is more troll card than rope giant.
also i think some people voted for that cards this week because the mod of this competition was behind it.
Are you kidding? Rope giant was a rope with a face and arms so poorly drawn on that it could only be intentional. And it was poorly worded with a questionable effect. Wight Girl actually works as a card and doesn't have troll art.
It's a clever play on a cultural reference and yes, technically it works as a card, but come on. It's basically a meme. And art depicts a girl holding an iPhone.
It's a zombie girl, and Asylum tried hard to find good art, unlike rope giant. The non-effort was a big part of it being a troll card. There is a big difference between trolling and making a joke. Just because it's based on a meme doesn't make it trolling. Blizzard has a long history of jokes and cultural references.
Just to be clear, I'm not defending Rope Giant here. God, no. I'm just not sure if joke cards are fit to be in the finals.
(I mean, Asylum could use a regular undead female art to make the joke a little more subtle and I would be fine with it)
I feel like your being a little nitpicky. Yeah, the art could be more warcraft-y, but it can be really hard to find art that fits your card really well, especially if you do something unusual. From my experience, you often have to end up compromising between having your art not make much sense and having it not fit the warcraft theme. The art would have been better if it was a normal warcraft undead female using a Gnomish 1PH0N3-6000S, but there isn't any art like that.
Also of note: I am just defending Wight Girl as a legitimate entry. I also think it could have been more subtle. The literally can't even should have been flavor text. Note that there is precedent for joke text on the card, as in the "Warning: Bots may explode" on Dr. Boom.
Power Overwhelming: Give a friendly minion +4/+4 until end of turn. Then, it dies. Horribly.
Also, (if I'm not incorrect): Why Fangs of the Father are there? Tactical Assassin was the most voted of its page (the same from my page).
That's the benefit of getting fewer submissions is that we have more room in the finals and don't have to only take the top-voted entry on each page. ^_^
Which I'm particularly grateful for. I really liked Head of the snake, by Xylign, but the speed at which he was catching up to me in votes those last few hours was making me MIGHTY nervous.
Thanks to everyone who voted for my card (Dr Decipus). I really appreciate it.
That said, Vicious Elementalist, by widzei, is easily my favorite card this week. It's so damn creative, and fits the class so well. If you aren't voting for it, you should be ashamed!
thanks for the feedback everyone. I've been at work all day so I couldn't get back to all the replies.
The major problem child here seems to be the Anubar Soldier. In my mind, Ambush is a particularly powerful effect, and I wanted to tie it to the inspire mechanic specifically because rogue can't make as much use of it as other classes. it means you have to make the choice of an inefficient play to get some later power, or an efficient one for less power.
As to making it apply at the start or end of turn, I shied away from that because there could be such a thing as to MANY Ambushes. Especially with Jazio's Anub'ar Enforcer being the thing which was supposed to tie the whole idea together. That, And I just like being able to choose when it happens a lot more. It's more of a personal preference in the design.
As to the 1-Attack on the Sentry, that was a conscious decision, because you're supposed to work for it. Yes, you probably need to use cold blood on it. In my mind, that was the whole point: put in a little effort, for a pretty strong ability.
If anyone else has ideas to support a Nerubian theme, I'd be happy to see them. While I'm pretty pissed at Blizzard for giving Nerubians to rogues instead of the inevitable DK class, The Idea has grown on me quite a bit.
I must first preface this by saying that I was majorly inspired by Jazio's submission for week 37 of the WCDC. He took third place with it, and it got my creative juices flowing. This was his card:
Um, people, is it just me or this week's theme is so embarrassing no one can make something simple enough to get 10 votes? I'm looking at page 5, there are five votes on the entire page!
Meh, we're 1/2 a day into the competition, and for a significant portion of voters, submissions on that page cam from late afternoon, to particularly late at night/super early in the morning. it's still mid-morning to early morning for North America right now. give it some time for the voters to actually wake up and vote.
Flavor: One of the sworn enemies of that Stormwind web-slinger, Nerubianman.
Odd number attack buffs are fairly rare actually, and you also have to manage his health too. Actually interesting in that you have to attack enemies with even attack or you'd lose your Windfury too.
Finally I came up with a card like this that isn't too much farfetched.
"Behead the Head" is kinda redundant. It should just be "Behead". Also, you forgot the "an" before "odd". You don't have to capitalize or bold "Odd" either. Also, you could should the text by saying "to their hero" instead of "to the enemy hero".
Decapitate might also work as a card name.
That said, I'd argue that it DOES need to say "to the enemy hero."
In my mind it's fairly balanced by the fact that most buffs either are an even amount, or odd ones only last one turn. Odd amount attack buffs are actually fairly uncommon in the game.
By my estimation, the best classes for this card would be pally, then shammy.
I don't know if it is balanced, but I loved it and the art is very good too :)
Mayhaps make it so it's attack AND health have to be even? That's certainly a harder set of circumstances to fulfil.

Please help me with spelling right in my card. The point of that minion that his health boost for each minion died this game - it means even it's not in your hand. So if you get it in late game - it will be very fat :) But i don't know am i right in describing this mechanic on card. Will be very ppreciate for help
Has +1 Health for each minion that died this game.
-Each minion THAT died this game.
-period at the end of the sentence.
Also, this card should have, at the minimum, 1 Health. That way Ironbeak doesn't kill it, but just reduces it to one health.
Tyrygosa is fine, kind of a bigger, badder Saraad.
Morchok on the other hand... my main concern is that you can just go face with the guy and get a free Consecration / Explosive Trap. It's stupidly good, but then again, he competes in the same league as Ysera and Malygos.
Tyrigosa has already been labelled by a moderator as an invalid entry, as it violates the rule about this week's minions having to be simple, without generating cards or using obscure mechanics that require explanations.
Asylum has spoken. Morchok it is then. (Sorry about missing that blatantly obvious part of the rules. me are dumbs.)
I've altered it to be all other minions instead of all enemy minions. I can't fix it to only attack minions (not enough room) so that's all I've got. It's probably still too strong though as with even +1 attack get a hellfire every turn that also doesn't hit you, which is kind of strong. Yeah, it hits you minions now, but this guy would probably be the only minion you'd need.

I made 4 cards with this Nerubian inspiration.

Flavor: "FEEL the strength of the ERRRFFF!!!"
On summon: You seek to halt an avalanche. I will bury you.
On attack: Ground to dust.
On Death: Impossible. This cannot be. The tower... must... fall...
