Maybe because they think there are enough keywords already and new players might have difficulty remembering all of them. Also maybe they might want to do variations of joust in the future. Like 'reveal a minion from each players deck, if yours has higher ATTACK..' or 'reveal a minion from each players deck, if yours costs LESS...' or 'reveal a SPELL form each players deck...'. There's a lot they can do with this concept in the future but only if it's not limited to cost, card type and victory.

Demonocrat posted a message on Hearthstone cards that would be OP in MTG and vice versa!Posted in: General DiscussionOn the Dark Ritual topic, there are many cards that were reprinted over and over in early MTG editions which are now considered overpowered, or at leat format warping (as in, the simple existence of this card warps playability of pretty much whole decks or archetypes), Dark Ritual being among them, with Counterspell and Brainstorm, for example. Dark Ritual would never be printed in a contemporary set.
To take this topic to the extreme, I'd nominate the extremely broken Necropotence (for those who don't play MTG, it's a spell that trades off your automatic card draw each turn for the ability to pay 1 life for each card you want to draw, as many times as you want) or any single spell that allows you to take an extra turn (Time Walk, of course, is broken, but even the nerfed Time Warp would be insane in Hearthstone).
On the other side, I'd say many, many powerful early aggro or tempo drops in Hearthstone would tear apart at least Standard in MTG, and some may even break into more powerful formats. Mana Wyrm would be insane in tempo or burn decks, the lowly Leper Gnome would most certainly be played in red decks, and Mad Scientist, if reworded to work within MTG, would be utterly insane - a two-drop who automatically casts a 2-3 mana spell, which you can control ? -

kitsel posted a message on Varian Wrynn is The new Iron JuggernautPosted in: General DiscussionRespectfully disagree there. Ancient of Lore is a class card and would be used in almost every single deck if it was a neutral - I'm not saying that Wrynn is better or worse but saying that something is worse than Ancient of Lore doesn't mean that it's unusable. Drawing non minions is fine - typically the types of decks that would run this card aren't going to die from loss of tempo if he draws 3 spells/weapons, and while negating battlecries can suck, most of them aren't that important once turn 10 rolls around aside from something like a BGH or an Alex. Most of the time, losing the battlecry will be worth the free summon.
It's also possible that he gets used in a different version of Control Warrior than the one we're used to seeing. I'm not one for freaking out over dream scenarios but even in non dream scenarios I think he'll turn out fine most of the time. I don't think he's a gamebreaker or anything but I do think he'll see play.

Drathdarkstar posted a message on New Mage Card - RhoninPosted in: Card DiscussionThis is not bad by any means. Not great, but it is at least playable. I mean people use to think Archmage Antonidas was a bad card and along with velen one of the 2 worst class legendaries.

BLIZZARD. IF YOU WANNA FORCE ME TO STOP USING MAGE, QUIT THE CLASS FROM THE GAME!!!!
I'll tell you, it won't see play, Synergy with Archmage Antonidas(or, even, with Emperor and Malygos) is NOT enough.Legendaries MUST BE GOOD BY THEIRSELVES!! COMPARE THIS TO THE WARRIOR LEGENDARY!!!! As if Grommash wasn't already OP... Or with ANY other of the class legendaries... This one's clearly the WORST of Class Legendaries... BULLSHIT!!!!
FUCK YOU Blizzard... Mage is my favorite class... and you're giving him way the WORST class Legendaries...
I love seeing first posts.

Evaluating a card by its worst scenario (it will always get removed) is tempting but not actually a good practice since Mechwarper and Knife Juggler, two cards you can say the exact same thing about, remain really good cards.

People saying that this isn't good enough to replace Wild Growth don't get it. Nobody's removing Wild Growth for this card, this is Wild Growth 3 and 4 in your deck.

oh dang, guess I'm going to have to take all the silverback patriarchs and War Golems out of my decks...
You putz.

Yo momma so fat I had to Shrinkmeister her twice first before I could cast Shadow Madness
Yo momma so fat that when I used Recombobulator she turned into a Molten Giant

I agree, I would not run Flame Leviathan in any other mage deck. It's not great. But he is very explosive, which makes him a mandatory pick here. In addition drawing him is almost always guaranteed to start off a chain reaction with any explosive minions already on the board.\
Basically I want him because he's funny, not because he's good.

Well to be fair, Ogre Magi is a super smart ogre. If he's coordinated enough to boost Spellpower than he's coordinated enough to hit the intended target.
Boulderfist Ogre on the other hand, has no such excuse. He is finally revealed for the Yeti in an Ogre-suit that he always was.

it's all ogre now

guess what

Well actually if he had Charge he would be insanely OP and easily one of the worst card designs Blizzard would have ever done. It'd be a like a return to the 4 mana Leeroy OTK meta only with the bonus that trading with his minions hurts you.
