posted a message on Hero portrait shop opinion and game monetization

    Hi,

I wanted to open this thread to see people's opinion about the way blizzard is putting Hero Portraits for sale, even expansion pre-orders ( Mecha Jarraxus ). Personally I love it, I'm a cosmetic collector myself and I think this would be a better way to monetize the game instead of charging so much for card packs. I really hope if this works out that blizz will make this the primary monitization for the game and make the game more accessible to new players.

I saw a lot of people rant about how they don't want the EXCLUSIVE skins to be for sale, but IMHO it shows no game accomplishment what so ever, except that you spent $ on the game a long time ago. So i'm interested in peoples oppinion about this, and any comments on how blizz could make the core game ( Cards, Battlegroud perks and so on ) cheaper. I personally hope for a mechanic that allows to trade Legendaries 1:1 instead of having to dust 4 of them to craft 1 that you need.

From the current standard format: Tickatus , he just feels righ to play. Even without the corrupt a fat 6 mana 8/8 is sometimes good enough on its own if you need board pressure, even if he burns 5 of your cards sometimes the lethal setup is just worth it.

Also Bearshark for no real reason I just like that card. And all 4 old gods from the Madness expansion, they all are fun to play for me.

Legacy/Wild cards: Probably the one which I loved the most is Leeroy Jenkins , the card flavour was just right plus it was a pretty good card also.

Another one I have fond memories of is The Lich King it just felt too cool to play him, I hope they bring him back one day.

    Quote from SpaceTimeDream >>

Sigh, I am tired of saying “don’t buy” and explaining how customers aren’t responsible for the game’s longevity and the developers livelihood and salaries. If the game dies because people don’t buy then the game dies and thats it. It dies because of greedy monetization scheme.

Of course don’t buy it. Did you even stop and evaluate what you are “buying” and questioned if it is worth the price they put on it?

Lets say they introduce “buying” a specific card and you “bought” Alextraza. Then, a week later they changed or nerfed the card you “bought”. Now did you “buy” anything really? Did you own that card? Can you even bring the issue in court? Most likely no, because you paid to have access to the card(s) and not own them.

”People are free to spend their money however they want” this statement isn’t all true unfortunately. People spendings steer the market. If a seller sells a blue car for $100 and a green car for $10000, people going to buy the blue car. The seller will “see” that there isn’t a huge demand on the green car so will manufacture it less and less until it disappear from the market. Same with games, if people are buying and accepting lootboxes more and more then why go back to old unprofitable systems? People are perfectly happy to shoot themselves in the foot.

Look at what you made me do, rambling first thing in the morning. Just stop buying lootboxes and packs please. Don’t even give me excuses like “I work 24hr shift and I have 50 kids to feed”.

I don't really agree with you. As a kid I played a lot of Yu-Gi-Oh. The only way you could get cards is by buying them in those packs, where you'd get a set amount of random cards. That is the reason why I think card packs in HS are fine, because card games have always been monetized that way - You buy a pack and get random cards. True that HS isn't a physical card game and you TECHNICLY don't own those cards, but at least they offer full dust refund for the cards you have after a nerf, plus they added duplicate protection, which you don't have in conventional card games. It would be pretty neat to have a trading feature at least for legendary cards where you can trade it in for another legendary either via direct trade with other players or just trade it in the store, it would make the game a lot more player friendly.

To be fair Blizz is a little bit greedy like damn 3€ a pack that could use some work, but as far as I think everything that's like 1€ a pack is a pretty good deal for me. People can do whatever they want with their money, personally I think the mega bundle or even the small bundle is a nice deal if you play HS. Blizz is a company after all, they didn't make HS because its fun for them to program it, they made it to make money. You can't ask them to do a miracle and give everything out for free, they put a lot of work into this.  The pack system is fine, they give f2p players also a somewhat decent amount of free resources so they can stay competitive with at least 1 viable deck, you wont get to play with all the cards but for a f2p experience what more can you ask for, if you want more cards you gotta pay up.

I'm getting the large bundle, might the the battle pass If I see the need for it.  Anything that's like 1€ a pack is a good deal in my book.

Agreed, people are getting greedy. They are still a company trying to make money, but they definitely made the game more f2p friendly. Like cmon, the rewards track was a turd when it launched but now it seems actually rewarding, giving players more resources as they promised.

I don't see the point in people ranting about stuff they give out in the rewards track. There is plenty of gold in it now. They even gave us the mini set for a set amount of gold too, so you didn't have to pay for that either, all could have been done while grinding. And if you have some spare gold they even released 2 old unobtainable hero skins again in the store for gold too. Blizzard definitely deserves some slack. It ain't ideal but it could be worse, I prefeer this over the 10 gold per 3 wins and the old quests any day.

I thought, if they added a DH why wouldn't they add a DK too ?

Basically my idea about the class is to have a DK ( The Lich King as the hero ), with the hero ability being a 2 mana ability which can only target enemy minions and basically it would read " Give an enemy minion Deathrattle: Spawn a 2/1 Ghoul for your enemy ( Basically for you the DK ) " so after you kill that minion it would resurrect it to fight for your cause ( As DK's do, they resurrect slain enemies to fight by their side ).

Some strengths of the class would be board refill with ghouls ( Give the class some spells that give enemy minions the above mentioned Deathrattle ), some buffs for the ghouls and basically make it a Control based class, where you control the board with a swarm of ghouls and give them some Elite Death Knight units to lead your army of the dead.

Some of the mentioned Elite DK class units could be Kel'Thuzad in some way or another, Thoras Trollbane, Baron Riverdare and so on... Maybe some units from the expansion Knights of the Frozen Throne.

As for spells and secrets, would be cool to implement Runes, some frost spells and life drain into the class.

For the weak sides, I'm still not quite sure, perhaps make them weak-ish to big taunts and big minions in general, since having to smash all of your ghouls and minions into a big one isn't quite the best thing for you, plus they can only get a few ghouls of them that way. Perhaps also limit the card draw of the class.

This is just a basic idea of the class, needs a lot of refinment. I personally would love to see a DK class in HS, let me know what you think about a Death Knight class being added to HS and if you have any ideas for the class :)!

posted a message on The Trouble w/ Paladins

I legit put in the effort to get Arthas as a Hero. grinded 2 days for him, I thought pally would finally get some good and cool stuff that fits the class. I mean I mainly play Warlock to climb but paladin was always my 2nd class and honestly except mech pally I don't see any other viable deck, and we just lost that one to the rotation. I hope we get some nicer cards in Year of the Phoenix, some cards that fit Paladin and help boost his class identity. I mean we got Murger, but seriously? Murlocs? Not that I hate on them my nickname on battlenet is legit "BlindMurloc" I LOVE THEM but holy ... do they frustrate me with the wierd decision that paladin should be a Murloc class after all that "Class Identity" stuff they wrote a while ago.

They went in the good direction this update with the Librams and the Legendaries, we got some good cards for the class. And as people said above they are just "Good" not broken. Which isn't quite enough to make the cut, I have yet to try the libram pally deck, but I sure wont be crafting it any time soon, since all I see on ranked ladder is , DH, Galakrond Warlocks, Rogues, annoying Priests.

They should probably give pally the same treatment as with priest, and get him a new basic set, maybe some classic pally cards too, to help with the class identity and boost his strenght. I think the main problem with the class is that they have somewhat weak basic cards compared to the other classes, and with the other issues it just makes it a bad class to play in general ( IMO ) .
