Boss Overview
Black King is the third and final boss in The Parlor wing of the One Night in Karazhan adventure.
- Hero Power: Cheat
Pro Tips and Strategy
- You won't need to build a deck for this fight but you must make valuable plays against the Black King as unlike normal difficulty, you can't Discover new chess pieces.
- Positioning is the main component to this fight.
- He can use his hero power to cheat which gets rid of your left-most minion. Keep your Pawns to the left.
- You want to avoid having minions directly across from his when attacking, you want your minions to be between his so that they will attack twice.
- You can rearrange your own minions through Castle. Useful to move healers around and target specific minions.
- If Black Queen comes into play you want to make it a priority target.
- Black Bishop is secondary on the priority list. Letting it heal for too long will result in sad times.
- White Queen is an absolute monster. Use her to clear the board easily. Protect the Queen - you only get one!
- White Knight is awesome. It is the only minion that you can choose where it attacks regardless of its position. Keep it away from the left side of the board at all costs and use it to make effective trades.
- White Bishop is your source of healing. Keeping your White Knight and White Queen healed will help assert dominance. You can later use your hero power to move this over to other minions which require aid.
- White Pawn is your primary mulligan target. They will protect your better minions and are playable at any point in the game thanks to their mana cost of 1.
Rewards
Defeating Black King for the first time will reward you with cards!
Once the regular version of the card(s) is unlocked, you can craft the golden versions.

That was an easy win with that strategy. Thank you so much !
First game won with this advice. Thx ;)
First try following your advise! Took a little bit longer than 9 turns, but I stayed on top of his minion count and got him.
I was wondering if anyone have it in their good hearts to help me out with this boss, perhaps by spectating my game?
I had a really hard time beating it on Normal. Heroic, on the other hand, is even more tricky...
I just think it's a really boring boss and my spirits drop even more with each loss :/
My B-Tag is WordSmith#1123 if anyone is feeling friendly, haha...
Go to my guide (on page 2 of this forum) or look at another guide on what your first turns should be as this will get you most of the way there.
thank you for the help and reply!
If you can get the queens on the right end game you've won
Best boss ever!
after 85 tries I did heroic. Really enjoyable, too much RNG tho.
go away
Haha, no it wasn't THAT bad. It took me 85 tries to do heroic. :D normal was easy, yet entertaining.
Normal was funny, because of the mechanics. But Heroic made those mechanics annoying.
Nice video!
Also, because shazam isn't working, could you link me the music?
Yay, the heroic was like the actual chess event solo. And we WoW players all know how much fun the chess event is solo...
Your advice worked perfectly. thank you! I used the new "restart" thing until I got a hand with three pawns, then drew the Rook. Using your placement strategy I beat this encounter on the FIRST TRY without even taking any damage. :D
works like a charm xD thank you!
lol, firts try with your advice, thx
Well, the heroic isn't difficult just the complete opposite of fun.
