Back in Hearthstone after few years (btw much better systems nowadays with grinding to legend and reward track!) and got back to legend on January. However, only had time for a week, so I was just testing different decks and so on.
Now got to legend yesterday and started at rank 1465. After that according to deck tracker I have played 49 games in legend with stats 30 - 19 so 61% win rate and I am now rank 1702.
How does the system work? Does it mean that I am not playing enough, or how can I be dropping so much with quite decent win rate?
Sometimes I have more time to play and sometimes not, so my goal is not to reach high legend, but it would be nice to have 11 x bonus stars anyway, as I have understood that it might be enough to reach rank of around 2-2,5k?
Rank 1702 means that based on your MMR you are the #1702 ranked player among all those that have made legend so far this month. Given that we are quite early in the month, more and more players will be making legend every day which means that in these 'early' days your rank should decay quite fast if you are not playing. As for getting 11x bonus, being ranked within the top 2.5k at the end of the month should do it indeed.
I was suspecting this as much. It just goes so fast down, as 60% win rate is quite decent (although small sample size, I know) and I get like 15-20 ranks from win and then lose around 200 ranks over night :)
Anyway doesn't matter that much as having fun is the important part!
It depends on what region you're in as well. In NA I have it on very good authority that you'll need to be around top 1,000 to safely attain 11x, so if you are in NA you certainly shouldn't settle for anything lower if you can help it.
I'm irritated because Blizzard doesn't publicize what's required to attain the 11 star bonus. It's unfair to make us guess what the requirements are.
Also, I'm of the opinion that the 11 star bonus is bad for the game and community because it tends to entrench the same people at high legend every month, and makes it much more difficult for newer players to break in. Blizzard seems to be picking favorites.
The only difference it makes is on the road to legend. Sure, getting there early is an advantage, but if you need the star bonus to get to legend, maybe you don't deserve the 11x...

He clearly doesn't need the 11х bonus just to get to the legend as he is capable of doing it without it in a week. It's a matter of time management. It's important for players who don't climb a lot inside the legend, as it allows to play other modes more. I'm not always have 11x bonus and still hit legend regardless, but I obviously have to play less BGs or Arena in months when I only have 10х bonus.

If you are a good player playing a good deck and hitting 60% or better WR at legend you should get to the 11x ranks without too much trouble as at worse legend ranks you make big jumps in rank for each victory. The main issue I have with the 11x bonus is that it de-motivates me from having some fun with meme decks, both in the early season at the various rank floors and later at legend...
Yeah for me it is exactly about time management. And trying to understand how it works. Of course, if I don't deserve the 11 x bonus that's fine!
I didn't know I get more ranks when winning on lower ranks, that of course helps. Now it seems I always get that 15-20 ranks by winning. Yesterday I went 13-2 with Quest Handlock and when opening this morning to check I was at the same rank as yesterday starting. So it seems I would need to play more at least this early of season to keep the same rating.
Thanks for advice, this is good trying to understand how all works after quite a long absence from the game!
Now that I've played some games it seems that you need to play quite a lot actually to keep your rank. I've now played in two days 35 games with win rate of 62 % and lost 450 ranks.
Well, I think it is not worth the game time trying to keep very high rank by the end of month.

Alternatively, you could play wild. Less people play wild than standard in your region, so the de-ranking you're experiencing would be considerably less severe and consequently 11x rank would be easier to attain and retain over the course of the month. Which of course makes climbing to legend/high legend next month considerably easier. The rewards are exactly the same as well. The only thing that you're missing out on is the opportunity to go pro, which I would imagine you probably aren't interested in anyway

If NA then you'll need at least 1400 - 1500 at the end of the month to get 11x.
If you are already near 2k this early in the month then you'll need to try a bit harder to get there.
Thanks for answers!
I'm playing in EU and based that estimate regarding that. I've heard that there are less players in NA so the value is less, but not sure though.
