Will have to disagree with the few of you who believe that Dragon Rulers were the best format. Their playstyle was obnoxiously obvious and with cards like super rejuvenation, made them much too quick for other decks.
You're saying that as someone who doesn't play meta decks though. Which format is "good" should be decided by the competitive players because they are actually playing the format.
I love YuGiOh! (Bonus points to anyone who knows my avatar)
Neo aqua madoor ;)
The most obvious card in hearthstone that reminds me of yugioh is deathwing. Deathwing-Chaos emperor dragon.
I have played yugioh from day one when I was 13 untill they introduced synchro summoning. I played about every deck possible back then (gravekeeper, crystal beast, gladiator beast, beas, monarch , dark, light, warrior, exodia, burn, destinyboard, skull servant, lv monsters,rock.... to many to remember after all these years), i had allot of fun deckbuilding.
My favorite deck in memory was probably a monarch deck with raiza the storm monarch as favorite monarch. Maybe my last dark deck with dark armed dragon before they banned the shit out of that deck.
One of my favorite cards was Jar of greed ^^ that card was always underestimated as hell ( i never saw its use either) untill i started playing it, so much fun seeing people use there mystical space typhoon-dust tornado-mobius-heavy storm on it :)
Oh man I used to love Yu-Gi-Oh. Still love it for some of the crazy combos and synergys decks had, never found another TCG to have quite the flash/style YGO had, as broken as most of it was. Ran a Five-God Dragon deck using Dragon's Mirrors and Future Fusion before it was banned, and a Monarch deck that ran a lot of the frog's for synergy. I never really played in the meta, only with friends, though I had a friend who followed it. Quit right as synchro's were coming out, so really only ever added them to one deck. I liked some of the ideas the later gimmicks had but it was kind of sad how they pretty much pushed everything before them out.
I'm really considering buying some cards to make my decks complete, but I really am ambivalent on it. I only play with my friends, and he suggested that I should get some cards, so I don't have to run proxies everywhere.

You chose the wrong time, we're in a horrible format at the moment for non top tier decks. To even have a chance currently you need to buy Nekroz or Qliphort, if you play anything lower tier you won't even have fun. I guess you can do OK with Satellarknight, Shaddoll or maybe Burning Abyss but all of those decks are at least $100 just for the core (not including extra deck or side deck).

Well, I don't play the meta against them anyhow(And they really don't play the super serious Cash Money decks either). I just have to buy some Koa'Ki, Fire Fist, and Hieratic stuff and those guys are pretty cheap right now, since no support has been teased.
Also the new Monarch stuff isn't to crazy expensive so I can update the deck with a couple of Stormforths.

If you post here or send me your "current" Monarch list I can give you some helpful (and preferably cheap) fixes as a competitive player.
Has anyone tried Yang Zing, I've been interested in getting the deck. Their play style seems interesting to me.
My friend plays yang-zing and he really likes it. It's a solid deck that can do very well, especially if your opponent doesn't know how to play against it.
Would you recommend getting it IRL? Going to do some testing with a build later.
Update: First duel with the deck. I enjoy the deck as it gives a lot of interesting plays. I was destroying a frog player until my Beelze got Creature Swapped of all things.
tough choice between Grapha and Dragged Down to the Grave (if you can't tell, i used to be a DW player lol). i stopped playing around the time bujins were first released because the game was getting a little bit too crazy for me. that said though, i do think yugioh is a more enjoyable game if you're a serious player. i'd love to see the average hearthstone player try and wrack their brain around a deck like prophecy hahah
I've played it a little bit and I think it is pretty fun and worth building. I wouldn't try to top a YCS with it, but with a little luck you can win locals with it, and at the very least you can annoy the hell out of your opponents.

I'm considering getting it now because it is a pretty fun deck. Bixia is just plain brutal. My build is running 3 Jitou and 3 Path though, so I might have to proxy some maindeck cards until I get some more money. Another plus side is that the whole deck is shiny, but a minus is that the whole deck is shiny...

The cards trick you into thinking the deck is interesting but in reality it's just another soft-lock deck. You have to open or recruit Jiaotu ASAP to make a Yazi which is unaffected by traps/can't be destroyed by battle and hope they don't have outs to it (Raigeki, Dark Hole, Monarchs Stofmforth). Game is too fast for stuff like Creation and Path to work as intended.
Shouldn't be expensive though, unless Path is still $20+
On the plus side you can maindeck 3x Mistake which is huge against the top decks. I'd prioritize getting that card.
Path is like $15 currently, and some of the other staples, aka Jiaotu, Yazi, and Creation, are hovering around $5. Everything else if sub-$1 for the singles and that's pretty nice. Deck's pretty cheap, but it adds up.
I play Yang Zings at the moment and it might just be my playstyle preference but I do think they're fun. In May a new card comes out for them that will make them at least a bit more viable. I want to say completely broken but it needs a bit of set up to get out and we can't be certain without playtesting. Thing's name is Chaofeng, Illusion of the Yang Zing. (or at least it was, may have changed.) All in all, I would recommend them, but again, everyone's different.

seems like lots of us stopped around the introduction of synchro.. still amazing TCG .. i used to love the anime aswell
fav yu-gi-oh card is Lord of D. my first original yu-gi-oh deck was a water deck called "Fury from the Deep"
Time is money, friend.

Like in HS, I'm somewhat casual and help people gauntlet some of their decks.

I played yu-gi-oh once, a long time ago. No one in my home town played it though, so I retired shortly afterward. ;_;
