I'm not sure if this is a stupid question or a fair assumption to make. I've heard many people discuss the idea of it, and sometimes when I get new packs I am inclined to think the same. The only time I have ever gotten legendary has been from purchasing cards. Even if I open 100 packs in a row, I'll get maybe a few epics. Then I'll buy 20 packs and get two legendary.
I'm not really mad about it. I'm just curious! What do you guys think? Anybody have proof of anything?
It's rigged in your favor. That is, there's a "pity timer" in place for card pack opening so people don't ragequit the game after opening 50 packs with no legendaries.
This is nothing that Blizzard would ever admit to, yet they have done stuff like this before. When Diablo 3 was released with its rmah they reveled that the drop rates of legendary weapons/armor was proportional to the numbers on the auction house. i.e. if there is a large amount of the same legendary on the auction house, then the drop rates would be lower. Check out this article for proof http://www.cinemablend.com/games/Report-How-Blizzard-Fixed-Drop-Rates-Affect-RMAH-44163.html Some have even suspected that mount drop rates in WOW could function the same way per server, without actually being able to buy them. But with so much money passing through Hearthstone at the moment they will never admit to this. Do I suspect they do? Yes. It completely makes sense. I buy packs, I get legendarys, I want to buy more. I buy packs with gold, I don't get legendarys, I play more until I realize it will take too long to make the deck I want then I buy more packs. Its how they make money. But we will never know for sure though.
It's hard not to at least entertain the idea of something fishy going on. I have opened plenty (most of them actually) of legendaries on packs purchased with gold, I should say.
But I can't help to feel like there is something going on when on my main account (Americas), with all adventures purchased and a decent collection, I only ever got 2 golden legendaries... and when I decide to play on Europe servers for fun... boom, 3 golden legendaries (and one regular)... in much less time and packs. MUCH, MUCH LESS, I rarely play that account, most of the times I won't even get the pack for tavern brawl on it. It might be pure coincidence, but I feel it's like blizzard saying "come, spend your money here too! Look, you already have a golden harrison Jones, and a lot of dust from those other crappy goldens! It's totally worth it!"

I think so. I have no idea what the last legendary was that i got from a gold pack. I get legendary's all the time from cash packs. Better rng for cash i think. Makes sense. If i spent $50 and did not get a legendary i would never spend real money again.
For me, the answer is no, it's not rigged. I'm a person that has spent some money on this game. I always buy 40 pack bulks when I decide to buy. The last Christmas bulk I bought (50 packs) gave me 5 legendaries. I can't really remember all of them. The two I remember however is Onyxia and a Golden Harrison. Other times that I buy in bulk, I get 1 or no legendaries. The drop rate of legendaries are supposed to be 1 in 20 packs. That's not to say you're guaranteed one in the next 20 packs. That means if there was 20 packs on a table for you to choose from, one of them would have a legendary. The next time you choose a pack, there would be another set of 20 to choose from.
However, of course I get other packs that I buy with in game gold and arena runs. I've gotten many legendaries just from singular packs alone. If I was to compare how much legendaries I've gotten from bulk packs to singular packs, I'd comfortably say that I've gotten more legendaries from singulars. Just today I got a Deathwing from buying an in game gold pack and that 10/10 Minion that can't attack heroes from an arena pack.
There are things that make it seem like it's rigged, but I'm fairly certain that it's not.
The last 30 packs I've bought with gold, I have gotten 1 golden card and 0 legendaries. The last time I bought packs with money, the TGT preorder, I got 4 legendaries and about 10 golden cards.

I think it's just pure RNG element. Doesn't really matter if it's from cash or in-game coins. On a bad day, a 40-pack would give me only one normal legendary, whereas on a good day, a 500-coin free 5-pack gave me a golden [card=gold]Bolf Ramshield[/card]. So yeah, it's pretty much pure luck.
The funny thing about something being random is it rarely ever seems to be just that. Our brains crave patterns and more often than not seek them out. Even in places were non exist.

No.
I'm not exactly sure what your argument is here. Are you saying that buying more bulk packs gets you less legendaries?
Hearthstone...I play that.
Music...I make that.
Youtube...I have that.

A Priest Main since March 2014.
I think there is plenty of proof from streamers and stats that you will get a legendary from 40 of the same type of pack opened in the same session.
Nozdormu wins you every game where you opponent has to go to the bathroom on turn 9.

just opened 2 golden legendaries (gormok and ramshield) and 1 regular legendary (chillmaw) over last 40 unpaid packs. doubt they are rigged
Three of my legendaries have come after terrible Arena runs, should I conclude that bad Arena runs make them give you legendaries ?
Bought 7 packs with self-earned gold yesterday, and got golden Alex. Doubt it's rigged...
Everything that isn't about elephants is irrelephant.
I went 2-3 in an Arena once, and opended two legendaries in that pack I got. Think we can conclude that the cards you get is random
