Do you guys think this would work? As a backer of auto-squelch since closed beta (yes, I'm a true hero), do you think this would finally push Blizzard to include this option we so dearly need? The BM in this game is ridiculous and keeps getting worse.
What is with the nanny-state? Like seriously? Do your feelings get hurt so bad by someone going "Well Met!" as they kill you? If you're that affected by it just push "Squelch" at the beginning of a match.
I dislike BMers too and trolls, but seriously? Auto-squelch? I'd rather they fix the S6 issue that makes it so anytime my opponent has an Exodar card back I lose all numbers on my screen. Or fix stupid inconsistencies and/or incorrect rules text on cards.
Besides, the REAL troll problem is people who just rope you repeatedly. And no auto-Squelch is helping that.

Not sure you are using "nanny-state" correctly, but otherwise, yeah, agreed.
Auto-Squelch would be so easy to implement and is a commonly asked for feature. I don't know why it hasn't been done.
There is a reason why they haven't allowed regular chat. Some people don't want to listen to BM every other game and don't want to have to manually squelch every game either.
I am not be against auto squelch. Squelching my opponent in the beginning of a game ended up like a ritual, which I really do every game. I do understand though why there is not and won´t ever be a auto squelch in this game. It is the only interaction someone can have with his opponent. to give people the means to deactivate is would not be useful. A similar reason why there is no stealth mode in the chat function. You cannot hide your online status or limit your online statua to few people.
They'll never implement an auto-squelch because it's bad PR.
What would they say in the patch release? "We felt that users were abusing this so now you can auto-squelch". No they want to promote this idea that everything about the game is nice and fun and that there's no negativity anywhere so they'll never admit that their emotes piss off half the players.
If there would be an auto squelch, it won't be because of BM. Because as far as blizzard is concerned, there's no such thing as BM.
Why? Simply because one of the default emotes is "Threaten". If blizzard is really worried about BMing, do you think they would include an emote to threaten your opponent?
The fact that "Threaten" is a default emote means that either blizzard don't mind BM among players, or they don't think that usage of emote is a major issue.
Plus, there's already a system in place that requires a cooldown period in between successive usage of emotes.

It's probably not apt, you're correct. The proposal wouldn't be Blizzard removing emotes all together, but giving players an option to mute all emotes permanently. I guess I sort of misread into the OP as saying "auto squelch" just turning off emotes of players who emote a lot or more, but then later he/she said "option" so maybe they meant like a check box. "Nanny state" is when typically the government regulates something to protect us from ourselves and comes across as overbearing (i.e. 'no more candy bar sales' or 'no more sale of beverages over X% sugar') - I'd feel it would be sort of in the same realm in Blizzard gave into the people who get so tilted/sore over some fool spamming "well met" when they've established they're 100% to win and just removed emotes all together.
I think you're right though, probably not the best usage.
Auto squelch - I would welcome it - as it would save me half second it takes to squelch at the outset of the game - but I am sure its hardly a priority for Blizzard. As others have pointed out, Blizzard would be admitting that its player base is largely a bunch of BMing douchebags, and they are not going to do that.
So - nice try OP - but it ain't happening. Just make squelching part of your mulligan stage routine. Once the mulligan is over, squelch: Profit
Don't understand why people auto-squelch at all. Nobody ever says more than hello to me. Why bother squelching people that don't say anything anyway. Seems like a waste of time and energy to be honest.

It's people who can't take losing. They displace their nerdrage on to their opponents emotes - suddenly a 'well played' before hitting for lethal is equivalent of a slap in the face, not just "GG" and "Sorry" is like insulting their momma.

Talk about being a sissy, ammaright? Seriously though, how fragile do you need to be to get upset by pre-recorded voice overs? Seriously dude... play the game in mute if you're so inclined but stop requesting for useless features when the game really needs much more basic things like more deck slots.
Makes me wonder what would be the people like if you could talk with your oponents during matches without him being in your friend list, i mean, Why is it so bad to throw down a "well played" after the match ends, is like the ppl is so upset all the time that takes this little to make them run away and put a rant in the hearthpwn forums asking to cut out this seemingly harmless way of comunication between players.
At least one in three times when I make an error and select the "Oops" emote the opponent follows up with "Well Played" If that isn't rude I don't know what is. When it happened to me earlier today I ended up destroying him and said "sorry" after every attack.
People that use emotes use them to BM more often than not from my experience.

is it that hard to actually press squelch?
I mean, you only have to press squelch once. I don't think that really warrants an auto-squelch.
When your opponent has lethal:

Post like this make me laugh though for real.
You must hate having any type of real confrontation IRL.
I mean it's an emote...
Not sure you are using "nanny-state" correctly, but otherwise, yeah, agreed.
No, mainly because it would make it harder for me to BM other people.
Seriously, if you actually get angry when you get playfully trolled on an online game you should probably be doing something else.

I will not back any measure that makes the game even more hostile than it already is, given the behaviour of a lot of players.
Auto-squelch, as any other option, is a nice add. I tend to squelch everyone so I wouldn't mind.
But the goal doesn't justify the means, not these means.
:)
Greatness, at any cost.
That must be it.
