@OP: cause it confirms blizzards route with this game. it will always have outlandish plays and cater to the average IQ of 15 year olds.
BUT i still enjoy the atmosphere of the game and I dont have to climb the ladder so the inconsistencies arent a big deal. im just more disappointed than anything. i wanted a more complete TCG experience and i see that bliz never wanted that for hearthstone. :(
Sometimes i wonder if the last 2 generations are really that genetically watered down and brain dead. Blizzard literally treats it's player base like people in the fifth grade.
Anyway, whatever people say about the new expansion is gonna be moot until 2 weeks after the actual release. So take it with a pinch of salt, or treat it as if u are watching a circus freak show.
because it adds more completely bullsh*t 100% RNG cards that brings the game even further away from being competitive.
I really don't understand what people mean by it. From all of the cards that have been revealed(19 cards) only 5 have SOME kind of a random factor in them. This is a lot less RNG than what GvG had in it. And if 25% of the cards have some kind of random effect to them- it makes sense. It's hearthstone and it's a card game, what else to expect? :D
Nexus-Champion Saraad can give you any spell from the game, that means 200+ cards. Lock and Load can give you any hunter card. Yeah this is only SOME kind of rng.
Sorry people the randomness is what makes the game playable over a long period of time. No randomness = no fun. There is randomness that goes too far, but overall randomness is what makes it fun to play and exciting to watch. The argument that they should reduce the randomness to make it more competitive is invalid because it's a card game, it's innately based on the randomness of the cards that are drawn.
So you're saying a card game cannot be competitive ? lol.
I'm perfectly fine with the randomness of the card draw, as you said it is a card game. But in HearthStone every second play you or your opponent make has a random effect that you can't control and that's ridiculous.
No hate here, quite on the opposite - I really love the new cards :) ! Simply expected more, like a new play mode, 2 vs 2, and disappointed about the new arena reward :( .

Like I said only 25% of the cards have some kind of random effect to them. Saraad and Lock and Load being the biggest RNG ones but it makes sense because it's hearthstone and Blizz has always said hearthstone is about fun and they want this to be a game where anything can happen. And actually RNG would also make it more competitive. Pro players would have to calculate how big of a change it is to draw a spell that deals at least 1demage. It's like poker- you never know what will come up BUT you can calculate the provability of your win and decide if it's worth it.
And in general I'd much rather play with RNG because if there wasn't enough of it, it would feel to 'rigid'.. Just the same 'grey' combos and the same 'grey' cards, no surprise, everything is calculated, everything is solid and everything is rigid.. no thanks. I'd rather play with RNG and get King Krush from both of my webspinners.
But it comes down to personal preference. I like RNG as it makes the game feel more 'free', more can happen and more will happen. Nothing is calculated and preset from the beginning. Dunno.. if there wasn't enough RNG in Hearthstone I provably wouldn't even play it tbh.

DO NOT compare HS to poker. In poker you know your opponent can have and ace in hand while thanks to the aforementioned Saraad your opponent can have ANY spell from measly Arcane missiles to Pyroblast. Don't talk sht that's something you can predict and play around. RNG makes HS more competitive? WHAT? Gaining a huge tempo boost just because when your Shredder traded with opponent's one spew Millhouse while his spew a Novice Engineer is competitive? Go play roulette and tell yourself it's competitive because you can calculate the odds in it...
Wow chill. I didn't say HS is like Poker I meant calculating the odds of getting 1 damage spell is like poker, never said anything else about that. Sorry for the confusion if I phrased it wrong. And IMO RNG can make HS more competitive because if you are good you can win against almost any RNG. The way I see it is that average player can play around a specific predetermined play while a good player can play against any play, predetermined or not. But hey that's just the way i see it, but you provably won't agree with my opinion so it's pointless discussion/argument. :D

I am a nostalgia victim, but in an Online CG, you NEED to have moar new cards. That's just common sense. Without new content, an Online CG will die in a matter of months.
Yeah sorry for this explosion. It's damn hot now where I live and it *can* make me a bit nervous :P
I play poker for over 5 years now and trust me there is nothing in common it has with HS (at least texas hold'em which I play).
Btw. could you explain / elaborate on your view that rng is more competitive? Because I just don't get it how can a good/bad roll of rng be competitive... Luck or lack of luck :) can be game-breaking (Shredder, UP, Crackle, Implosion etc.) and I just can't see the competitiveness in it. I totally agree that some rng is required for the game to not be dead boring (Sylvanas, Ragnaros, Nefarian) but too much of it will make HS a coin-flip like game with minimum (I'm not saying "none") skill required. Nowadays you can somehow predict what card Nefarian or Thoughsteal could have gotten your opponent but with Saraad this can be anything and you won't be prepared for it in any way. Classes are different (at that Blizz succeeded very well), their strategies too and the fact Hunter can't cast a Flamestrike is good. With this new add-on literally anything can happen to the point where you can be totally screwed not because opponent played well but simply because he rolled a great spell he wouldn't have any other meaning to ever obtain. UP is already bad and more people agree with this so what's the point of making a new card with "fukhueg" rng that *can* win you the game just by itself?
You can call it fun if that really makes you enjoy the game more and I understand that even though I think the exact opposite way but why you call it more competitive is beyond my imagination. :)
It's alright, just shows how passionate people are about the game :D Now I think it makes it more competitive when you are the one who plays saraad. It makes you think and calculate about the odds of getting some kind of a spell. Ofc when a new player plays it, they provably don't really care nor think about it, but a high level player provably does. Like in example you might have a way to deal with a dangerous minion, but it will cost you 2-3 cards this turn and it will take away all of your mana. But maybe you can just use your heropower and draw into a better answer when you have saraad out? That would make you calculate the odds of getting some kind of a better answer. And there's like 200 spells in HS, if you quickly add up all of the spells that is a better answer, you can calculate the odds of getting a better answer. If the odd is like 10%.. provably not worth it, but if it's 40% you might want to risk it etc. RNG makes you think about provability more. Many and I'd even say most hearthstone players don't calculate anything, they play whatever has the best 'value' but to be a really good player you need to think about the probabilities. This is why all/most pro-hearthstone players think about what the opponent has in their hand. They often calculate the provability, if the opponent has 20 cards left, the provability of drawing into the answer is small so the pro player might do the play, but if they have 10 cards left, the provability is too high, so they might just save the card for a better use. But all of that is on your turn, what about your opponent? Well your opponent can also think about the provability of what you drew and can make an assumption on what you drew. If they have been dropping small minions for a while and the opponent still hasn't used whatever they got from saraad, there's a higher change of it being a hard removal like assassinate. The opponent can also look at your mana crystals and see if you had like 3 unused mana crystals last turn. Now your opponent knows that you provably don't have a 3 mana card draw, like thought steal and arcane intellect.
Ofc there is this 'unlucky' part. But that's what comes with card games. But a player who calculates all of the odds always has a better change of winning than the player that doesn't. And that is why i think RNG can make it more competitive as it makes you think about probabilities more ;)

You are enjoying it? Wow how did you get it so fast? :P
@Sander - I'll make it short - yes it's a matter of preference. I don't mean to be mean :) but talking about calculating probabilities while sitting on 200+ options is... in my opinion quite pointless. If the pool was smaller (like the aforementioned poker where you have 52 cards minus 2 on your hand minus those on the table) it would make perfect sense but with the pool HS has it's (once again for me) like closing your eyes and throwing a dart in the general direction of the board. Nefarian's pool is like more or less 10 cards. Thoughtsteal is at best about 25 while this little bugger can get anything so, as UP, can win the game just by itself/luck and that's something I don't like.
Yep that defenitely, there are game winning cards that you can get via UP.

Don't really see much hate on it and the RNG seems fine, except for this guy:
Tuskarr Totemic is the only obvious stupid-good RNG guy so far. This guy also gets more dangerous as new totems come out so.. yeah probably not the smartest design decision. Like you play this and get the 3/4? Wtf is that stupid nonsense? Already hate him.
Just like shredders he can randomly give you some crazy RNG tempo boost. This is the kind of card they shouldn't make. RNG cards that generate card advantage are ok, but RNG cards that generate tempo ( or both ) are not ok. Bane of Doom = not ok. It generates random tempo. You get blood imp? You just lost 3 mana. You get Pit Lord? You just gained 4 mana. That's the kind of thing that makes the game dumber.
I haven't seen much hate, however why some may be upset is obvious. Every new expansion increases the gap between Ftp and people who buy tons of packs.
Get ready for this. The more new cards come out, the more people will complain. People will be mad that the meta changes too slow/fast, that it's too hard to get old/new cards, that the things they want buffed/nerfed aren't, that they don't like the theme of the content, etc.
For the next ten years, you'll see people saying that GvG was the best expansion, and it's all downhill after that.
This is the world we live in.
Some hard truth right there

I cannot disagree more. Randomness is what makes people stop playing this game. Overwhelming randomness = no fun.
