So, I was having this idea and wondered if anybody has been having something similar in mind. Just wanted to throw it out here:
In a few months, with Battlegrounds Duos, we'll see the first cooperative element added to the game, besides those 3 Tavern Brawls.
But who likes playing with silent strangers that make some questionable moves and quit the game suddenly, leaving you in the rain? Masochists, that's who! I'm a masochist (I got the platinum trophy for Final Fantasy XIII AND XV), but that's not the point right now.
What I thought is, why not have blind dates in Duos? Get in touch, start a call on Discord/Zoom/Skype/yourplatformofchoice, while you play Duos together: Actually cooperate, discuss your strategy and get to know some new people. Maybe some of them are not total shitbags even.
I actually think the game is decently suited for it. You have enough downtime between turns to chat, it is a casual enough game that you can get along with less experienced players (unlike LoL), there is enough RNG involved that you can laugh off horrible losses instead of blaming each other, it requires nobody to have this or that card in their collection.
One game lasts about 20-30 minutes, which is just long enough to get to know someone, and short enough that nobody will overstay their welcome. Anything goes, feel free to have another game together if you want. Feel free to block anyone you don't like.
I don't think this will be the place you find your significant other/new BFF, but maybe it's enough to give you a better evening experience than cursing at the screen because none of your minions ever hit that Rivendare.
If they enable a faster exchange of contact info it might actually be a popular option, since discussing your strategy arguably get a lot faster and more accurate :)
They could actually try to make a deal with Discord, where they enable you to have your account name/contact visible to your Bgs partner for a swift connection

Imagining that such a deal is not even planned, I would suggest boards such as this or reddit (or a dedicated discord channel) as a place for meeting and exchange of contact info, similar to the idea of finding a partner for the "play a friend"-quest.
Since the purpose is social activity and/or coordinated playing rather than a business agreement (getting a quest done), I think a more curated form might be a good idea, such as: Provide your info to a trustworthy channel, through which you get partners offered, ideally other members, so there is some control over who and how many people can approach you.
I personally care less about who I do some quest with than who I hang out with on Discord for half an hour, and I'd like to have some system of accountability, where I can trust the person I end up talking to is someone who is in some way inclined to behave themselves, at the very least getting kicked out out the community in case of misbehaviour.
Theoretically, you could also just add whoever you play with to your friends list in the game, but that seems far less appealing to me. You have no idea whatsoever who you get paired with, the person might not feel like chatting or cooperating (yes, even in co-op games there are plenty of them), and it's less convenient to exchange info and meet up in a different app while the game is already running than meet up first and start the game together.
