Hi, I came back to HS after a 4 years break and I'm about to hit gold by using a free hunter deck the game gave me.
I got 2500g to spend but theres so much stuff now I'm lost on what's the best to spend it on.
Should I just build the last expension packs? Is there a new one comming soon? Is it better to buy these "structure decks" for 2k golds? Are the mercenaries packs noob bait?
Also I usualy only play rogue so I mostly just craft my cards by sacrificing other classes cards.
Set rotation is happening in less than a month, which is relevant because cards from the Forged in the Barrens, United in Stormwind, and Fractured in Alterac Valley sets will be rotating. As a result, it is a good idea to avoid buying packs for those sets and hold onto Standard packs until after the rotation.
With that in mind, these are the things right now for Standard:
Card packs for Voyage to the Sunken City, Murder at Castle Nathria, and March of the Lich King: The first 10 packs of any set are guaranteed to contain a Legendary card, and it does the best job of building your collection.
One of the mini-sets. These give you less cards total (a full playset for 35-38 cards), but that includes 4 fixed Legendaries for 2000 gold, a good deal but kinda bad at bolstering your collection.
The Path of Arthas mini-set. The same price as a mini-set (2000 gold) and it gives you a full playset for 30 cards (including 3 Legendaries), all for one class (Death Knight). Only buy this if you're interested in playing Death Knight.
Mercenaries packs are for a separate mode and should not be purchased if you're only interested in Constructed.
If you want to build with Rogue in mind, I'll suggest Murder at Castle Nathria or March of the Lich King packs. Both of those sets contain great Rogue cards in the form of Concoctions and Miracle packages, which go great together. The mini-sets don't really give Rogue anything that special.
I'd suggest going on hsreplay and/or viewing some YT clips of a deck you're interested in. I used to love to play Rogue but the only good current builds (that is if you don't want building a deck yourself which may be tough since you've not been keeping up with the meta) are pretty boring to me. In general, I'd say it's up to preference whether you like aggro/tempo/combo decks. I'd say it's more important than class since there are fewer competitive archetypes for each class than in the past (my opinion only)
That being said - rotation is coming so the meta will probably shift

Don’t buy packs. That’s how Blizzard gets you.
play wild mode and arenas. Arena gives you a free pack no matter what.
F2P is the way. my 2 cents.
Run as far as you can
Wait for the rotation, they might change their model based on surveys

I see thanks for the big reply.
I didn't know that each set give you a garanteed legendary after 10 packs and that the next rotation is comming soon (I though it was in february).
I'll get 10 packs of Castle Nathria and 10 of March of the Lich King I guess.
