This is probably an unpopular opinion, but Guff, Kazakusan and Druid are fine. Druid is so strong right now because the traditional control archetypes of priest, warlock, warrior and shaman are missing pieces to control the board. Each one of those classes have decks that can steamroll Druid, but they can’t compete with aggro DH, pirate warrior and mech mage, which should be easy wins for them, except they don’t have enough good and cheap board control. Therefore, board flood archetypes are being pushed and have no punishment for overextending from control archetypes and thus Druid is reigning because the board flood decks hit a double Ivus sized wall and all the armor that comes with it. HS at its best is usually a bit of a Rock Paper Scissors meta, and right now, the paper has a huge hole in it. This “problem” has an easy solution, more cards. We are feeling it more than ever because of core and set rotation. The mini set will be out sooner than other mini sets followed expansions, if the gryphon track can be used as a marker. If there are hysteria and bladestorm replacements or payoffs for warlock that aren’t curses or demon seed, the problem will sort itself out.
What are the win conditions (without Kazakusan) for Control Priest/Warrior/Shaman/Warlock even if they can counter the Aggro decks assuming they have enough AoE tools by then to survive?
Priest is shellfish xyrella, warrior can run galvangar but Kazakusan works best for warrior, shaman can OTK with bioluminescence, warlock needs better wincons than curses but even curses would work fine. The main issue for priest and warrior is AoE or clears, warlock and shaman could use better heals more than anything else. I’m not sure where they were going with curses, but warlock always scares me when there is a control vacuum.
The games vs Druid are boring me if you didnt play aggro and manage to finish the game in turn 6 you will lose, and if you try to play control kazakus is trolling you all day long. the expansion is really nice but druid is killing the fun at the moment :p maybe they should nerf guff or moonlight guidiance ,... or both
I really think the "druid problem" is being overblown here and there's just one card breaking it all: Guff. You talk about the consistency and draw power of druid, which wouldn't be a problem if they still had 10 mana left over once they drew those 3 cards a turn. It's fine if a class is good at something, they all have to have their strengths. This one card alone just breaks game mechanics, of course anyone with a possible 20 mana each turn is going to do stupid things every turn that every class would dream of being able to do. Miracle Growth is a good card, but imagine if you only had 3 more mana to use on the same turn. That'd be your whole turn and by today's standards it wouldn't be unfair at all. Same with Scale of Onyxia, these cards are hardly insane on their own, but the fact that druid can essentially take two turns for your one turn because of one hero card makes it feel outrageous. Without guff, druid's power level would fall so much and into the same power level as others because the class would have to play by everyone else's rules. Just remove the 20 mana set on the battlecry, make his second hero power option gain 3 armor or something. Heck, make him 4 mana if you want, but the 20 mana needs to stop.
I do think Oracle of Elune should be changed to only copy cards that originally were 2 or less mana, it's a little silly that the card currently reads "Battlecry: Summon an 8/8". Ivus wouldn't be nearly as insurmountable when he takes up 7 mana instead of, ya know, 17.
