Tempo mage, baku hunter and similar largely play like they always have, and I don't understand the appeal at all.
I mean, yeah it's an effective way to gain ranks but you honestly can't find the decks fun, not when they play the exact same way they have for ages.
Why do people play these aggressive decks instead of experimenting and having fun in the beginning of an expansion, hell even a yearly rotation?
It's not that I lose against them as Arugal mage and my self-made shaman deck crushes them, I just don't see the appeal in playing something that's been around for many years. Do these people even think the game is fun any longer, or do they just see it as a job to reach highest rank possible, and nothing else matters?
You pretty much hit the nail on the head with 'a job to reach the highest rank.'
These players will play ancient or new decks, or even craft the Naga Sea Witches they disenchanted if they think it will win games. And some will opt for quicker decks as if they want to get it over with as soon as possible and get their gold before they can go do something else.
you do undrstand that fun is a personal thing any one can have thier own way of having fun in other words what ever you consdire to be fun is not relvent to any one else
and what makes you think they dont experiment with what they have sorry to blow your buble most players who are free to play cant just get any card they want so they build what they can that can win some games which then gives them more gold in this case odd decks
I got baku in my 30 packs I opened, so I play baku hunter and wait to see what is worth crafting. Majority of playerbase simply doesn't have cards for experimenting.
Fun is a subjective quality and unless you are in personal contact with each of them; then you have no idea if they find it fun.
Second: You probably met them in ranked. Ranked is about winning and climbing as high as possible when faced against players who will also do everything in their power to win. There are other options if you’re looking for a more casual environment.
People like to win, no matter what. I find those olds decks boring and love to experiment new ideas when a new expansion comes out, but homebrews and quirky new decks usually win less. People will always gravitate towards the top tier ones.
Threads like this bug me, because we get them constantly even when it's not the start of an expansion. Different people find different things fun, some people (myself included) like to play optimised, min-maxing, we get enjoyment from playing the best decks and winning at the highest % possible. Some people don't. Personally I don't particularly like deck building, it's each to their own.

If you REALLY want to understand and not just rant:
You sound like a Johnny or a Timmy, depending on what you find fun. Those people you talk about are Spikes. Spikes like winning. They don't find it boring to play the same deck over and over. They dont' mind playing netdecks. They find their fun perfecting their play with that deck and reaching top ranks.
They aren't giving up their fun to do this. That IS their fun.
It doesn't have to be YOUR fun. Let the Spikes enjoy the game. You play your way.
I play non-Cube control Lock with only 5 WW cards because I legitimately find it to be the most enjoyable deck to play with right now. Some people like the older playstyles more than the new, go figure.

There hasn't been true Face Hunter for ages, and the same could be argued for Face decks in general (except maybe PW). There have been plenty of Aggro decks, even Mid Hunter is quite close to Aggro, but Face Hunter died with Leper Gnome. I'm kind of happy it's making something of a comeback, it's even easier to counter than board-focused Tempo-Aggro.
I agree though that I can't imagine it being interesting to play.

Somethings are just worth fighting for.

One does not simply walk into Mordor,
unless they want to be the best they can be.
