Playing it for about 6 weeks, mainly as hunter, and i have seen alot of win and losses streak. From what i understand you need hundreads of games to reach rank 5-1 even with good decks (60%). So gettting up in the ranks is more about grinding then anything else right?
Whatever people say you can't do it one afternoon even if you look at the pro players. People just have trouble admitting they grind to climb ranks, it's not talent that automatically get you rank 5+.
If you have a consistent win-streak to 5 it goes fast, but even greater players and decks lose to RNG, so it also depends on your luck. A hundred or even more games doesn't sound far-fetched to me, especially if you're learning a new deck.
Since nobody else shared any actually stats I thought I'd post mine, even if they aren't that representative as especially in the past I used to play wacky decks at the start of the season, which slowed my progress through the ranks. Haven't given that habit entirely and play way too many decks for fast climbing, it's much more beneficial to stick to one that works. I'd expect to start reaching rank 5 faster after I reach my target of hitting 500 wins with all classes on the same day. (Should happen this month.)

The stats are from deck tracker, so games played on Ipad or without the tracker aren't shown. But in general I try to play all my standard games with the tracker, so the numbers shouldn't be much worse. (Left S29 out because a good chunk of that season is not on the tracker and prior to that I never hit rank 5 nor used a tracker.)
In wild I have much faster climbs, thanks to starting the climb later in the month, but wild is my casual, so I play that on the ipad too, so can't publish stats for it. You can definitely shave a lot of games from my records, by playing just a couple of decks and not screwing around. Last season is a good example: I was very close to setting my own record in climbing to rank 5 as I was rank 6 on the 6th day of the month, but changing decks and tilt that followed made the climb much longer then it should have been.
Also being better then me helps a great deal, if you want to minimize the games to climb to rank 5 then starting the climb late in the month, helps a great deal. Personally I've always found wild easier all though the recent Wild tournaments and meta snapshots seem to have made Wild a bit more difficult then it used to be. It might actually require playing a decent deck there to climb reliably instead of whatever you fancy.
Based on my numbers I'd 100-150 games should be reasonable target, any less requires a very good win rate (60%+) or a nice win streak or two. It's certainly doable and many do it each season, but they are experienced players who most likely have done it multiple times.
Nice stats.
To resume : first rank 5 should be around 200 games, 150 for average and 100- for pro players
as long as you play slowly. Trying to climb hard on the first few days of the season can screw the total
Don't have an exhaustive history going back--last month for me was 128 games at a 60% wr or thereabouts. Maybe could have gone faster, as I had two decks with > 70% winrate over that span, but I tend to screw around at rank floors. Also this was 6/1-6/22, so some of those wr's are a bit inflated by the competition not being as tough in week 3 from 10-5 as it is earlier in the month.
My goal every month is rank 5. I seldom play as many as 250 games, and usually get there with a week to spare or so.
Depends on what time of season you are climbing. If you just spam games at the end of the season with a meta deck you should hit it relatively fast. If you play a lot early and slow grind games throughout the season usually takes more. Many people figured this out and don't even start the grind until halfway or more into the season. Inflation helps
I always like to see it in hours, and honestly if you have a good deck, it's a good amount of days into the season and you're a decent player it takes a few hours to grind from 15-5. The real grind comes after that because for me it takes like 4 afternoons to get from 5 to legend.
You actually need to do some maths: From rank 20 to rank 5 there are 14 ranks., 5 (20-16) with 3 stars, 5 (15-11) with 4, and then 4 (10-6) with 5.
Thats 55 stars you need to progess though (assuming you start the season at rank 20). With 60% win rate, basically thats means for every 100 games, you win 60 and lose 40, so a progress of 20 stars. So in theory, thats 275 games to gain those 55 stars. That would be assuming the win/loss breaks are smooth.
That doesn't take into account any bonus stars, but it's possible to have a 60% win rate and not gain any, so lets be generous, and say 15 bonus stars from good 'runs', that reduces it to 40 stars from wins, so still 200 games.
If you can push it to a 70% win rate, then for every 100 games you get a net gain of 40, and probably more bonus stars. So you can do with probably about 100 games, even less if you start at 15/16 etc etc.
The absolute minimum with 100% winrate would be about 26/27 starting from rank 20, from rank 15, it's about 20.

Lies. It tales a great deck and skill, then wins will come; Ive got there a few times with around 60 games...
Getting to rank 5 definitely doesn't take hundreds. Rank 5- legend it depends

I play about 150 games per month. Finish at or very near rank 5 every month. Never hit legend. 5 to 1 feels like it takes a ton of hours...
Anger is the punishment we give ourselves for someone else's mistake.

speed, momentum, violence
I takes me around 120-150 games to reach rank 5.
Edit: i always start climbing from the very beginning of the season.
There is a very good Reddit post about this topic!
