I saved all my gold after Karazhan and bought about 60 MSoG packs, which I felt was a good number. So I started saving gold again after MSoG to do the same thing with Un'Goro. Right now, I'm just under 6000, so I'm right on track for the 60 packs (plus whatever freebies we get). I'm also sitting on about 1600 dust right now, and that's not including the HoF dust (so that's another 3200+), plus I'll dust any goldens/duplicates/garbage I get from JtUG, which should be between 1600-3200 dust (if my results from MSoG are any indication). Between the 60 packs and the resulting dust, I should be able to open/craft all the relevant cards from this expansion.
I don't understand why people keep saying this game is getting "more expensive" with 3 expacks each year. Four months is plenty of time to save up between expansions and open a respectable number of packs on release day.
Well, I have been saving for the expansion, got about 6600 gold now and an additional 11.000 dust I've been sitting on for a while now. Add that golden azure drake I got, plus Sylvanas and Ragnaros, and I should have enough to craft what I don't get.
Because all cards in one deck are from a single expansion?
I was pretty happy with my 40 MSoG packs to release and the 20-25 packs in the weeks after. And now I'm at around 3500 gold which means I will get 40-45 packs at the release of Un'Goro. And then there is still the dust I can use to craft the cards for the decks I want to play. And those decks aren't even meta decks but I still manage to get around rank 6 with them so it's totally fine.

That's because you think 60 packs are enough. I'd argue 60 packs are not even enough for 1 deck unless you dust every single card you don't use in that deck.
"Enough" is a really subjective thing, though. Is 60 packs "enough" to complete your collection? Hell no. Is it "Enough" to play a couple of competitive decks? Yeah, if you're smart with your dust.
For me, I am fairly casual. I only play for an hour or two per day, I aim for rank 15-10 each month, and I tend to focus on 1 or 2 decks that I actually enjoy playing. So 60 packs is "enough" for me. If you are hoping to build the top 5 meta decks, and want to participate in tournaments, and are aiming for Legendary each month, and want to be able to throw together any meme deck that your favorite Streamer showcases... then yeah, you're gonna be disappointed with just 60 packs. If your expectations are that high, then you absolutely have to spend money on the game.
But I have a feeling that a lot more players are in the "casual, 1-2 hours per day, rank 15" crowd than the "pro, 6-8 hours per day, top 50 Legend" crowd. 60 packs is good enough for casual play. I don't even want to think about how many packs are needed for the other... I know that many popular streamers end up buying somewhere in the 500-1000 pack range. That's insane.
I got enough for 30 packs. With the Hall of Fame rotations I'll also have enough dust for two of the quests. The main quest I'm hunting for is the Hunter one.
I'm currently at 3k should be able to get 3.5k by release so 35 packs plus all the free ones should help get most of what I need.

A little less in coin than I'd like, but the bonus dust from the HoF legendaries should help me out a bit.
