The title in and of itself is something I thought I would never have to write, but Pirates have ruined Hearthstone for both Standard and Wild formats in less than a week after release. The problem in Standard is self evident, but after moving to Wild in disgust the problem carried over as Pirate decks gained Ship's Cannon and became a consistent T5 aggro deck with free board control. They are faster than Face Hunter ever was and have more board control than Tempo mages does, and at this point I don't understand why Blizzard bothered to nerf Arcane Golem, Leper Gnome and Abusive Sergeant only to print Patches the Pirate, which makes any 1 or 2 drop Pirate automatically the strongest on curve drop in the game and activates Ship's Cannon twice for a free board clear? Other aggro decks can't compete at all, because Pirate either goes straight to face and wins or gets total board control by turn 3. Games are decided by Turn 5, so the only playable control deck in Standard can't have a consistent win rate vs aggro because it's a turn before Reno Jackson can be played to prolongue the game. You can tech Acidic Swamp Ooze and Toxic Sewer Ooze and hard mulligan for Reno Jackson and still just lose the game to face, face, face because there isn't enough spot removal in the game after rotation to deal with snowballing threats like Frother Berserker - and even in Wild it's problematic. Molten Giant, which existed to punish race to face strategies in control, was nerfed for no reason while Arcane Giant and Thing from Below were printed for combo and midrange and Control Warrior is no longer an option now thanks to the Jade mechanic. What's the point of laddering with control before rank 5, and let's be honest before Legened, when Pirate warrior gives you free wins off a bad mulligan and Jade TKO's any control deck regardless? What's the point of fighting for board control when Pirates get to Rusty Hook, Patches the Pirate and then Upgrade for a lock out? Not even T6 Rogue was as fast as the metagame is now, not even Flamewaker takes board control so decisively ... this shit is insane, Weapons have finally been broken as super mana, tempo efficient face damage, Frothing Berserker gets to come along for the ride and the average game is finished in 2 minutes - that's faster than pre Leeroy Jenkins nerf T6 Rogue.
Can some one explain to me how Pirates fits into Blizzard's design philosophy and how there's any continuity with the nerfs? Because all they seem to have done is nerf aggro for non weapon classes and moved cost reduction mechanics away from control to other archetypes and then print a silver bullet in Jade for the entire archetype. I just don't get it, is this what Blizzard wants for the game?
Probably not I know pirate is extremely depressing to be against. It is same for a lot of people and i guess at the end of the day the point is if its annoying just play it if you want to do well. They nerf aggro because its too 'OP' but the problem is if they nerf weapon decks for aggro it means no aggro decks are ever going to be in meta. If there wasn't pirate then there is jade golems which isn't much better cause its just as cancerous. I know these make up most of the meta cause it like 4 classes ( warrior, druid, rogue and shaman) but there is quite a lot of reno as well. These usually counter aggro really well as long as you draw reno at beginning and you survive to turn 6.
This usually happens after every expansion so just wait for it to clam down a bit. MSoG has only been out for less than 10 days so give it time. Nothing will ever be perfect and I've seen my fair share of meta changes since I've been playing 2 and a bit years. It used to be full aggro then change to midrange. Now its in this mid to late meta with the exception of 1(or 2) decks- Pirate warrior (/rogue). Blizzard has got to make something happen and its actually been like this for ages. I know its unfair cause now combos are ridiculous but I guess its just more rewarding for people that can draw combos nowadays. Thing is if Blizzard does other changes people complain as well so whatever happens noone will be happy. Just the game.

Nice wall of text. That thing is beautiful. I almost feel bad for not reading it.
Blizzard will always try but it will take a while. Obviously extremely broken but probably Blizzard trying new things out. Problem is this happens everytime and it Hearthstone. Its like face hunter days or even when grim patron otk. Obviously these are nothing like pirate but still during these times people still got through them so just wait it out and surely there'll be an answer to these pesky pirate decks. It has definitely changed Hearthstone but you can still see so many people get to legend or high ranks using reno or other decks except pirate or jade. So i guess its gonna be luck but these unfair things always happen.
These aggros decks (pirates in this case) are very easy to counteract, I do not know why so much crying in the community.
Agreed. After playing Pirate Warrior, it is dependent on the draw and with limited to zero card draw, you rely on the strength of the deck. I have seen Aggro Pirate Rogue and Aggro/Hybrid Shaman beat Pirate Warrior. Plus taunt, heal and AoE effectively counteract the deck. I lost to a Control Reno Dragon Priest after they taunted/healed in excess of 100 additional health by turn 10. Like any HS deck, there is a lot of RNG involved in card draw and knowing how to play it correctly.
People are "salty" about aggro just because 2k dust decks can compete and beat 14k dust decks. Aggro is necessary in the meta and easily counterable but players preffer to get the maximum value of their cards, keep it on hand and play their "greedy combos" instead of use their resources to clean cards like N'Zoth's First Mate loosing some value.
I understand that people complain about Mid-Range Shaman who owns the early, mid and late game and can't be easily countered but complaining against Pirate Warrior or just "Aggro Decks"... Maybe aggro is "Braindead only face" but I think that is more braindead not knowing how to play against aggro...
Renolock is the strongest deck however, you lose if you dont draw reno quickly, because Pirate Warrior usually wins around turn 5-7 with a decent draw.

I could care less about the value of a deck, its just that the Aggro play-style takes the fun out of the game, because it doesn't take as much skill/decision making as playing a Combo or Control Deck.
Winning with an Aggro deck doesn't give you the satisfaction of knowing you outplayed your opponent, and losing to an aggro deck makes you feel like your skill didn't play a factor in the outcome of the match.
It might sound radical, but have you tried playing taunts?
Taunts are cards that have absolutely no synergy with a deck, outside of Taunt Warrior. So Typically you would only add 2 Taunts into a deck, maybe 4, so that you can maintain synergy with the purpose/objective of your deck and consistency.
However, The chances of you drawing and playing a Taunt before Pirate Warrior kills you in 5 turns is low. And even if you do it may only buy you a turn at best. Its a low risk low reward option.
Step 2:Instant mute(for some reason they do everything in their power to become hated)
Step 3:Play reaaaally slowly. Not only you negate what they wish(a fast easy win)but you will see that the obvious play is most of times NOT the most optimal.
Step 4: Always bm before you leathal them.If you make them titled then the poor soul that will face them next will have better chances of winning them.
With that being said if pirate warrior was the only deck you faced then would be easy to make a counter deck. But if you counter the face decks then you instant lose against the reno and the jade so the meta is quite diverse :)
literally turn 5 or 6 death without a perfect draw. like you can put up a fight but it doesn't matter....only way to win is to tech specifically AND draw well. what a stupid meta
not just pirates, but jades are also the one to blame there isn't more control decks (if you don't count here or there some reno deck)...yes, control deck can been jade, but winrate isn't good...there will always be some terrible aggro, in every meta, but jades are more of a problem now from my point of view

Play Renolock man. Pirate Warrior decks are easy to beat if you play wisely.

Obviously Blizzard nerfs the cards everyone has, so that we need to invest in new cards that no one had. Pure dirty business.

I tried it. Was well impressed with the results.

How to counter pirate warrior:
