So for the first time I'm at rank 1 and trying to push for legend :) I've been playing for two years and decided this was the month to grind it out.
I got to rank one fairly quickly, but now I'm really struggling. I've been stuck in the rank for about 5 hours :/
For those players how have reached legend, do you have any advice or decks you think might be good to make this final push? I'm terrified I won't make it to legend as I don't normally have the time to play this much.
Do you think there is a time of day where I might have the most success? My really good run was in the early afternoon on Sunday. Wondering if that at all matters.
Well I was playing Malydruid, but hit a wall at 5. Then I started playing midrange shaman (one bloodlust, no kobolds) due to its high win stats. I streaked with 2 losses to rank 1. Now I'm totally stuck getting beaten by mages who burn me down to quickly.
Thinking about switching to tempo mage to finish the climb.
I'm an American (living in the US) playing on the EU (was living in London at the time). When I play at my night I'm usually playing really, really hardcore players who are up until like 3 am.
Honestly I'd love to do it just to say I have and get the card back. I usually finish around rank 12 lol
Track your games. It can feel like you're going nowhere if you're bouncing around a rank, but so long as you're in the positive on Winrate you just need to keep grinding.
If you lose more than 2 in a row take a break. If you win more than 2 in a row keep playing. The local meta shift can put you in a really good spot, and you need to capitalise on it.
The first time I hit legend I was bouncing around Rank 3 over and over, noticed I was facing a bunch of Secret Pallys and zero priests so switched to Face Hunter and went 17-2 to legend. Knowing what to play when the meta demands it is just as good as playing one deck well.
Don't switch decks - shaman is far and away the best class right now. Just swap a couple tech cards. If you are seeing a lot of tempo mages, that bloodlust won't help you. Try swapping that out for a Kobald ( allows you to kill most of their minions with portal). Also, you may consider swapping out a fire elemental for a horserider. If you are really seeing a lot of aggro, you could swap in a healing wave, but that will hurt you in other matchups.

I mostly play after breakfast, and after dinner. My morning win-rate is about 3% better than my evening win-rate. Since I started tracking my games about a year ago, my six longest win-streaks have all occurred while eating eggs, drinking coffee, and munching on toast. Chicken, beef or pork, with potatoes and a side of veggies have all produced nothing better than a single six-game win-streak for the past year. It might be the food, but I suspect your observation is more likely. They discussed this matter on the Angry Chicken podcast a few months ago - late night seems to be the worst time for optimizing win-rates, while late morning/early afternoon and weekends are likely best.
Hey guys, i know this is not related to this thread but im new at hearthpwn and i just cant find the way to post a thread, would any of you be so kind to help me with it please?
I'd second the advice to stick with your deck (shaman is just so strong right now) and to track your meta. Knowing your meta will allow you to fine tune your decklist with the correct techs (for example, last month I reached legend on the last day of the month, 14 of my last 30 games were against shaman, it is then worth it to put 2 LS in the deck, while the rest of the season I was playing against a wide variety of decks, with warriors being the number 1 class, so I would run only 1 LS).
Win rate is calculated after the fact. It's more like if you get there then your win rate was over 50% for that season.
What? Winrate is calculated after every single game. If you're losing more than you're winning the percentage goes down, if you're winning it goes up and if you win as much as you lose the winrate stays the same. If you're at rank 1 and your winrate isn't declining (and is at least over 50%) you will reach legend sooner or later.
About this part, how do you know your win rate isn't declining until after? Your winrate now says nothing about your future games, you can still fail.
A declining winrate isn't a sudden thing. Assuming you have a decent sample size from playing up to rank 1, you'll have a clear indication when your rate is starting to wind down and getting closer to (or possibly even below) 50. If you play 20 games at rank 1 and your winrate isn't changing (and is above 50%) you're in an upward trend.
The only true part about your previous statement is that if you do make it to legend, it's safe to assume your winrate was higher than 50%. Your winrate up to that point however is a fine indication if you're going to get there though, if at all.
Well I was just saying that it's not certain, you can have a 51% winrate up till now and then hit a brick wall so even though it's likely in your eyes, you can't say that you definitely will. You can't say winrate isn't changing in the present tense, it's worked out after the fact.
What does matter is the skill of the players you face, as more and more players filter into legend it gets easier for you.

That's really good advice. Thanks, Aneng :)
I was thinking that was the weak card in my deck. I'm always hoping to role spell damage totem so the switch makes sense.
