BGH absolutely wasn't played before Dr. Boom, at least not to its current extent. Before GVG, it was used mostly in Paladin and Druid to make up for the lack of single-target removal. It was also sometimes used to counter handlocks, and that was it. But, thanks mostly to the good doctor, he's going into more and more decks. Once Dr. Boom gets nerfed, BGH will stop being guaranteed value and will drop off of a lot of these lists.
how are you even sure that boom will get nerfed? and also no. BGH was used before Boom for stuff like rag and giants and if Boom nerf happens the next best similar card is ragnaros so BGH will stay popular (mostly as 1x)
BGH will still be strong after Dr. Boom nerf no doubt, but the poll is asking if it will lose popularity. Yes, it most certainly will. People put it in every deck to counter Dr. Boom being in every deck. I have no doubt that Big Game Hunter will be taken out of a lot of decks after Dr. Boom's hopefully imminent nerf. There will be a lot more cards introduced from BRM too that will make deck slots more cramped for space. It's hard to say for sure it will lose that much popularity, but I'm going to say it will.
As the card pool expands and more good 7-drops appear, especially 7-drops that work well with particular types of decks, we're going to see less and less of Dr. Boom (and when we see him, it'll be mostly in classes that synergize particularly well with him, like druid and shaman). Think about poor ol' Cairne Bloodhoof—before Naxx, many people used to consider him the second-best card in the game (after Sylvanas). Now nobody plays him at all.
BGH, on the other hand, if he doesn't get nerfed, is going to continue to ruin minions with 7+ attack until the end of time. The more strong big minions they add in future expansions, the more necessary he'll become. Dr. Boom may be a little overtuned, but BGH is fundamentally bad design and warps deckbuilding in a really nasty way.

Really big difference there. BGH was popular, when ever Handlock was popular, anyone remember one of the last big tournaments pre-gvg? Firebat ran 2 BGHs + Panda to bounce them.
There were just not as many BGH targets out there. Imagine a world were every Boom would be changed to a Rag. Everyone would still play BGH. As long as the meta contains 51%+ decks with one or more 7+ attack minion BGH will be played.
BGH did see play before but was undervalued for a long time. The only way to stop BGH being a thing is a meta in where no 7+ attack minions are played anymore and that's not going to happen.

I, for one, hope they don't nerf BGH. He only prevents these 7+ attack minions because he's ubiquitous, but he's only ubiquitous because he's guaranteed value. Once Dr. Balanced is nerfed, a lot of decks which run him (Druid, Shaman, Mage, Hunter) will drop off 7+ attack minions. At that point, there's some actual risk to playing BGH, and some of the heavier minions will return. But, without BGH, there'd be no risk to playing heavy minions. Giants, Rag, and even Gruul would be too good to not run. He's a great tech card, but there's just too many targets atm.
tldr; BGH would support counterplay if he wasn't everywhere.
Big Game Hunter will still be used even if Dr. Boom is nerfed because there are so many other big threats out there that the player who has BGH won't just say: "Oh, Dr. Boom's out of my range, I'll have to use something different..."

No, they'll say "I haven't seen any 7+ attack minions in a while, I guess I'll drop him". You know, like any other tech card.
That would only apply if they did nerf Dr. Boom and then proceed to not introduce a good 7+ attack minion ever again and thats exactly the problem with BGH because it is such a universal counter to a huge variety of cards and pretty much restricts the design of future cards just by existing.
Pretty much anything that serves as a target for BGH already has the inherent flaw of being a big and thus slow minion nearly everything that BGH could hit is placed at 7+ mana and most of the cards don't have any immediate impact on the board making the big investment of mana into on single card a problem.
And thats why there always was a "risk" in playing big minions and even in a world without BGH there always would be because of the fact that the majority of classes have access to hard removal and most of those hard removal options are significantly cheaper than any big minion you could put on the field.
Many of the new cards even the ones with interesting mechanics like Nefarian won't see play because there is such an easy and cheap, neutral removal option for the card and that is kinda sad. BGH definitely is a problem because it restricts the viability of other cards by concept but in the current state of the game we kinda need a card like that so it's an evil we've got to live with.
That logic only applies if the good 7+ attack card is so good that it must be run in every deck. The problem is that EVERYONE is running at least one 7+ attack minion. After all, Dr. Boom can still get crazy value even if the opponent has him in his sights. So everyone has to counter with BGH, which decreases the value of any other 7+ attack cards.
In terms of restricting the viability of other cards, all it means is that you have to play the meta. Just wait for the BGH hype to die down before adding Nefarian to your shaman deck.
Also, any nerf to BGH would disproportionately affect Druid & Paladin decks, who have to use him for hard removal.

It may drop off a lot of lists, but it was ABSOLUTELY played before Dr. Boom. It was played quite a bit. Control Warrior (and before that, Handlock) dominated the higher levels of the meta and you wouldn't really want to play against one without one of the most versatile "kill spells" in the game. The risk of having a shitty creature versus aggro but having an instant Ragnaros/Grommash/Giant removal against control has always been well worth it in seasoned players' decks.

Yes, but at that point it was just another tech card. If the meta shifted toward midrange decks like Shaman/Hunter, they'd drop it. BGH being used to this extent is rather new, and a direct result of Dr. Boom's popularity.
Of note as well is that it was never truly a dead card, so playing it wasn't that much of a downside. It was really quite terrible against the midrange decks of the time, but it was also a three drop that slow decks could play that traded with any version of Animal Companion, which was pretty important at the time.
I think not because there is a really good chance that dragons are going to work their way into ladder. In Paladin for sure and possibly in some of the other decks as well. Also the Emperor is allowing cards like Velen and Neptulon to see more play then before, both good BGH targets.
However you look at it, Big Game Hunter has one of the most potent abilities in Hearthstone. This card has a massive reputation which will haunt the community long after he loses his importance. That times arrival remains to be seen, but as long as Dr. Boom is dominating the meta, Big Game Hunter will be in your hand waiting to blow him away.

Will Big Game Hunter lose its popularity once Dr. Boom gets nerfed?
I don't think Dr Balanced will get nerfed. Blizzard will add counter cards.

I have no time for gains!
No.
Hopefully they nerf BGH, not Dr. Boom.

Dr. Balanced isn't getting nerfed, dickbutt.
if they nerf dr boom such that you cant kill it with BGH, its a buff...
My soul is painted like the wings on butterflies, the fairytales of yesterday will grow but never die. I can fly, my friends.
well blizzard said they have no plans for Dr.Boom so BGH will still be there
its more of a buff to dr boom if he cant be targeted by BGH(depending on the nerf though)
