There is no pity timer for golden legs, but a pity timer for legs and golden cards. They just very rarely overlap to give you a golden leg. The pity timer for legs is 40, but your number of 20 is the average number of packs until you get a legendary, not a pity timer

Oh, I see, thanks. I was just thinking if I should buy packs from rotated sets to get a gold leg, but if there's no pity timer - there's no point.
Ahhh, it would be easier if Blizzard simply added opened packs stats, but that probably would frighten people when they find out how much money they dumped into this game. Still, the current "Open packs" window with only "Open Shop" button could be more informative.

ACCCTUALLLY, we believe there IS a pity timer for golden legendaries, just like how there's pity timer's for the other rarities. The problem is that golden legendaries are so rare that it's hard to pin it down using statistics (which needs large samples)
Here is the stats according to the folks who did the research in the first place:
"
Epic: 10
Legendary: 40
Golden Common: 25
Golden Rare: 29*
Golden Epic: 137*
Golden Legendary: 310*
Note that this isn't an exact science. No one is able to look at the code, only pull data and gather statistics:
The first two we have seen more than enough evidence to show you can bet on this existing. Note that the one time it didn't happen caused a MASSIVE uproar in the community and was later proved by blizzard to be a bug. It's the exception that proves the rule.
The goldens are ...messier data wise. Those *'s mark that the folks who did the research didn't gain enough certainty to be 10000% sure but up to this point this is the maximum we've seen anyone go before opening that rarity. The Golden Rare one is actually pretty certain except that it just seems weird for Blizzard to just leave it at 29 and not just tweak it to a clean 30 (sidenote: a perfect sign of human mettling: humans love neat numbers and synergy, RNG doesn't give a F*#$). The Epic/Legendary they aren't SURE as to it being at that spot but that's what the data is showing so far.
Note that most people don't open 400 packs in any long period of time. If you are a F2Per or buying just the pre-order 300 packs is about 2 years between Golden legendaries.
Regular legendary pity timer is definitely not changed to 20. Where did you get such info?
Someone, I don't remember who, WRONGLY said on stream that there was a pity timer of 20 packs for Legendaries. I was surprised nobody in chat yelled at him, to be honest.
I've been waiting for a Golden Legendary for over 400 packs now, well over a year. But then again it wasn't from the same expansion packs, just total of packs...
And for Golden Epics, I haven't received a single Golden Epic in Frozen Throne in 122 packs, so if that is correct, I should be getting one soon.
I have been playing since april this year. I have used a dair bit of money on the game, as I have no self-control, and I have probably opened around 200 packs or so. The thing is, I think I have been incredibly lucky, since I have gotten 5 golden legendaries so far...
took me 2 years to pack a golden legendary and when i did pack it i got another in the next pack, shame they were both shit; golden don han cho and golden harambae
Same, two years, it was a warlock legendary, i dusted for plain doom... muh value...
I have been playing since blackrock mountain came out, my first golden legendary was Illidan last year september, since then i got like 4, in just about 6 months,
Golden Bolfam in november last year.
Golden Lore walker Cho and Krull the unchained in the legendary bug before Knights came out
Golden Warlock Death Knight the day Knights came in my 7 extra packs I bought after the preorder.
consider i bought most packs with gold (F2P) until preorder Knights and Ungoro + 7 packs 120$ expend .

Golden Legendaries aren't that big of a thing any more. It used to be that they provided insurance against finding a duplicate because in that case you could simply DE the golden one and craft what you wanted but now you can't open duplicates anyway.
opened my first one last week (bolvar. bleh, turned him into malganis) and I've been playing off and on since right before wing 2 of Blackrock came out.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
I'm here to kick ass and play cards, and I'm all out of ass.
I opened a Neptulon well over a year and a half ago. I don't think I'll ever dust it as it's so freaking cool to see it summon a whole bunch of golden murlocs! Still my one and only.
Why can't a HS developer tell us whether there is a pity timer for Golden cards or not? Or are they forbidden from doing so?
Because if they Blizzard did confirm it, there's an implied contract and if for any reason the pity timer didn't work properly (as has happened before and could happen again) they'd be opening themselves up to a lawsuit.
I've opened between 225-275 packs for every expansion. I've gotten exactly one golden legendary each time. Very often, it was in the last twenty or so packs, making me suspect that some sort of pity timer kicks in around then. Does anyone have any proof of going 300 packs without one?

One does not simply walk into Mordor,
unless they want to be the best they can be.

I usually buy about 300-400 packs per expansion and I get 1-2 golden legendaries.
I must be very unlucky then. I play since GVG and opened hundreds of packs but i dont gen any golden legendary

I kept a record of my Frozen Throne pack opening and I found no evidence that the Golden pity timers previously noted were inaccurate.
619 packs opened. Two Golden Legendaries. First was opened on the 287th pack. Second was opened on the 424th pack.
Ten Golden Epics - First one opened on 118th pack, longest interval after that was 112 packs.
41 Golden Rares - Longest interval between was 29 packs.
42 Golden commons - Longest interval between was 24 packs.
Same here. 3 years, 3 goldens. Didn't get my firat until un'goro though
