Do you guys have a preference? What are your thoughts on each and, if you did, what made you decide to choose one over the other?
Kinda want to see some thoughts on each card, because they're great as draw engines, but offer something a little different that fits better into one deck over another.
In general I prefer the novice engineer simply due to the fact that the loot hoarder can be killed way too easy by mages/rogues and druids. Sure it gets 2 damage out and the card draw. but I like to play buff heavy decks thus preferring tougher minions to stay alive until I can buff them :)
I share just about the same opinion, also, novice's effect is immediate and impossible to silence. The only issue is that novice is at a measly 1 attack. Sure, you can get around it with buffs, but many times loot hoarder puts pressure on the board and even trades up. Whenever a 2 health minion is dropped right after, I kinda wish I had loot hoarder out.
In my opinion, for both cards, the real reason we have them in our deck is the draw card ability. Damage dealing or tanking is just a side bonus, if we wanted that aspect we'd go for another card.
So for me, the card that better fills its draw card role is the Novice Engineer because you draw immediately whereas there's no saying when you'll be drawing with the Loot Hoarder, if you're going to draw at all (silence effects / minion stealing / etc.). Basically with the hoarder, your opponent has more control over when you'll draw. Until he allows you to draw, it's just a 2/1 with no perks.
I have no trouble running my loothoarder into the first minion I see, or failing that, the enemy Hero for 2. Since I WANT the loot hoarder to die a.s.a.p. I prefer to get a good trade out of him, so getting a 2/1 I can run into most 2 drops fro significant damage (at that mana level) AND a card is okay with me.
It's not like people will waste a silence on a loot hoarder normally, and even then it's a positive, I think, cause you just spent 2 mana and got someone to waste their silence. Same thing basically goes for them stealing him. I'm okay with that if it means my other minions are safe from it.
In any situation where I'd put either of them in my deck, I'd choose loot hoarder.

i dont think you should compare these cards. Becouse this cards for different kind of decks, loot horder obv. for offensive decks and novice engineer is slow defensive decks.
I like novice engineer more because you can deal with 2 paladin tokens and it doesn't die to druid/mage/rogue's 1 dmg. Also you get card draw immidiately so you can even use the card you draw the same turn. With loothoarder you need at least 1 turn at the least
I personally think that both cards are garbage. Sure, you can make a "card draw engine" out of the engineer but, generally speaking, there're much better options for card draw built into (almost) each class: Druid-Wrath; Mage-Arcane Intellect; Priest-Mind Vision/Thought Steal; Rogue-Shiv; Shaman-Mana Tide Totem; Warlock-Sense Demons; Warrior-Commanding Shout/Shield Block/Slam.
I understand that, depending on the Hero/deck concept, that cards like the Novice Engineer and Loot Hoarder can be useful but both have significant draw backs. Engineer is a sub-par creature for the chance to draw one card, so if you can't buff it immediately it's more/less useless beyond the initial card draw. Loot Hoarder is even worse because all any class has to do to neutralise it is silence it and if you're up against a priest all the priest has to do is use Shadow Madness on it and ram it into one of your other creatures not only neutralising it but also denying you the card draw as the card draw is local to the controller of the creature.
And honestly cards such as Acolyte of Pain, Northshire Cleric and Gadgetzan Auctioneer aren't much better. (They all can be easily dealt with without proccing a single card draw for you)
If you want card draw then look at cards such as the above as well as cards such as: Azure Drake, Harrison Jones and, in some cases, Coldlight Oracle. (Though the last mentioned card may take some experience to properly play as it has a huge draw back (giving your opponent 2 cards as well)) Otherwise I would simply reccomend focusing on balancing your deck for the early game in order to make it to the mid-late game where the better card draw cards are. :D
I feel that the novice engineer is better if you can buff it. You get the card draw and then it has around the same stats as a normal card for the cost. You buff it with a shattered sun cleric, then it becomes a 2/3, which can take out just about any other two drop.
Depends on the deck I guess. I like hoarder in my warrior deck because it plays nice with the minion that gives your creatures charge, allowing it to trade up every now and again. While I'll use novice in my rogue deck because the battlecry is nice to have along side Shadow Step and Youthful Brewmaster.
It's not really about that, It's more about a creature that replaces itself. Any other creature in the 2 drop slot you play, and now you have something on board but one less card in your hand. These cards help your board state without sacrificing card advantage.
What i dont understand about these cards are, that if you pick these cards for card draw, you more or less pick a card to try and get another card making your deck almost a 29 card-deck. I dont know if this is very well explained, but my point is; why not just pick a card that you really want on the board so you draw that initially instnead of drawing a card that will give you another try to draw a card you want.
The idea behind this is that you don't always NEED 30 different cards. Your deck may only need to be say 25-28 (random numbers please forgive) to do what you need it to do. You could fill those slots with other cards that may have some usefulness but what if instead of bloat you put in cards that allow you to burn down to your most desired and more useful cards faster. For example a mage deck based around spell damage may want to get to those pyroblasts and fireballs faster and more consistently instead of having simply more options. Forgive format and grammar posting from my phone.

This is why you want to "mill" your deck like in any ccg, you have an early game card that gives both presence and can help you draw the card you want. You have technically have a 2/30 chance of drawing a really good card you have two of. With card draw, you can reduce that number incredibly while having something to play early game and having a minion out. That's why cards like arcane intellect and lay on hands are awesome, you can mill through your deck AND draw more cards at the cost of a turn worth of mana. Edit: Sorry, hearthstone isn't a tcg it's a ccg

In most games you won't get through your deck, that's why you need these cards to pull through to your stronger cards. If you can get card draw and further utility out of these cards, all the better.
I believe that Novice Engineer is better for defensive decks while Loot Hoarder is better for agro decks or decks that can buff it up(ie power word shield or other things that can buff it up to make it more tankey. One thing Novice Engineer has that Loot Hoarder doesn't is late game possibilites. You can play Novice Engineer at the start of your turn to instantly get a card to be able to play that turn. Unless you have something that will give Loot Hoarder charge, you will not be able to get the card instantly to maybe change the outcome of the match.
As a turn 2 drop, loot hoarder is slightly better, as it can run into a 3/2 minions, or make your opponent waste his turn to get rid of it, thus letting you maintain momentum. Novice engineer is not too bad on turn 2 either, but it will not give you a 2 for 1 unless you buff it with SSC.
However, at any other point in the game, these two minions are both too weak to matter, and thus they are used only for card draw. Because of this, since you get the card immediately and have the opportunity to use it right away, engineer is better during mid-late game.
Overall, I believe novice engineer is slightly better than loot hoarder. that said I normally don't run either, because I feel card draw is abundant in other more efficient ways that allow you to still put down a threat on turn 2 to get momentum rolling

Definitely depends on the deck and opponent. I like engineer more just based on the instant card draw but they are both good in different situations.
I would pick Loot hoarder in a rush or heavy hero damage deck. Every other deck I'd choose Novice since you know what you are getting :)

If you're playing Mid-Game or Control, Novice > Hoarder
If you're playing Rush or Heavy Aggro, Hoarder > Novice
