Hey all - quick disclaimer: I know almost every post that mentions RNG being rigged there's the immediate 'confirmation bias' and 'gamblers folly' and 'random is random dude' responses. Know that I understand and sympathize… but...
I've been tracking my last 40 games as Priest (which I play primarily for fun in casual play, not so much in Ranked) and something pretty incredible seems to be manifesting. I'd post the spreadsheet but i'll spare you and sum it up thusly:
in 20 of those 40 games thoughtsteal pulled an opponent's Legendary. In exactly none of the games that DID NOT pull a legendary did the opponent top-deck a legendary after the Thoughtsteal play. What i'm trying to say is that it seems, based on the data, that if the opponent has a legendary waiting in his/her deck, thoughtsteal WILL pull it.
Anyone else notice the same? have evidence to refute? It probably is all just random - - - but given that we don't know what's going on under the hood, there may be something that prioritizes certain types of cards over others when Thoughtstealing.
I know what you mean, I had it a few times and actually tested it with my brother but it's not true :) I toughtsteal'd a Lorewalker Cho and he drew it 5 turns later.
Hah - perfect response. But to clarify, i think your second post proves my point (Which i realize now wasn't that clear). My theory is that Thoughtsteal will pull a legendary if the opponent has one in their deck. Since it's hard to prove if someone has it in their deck if a) you don't pull one from thoughtsteal and b) they never play one for the duration of the game the best I can do is ask if someone has used a thoughtsteal, pulled no legendary, and then at a future point in the game had a legendary played against them (that they can reasonably assume was drawn after the thoughtsteal play).
meh, not that it really matters, but now i'm using that same deck on the ladder, 5 games so far this morning, and each and every thoughtsteal has pulled a legendary (in this order: Rag, Leeroy, Sylvanas, The Beast ?, Illidan Stormrage).
I always am extremly lucky with my RNG too. Not only with toughtsteal and mindgames, but also with Mad Bombers and stuff. And maybe they are changing the RNG. We don't know, and we never will know :)
@JayLaw330 - this is exactly my experience as well. I always always pull poison against rogues…sometimes I pull a weapon too which always feels awesome :)
There's always someone who will try to argue against randomness. Random is random. Only game that isn't random is Mario kart. If you're losing you get better items.

Uhh... this is not disproving his point, actually you are confirming it lol
First of all only 40 games. Secondly you do not clarify what types of decks you are playing against and how many legendaries they have. If you always pull Legendaries then why do you "always" pull poison against Rogues that almost always run VanCleef and/or Thalnos? Oh what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive...
funny you should ask Zealot - and my theory for Rogues is this…if they have thalnos or vancleef they tend to keep it in their hand thus by the time i thoughtsteal it's not in the deck any longer. I have on occasion pulled a VanCleef (and also a poison..lol) But yeah, the data set isn't big enough which is why anyone else who wants to keep track would be cool. Honestly i'm just wondering if anyone has played a game where they didn't pull a legendary and there clearly was one in the opponents deck.
Again, who cares ultimately if there is something else in the RNG or not - thoughtsteal is a great card to play regardless, just now that there are so many higher ranked folks with more legendaries it's value (for me anyway) is through the roof atm.
I played priest for almost an entire month during the beta and do not remember pulling legendaries with anymore frequency than anything else. I personally think you are chasing windmills. Random number generating programs have been around only slightly longer than theories that they do not generate random numbers...

Random number generators don't actually generate random numbers. It's not a theory.

Yeah, but it is no blizz servers so I doubt it is exploitable.. The only way to exploit RNG against thoughtsteal is to hold all your legendaries in your hand, but then mind games....
I've mained Priest ever since I started playing the game, and I've never seemed to get Legendaries more than any other cards. I mean, it's nice when I do 'cause I don't own any (except Murk-Eye), but it doesn't happen that often. You're just luckier than me :C

As stated it is only not "random" if a person can exploit it. Go run off and put your tin foil hat on and sit in the corner if you like and keep deluding yourself into believing that the reason you are not successful is because everyone is out to get you.

it does seem like i pull legendaries a LOT. against rogue i ALWAYS pull poison though :(
@JayLaw330 - this is exactly my experience as well. I always always pull poison against rogues…sometimes I pull a weapon too which always feels awesome :)
I actually keep legendaries in my hand when I'm playing against a priest because their early game pressure is almost non-existant.
When thoughtsteal is used against me - the get all they want in the entire world. When I use it? Useless stuff. RNG is not my friend ^^

Funny that I discovered this thread when i thoughtstealed a Mukla from a Zoolock. One turn later it was Leeroy.
