I play arena as much as I possibly can, every time I get the gold and occasionally I toss in the 2$ if I'm feeling lucky that day. I've looked at guides on several different sites and even have this little exe that I enter the card choices into and it tells me their value but with all the reading I've done I still have only 3 arena wins max and that was just 1 time, most of the times I go with 1 or 2 and even occasionally 0.
I've looked at guide after guide, picked the most valuable cards seen good combo cards to play and made sure that I have everything I need in a good deck but end up getting wrecked every time. I've tried twitch but lately I've just been finding people that are discussing the new stuff instead of playing, playing regular games or are so far into arena that I'm lost when I join in.
Was anyone else like this? Did you turn it around? How? Did something just click? What was it? How did you find it? Please help, I'm tired of wasting money but I don't want to go back to just buying decks. Could someone point me in the right direction?
Which classes do you play with? I would recomend choosing Mage or Paladin whenever you can, that can help.
I try to play the higher teir classes as listed on different sites, sticking with mage as #1 but pally, lock or rogue as well.

Watch Trump's Trump Teachings and iDrafts if you haven't already.
There really helpful to learning how to play well and efficiently.
I've been watching video's all day and feel like I make mostly the same moves, I stopped a couple times and saw why their move was better than what I would have picked but for the most part I generally pick the same cards in draft and I make the same move about 80% of the time... I guess that 20% I don't is what costs me games.
I think my issues are revolving around not minding their clear spells and playing too many cards just because I can, and perhaps attacking face when I probably shouldn't.
So, at least I can work on that, should probably attempt to work on it in ranked matches rather than more arena matches so I don't waste money.
just because you know how to navigate to a site which tells you what cards to pick does not guarantee a good arena run. Arena takes a long time to learn, in the end you can watch a million streams and still not know how to play. Just playing the game is the quickest way to become familiar with it.
to be honest, when i started hearthstone, i did my basic and went on a 11-3 streak on my first arena. this was before i read guides on arena and i only did one arena... i havent done much arena on my account while i help my friends run their arenas..... most of them does okay with a 6-9 win streak.....
i think what helps me the most is that i came from a background of playing other card games so it taught me to be patient and not spam everything at once while drafting. always try to guess what your opponent is holding is a tough skill to train, and often times knowing whats good in what format helps and have you prepare for worse case scenarios. its more about thinking ahead in all honesty.
whenever i have a removal in hand, i always think about, what can i kill with it, and what's the possible thing that can happen when i play it to kill something now.... and can i possibly deal with it later..... and do i need to kill everything in front of me..... its the decision making between board control vs face.
Hey Man (Author), I would suggest to watch streamers play arena and analyze what you are doing differently. You can watch their vods and pause after each play. Then you think about what moves you would make, un pause and see if the streamer does the same. if not, then why didn't they?
I'm thinking its more likely your mechanics are not there yet and cause you to lose games. Like others have mentioned, you should play more rank to get a better handle on board control, how to trade, when to hit face, mulligan and card advantage. I wouldn't waste money on arena unless you have the extra cash to go around. use in game gold instead. It's not worth playing arena unless u get 5 wins where the amount of gold you are getting back is around 50 and you get a free pack, so that's 50+100(pack) gold and breaks even.
personally, i think once you get the mechanics right, arena is not difficult to average 5 wins or higher.

That might be true in some strict sense, but it is terrible advice.
Me watching arena vods and using heartharena has made a huge impact for me. I'm now an infinite arena player, or very close to it, with an average of 7.3 wins (with a somewhat limited sample size). (going from gold starved into climbing towards 2000 gold) Sure, I was above average before, but my guess would be that my average was somewhere around 4.5 before this.
OP: It has been said before but I'll say it again since I believe this could be a huge part of it: The program that looks at value of cards will likely ignore mana curve (if you are using one of the programs that I suspect that you are using). This is huge. Mana curve is arguably more important than the individual card values. Use Heartharena. Atleast until you are comfortable with how you draft a good curve with different classes.
I pay close attention to mana curve and try to keep early-mid to mid game higher with a nice slope on either side, of course picking cards that are top picks like flamestrike and such.
Listening to everyone's advice on here I was able to go 3-3 two times in a row which is new for me, but obviously not nearly where I want to be. Practice makes perfect though, just wanted to thank everyone for the help. I'll keep taking your advice and working towards being better, and hopefully infinite arena's. :)
It's good to know I'm not alone lol. I started arena doing very well for a complete noob, getting 4-5 avg wins, but recently, I've plummeted and I'm not sure what happened. Thanks for all the suggestions and help; I'll take a look at that stuff for sure. I love arena and wish I could just play that. The other modes are fun, but just no the same.
Using heartharena.com I managed to get my first 5-3 game with a rogue and a couple 3-3 games which is better than I usually get. I also had 2 bad plays with a 2-3 priest and a 1-3 warlock.
I just wanted to thank everyone for the help, tips and sites that were given. I'm doing better and while I'm not getting 7 wins yet I'm getting closer.
The reason I'm focusing on two drops is that this is the most important part of the mana curve followed by the four drops, most games are more or less won before turn 6. You generally can't expect to take the board back once you've lost it totally. A good draft will often end up with the mana peak at 2 mana, but not necessarily obviously.
I'll once again urge you to register to heartharena.com. Not only will you get a very good second opinion on your picks, you'll also be able to post your draft here to get feedback.
I'm of the same opinion. heartharena.com is an excellent way for new and intermediate players to build a competitive arena deck. The most useful part about it is the way they divide cards (removal, reach, board control, etc). It's immensely easy to check your deck for missing coverage.
I've improved on arena lately, since I actually started to do my research. I'd say get to know 4 classes that you are comfortable with, and try to choose them over the other 4 classes. For me, I have 3 classes that I feel comfortable with: Mage, Paladin, and Warlock. I've won 9+ games on them all and I think I understand how well the cards synergize.
Another thing is: Some guides will tell you certain cards are bad, but they could actually be pretty good if you already have a particular card. So sometimes you have to make the judgment choice on your own.
It's probably been said already, but you also want to smooth your deck out with good early drops.
I too was in this position about a year ago, it took me ~6 months of play to get to infinite arena status. I did not do hardcore Arena all day, nor did I play it every week, it was on and off play and if I felt like playing HS. One day it just clicked and I was not so nervous anymore, just looking for the best play that turn/future turns (don't play into MC tech and stuff).
I too have watched the vids on youtubes and twitch and they didn't do much for me because it was them making the decisions all the time. That does not transition to when your alone and your the one left making the final decisions. So just play Arena, have fun and eventually, When You're Ready, You Won't Have To Dodge Bullets.
Just went 9-3 with a Mage deck that contained 0 spells (Unless your counting 1x Mirror Entity) and no card draw, epics or legendaries.
I try to play the higher teir classes as listed on different sites, sticking with mage as #1 but pally, lock or rogue as well.

take a break? Sounds like your wearing yourself down on arenas. It's hard to play well when your bashing your head agaisnt the same wall over and over

Let's change this title to a more positive one.
How could I improve my level of play ?
Better then just plain Why am I so bad ?
Used to be a proud Handlock player.
Legend 17 times.
Still flirting with the ladder from times to times with Renolock.
