Staring at Flatline's list, it occurred to me his was very close to a budget deck: remove Bloodmage Thalnos and you're at less than 1600 dust, yet still have a list that's otherwise more-or-less the same as the pros run.

Got me thinking that a strong list could be made on that budget:

  • In the current, faster meta the expensive legendary "finishing" cards are less critical - probably why Flatline doesn't run them either.  I expect having a steady stream of strong mid-range threats is more important.
  • Not convinced of the value of Bloodlust, especially vs. better players who control the early game properly, and especially not two.
  • With the presence of Flamewreathed Faceless in the deck, Windfury becomes attractive.   So between this and the aforementioned point about Bloodlust, I've doubled down on this win condition instead - it requires less set-up.  The Flamewreathed are good (fast!) threats by themselves anyway.
  • Acidic Swamp Ooze - still relevant in the current meta so put it back in (Flatline doesn't include it)

Could be wrong on all that though - maybe 2x Bloodlust instead of legendaries for the win condition is the trick, hence the Theorycraft tag.  Will update after playtesting.

Despite the budget tag, adventures are required however:

An adventure-free mid-range shaman is somewhat of a challenge - Pagwon had a go however.  Some ideas there.
