Just taking the typical Control Warrior shell and outfitting it with new cards to replace with non-Standard ones.
Cards that are lost due to Standard:
- -2 Death's Bite (4 mana)
- -2 Sludge Belcher (5 mana)
- -2 Shieldmaiden (6 mana)
New cards that replace the lost cards:
- +2 Bloodhoof Brave (4 mana, 2/6, taunt, enrage: +3 attack)
- +1 Crazed Worshipper (5 mana, 3/6, taunt, give C'Thun +1/+1 when taking damage)
- +1 C'Thun's Chosen (4 mana, 4/2, Divine Shield)
- +2 Ancient Shieldbearer (7 mana, 6/6, gain 10 armor if C'thun has at least 10 attack)
To round out the C'Thun theme:
- +1 C'Thun
- +2 Disciple of C'Thun (3 mana, 2/1, deal 2 damage, give C'Thun +2/+2)
- +1 Brann Bronzebeard (12 cards have Battlecries, plus in a pinch Disciple/C'Thun's Chosen + Brann will activate Ancient Shieldbearer)
- +1 Doomcaller (8 mana card that recycles C'Thun)
In order to make space for these last 5 cards, I had to cut a couple of Control Warrior staples, such as finishers like Garrosh Hellscream (figure you can win by playing C'Thun x2 due to Doomcaller, or with Golden Monkey), Slam and Acolyte of Pain.
Brann Combos
- 6 mana: Brann + Coldlight Oracle -- Great for getting your cards out versus Aggro. Also lets you potentially mill key cards versus Control.
- 6 mana: Brann + Disciple/C'Thun's Chosen -- Instantly get your C'Thun to 10/10, which activates your Ancient Shieldbearers.
- 10 mana: Brann + Ancient Shieldbearer -- 20 Armor!
Obviously, the deck will need testing, but I feel that the current line-up should work, especially in a hopefully slower meta.
Let me know what you guys think!
I agree with Marbas on the topic of Elise Starseeker. The way I see it, this deck's goal is to hold off the enemy, play a huge C'Thun, as a board clear, resurrect it with Doomcaller, and then play it again for 30+ damage. Elise isn't required as a win condition.
I notice that this deck only has Fiery War Axe as its weapons. You might want to put in Arcanite Reaper since you're going to need some removal.
My recommendation is you drop elise and Harrison Jones for two Arcanite Reapers
Edit: just noticed the Coldlight Oracles. As cool as the synergy with brann is, I think Acolyte of Pain is still better, but that's just my opinion. I'd have to actually test the theory.
Thanks Jonnythm429!
Yeah, I definitely feel like this deck is too light on weapons. Just really hard to find something near the power level of Death's Bite. Personally I prefer Gorehowl over Arcanite Reaper -- but I'll definitely test both and see what works.
Harrison Jones and Elise Starseeker definitely seems like the best to cut here. I didn't even realize that they may not be as good in the new meta until you mentioned it, so really thanks for that.
As for Coldlight Oracle vs. Acolyte of Pain, the main reason I go with Coldlight is for the vs. Control Warrior/Priest matchups as this will ensure you are not drawing cards faster than your opponent. Against Aggro, I personally don't mind giving my opponents card draw as much, as long as it lets me draw into my answers quicker -- whereas Acolyte of Pain is slower and may only draw you 1 card. So that's the main reason I personally prefer Coldlight Oracles here, but both are really good and I switch them around depending on what I'm facing in my local meta.
Gorehowl does seem like a good tech, maybe my suggestion should have been 1 arcanite reaper, 1 gorehowl. I personally don't have the card so I don't think about it as much, but as an anti-control weapon it's some good stuff.
I think Grom isn't required for this deck since c'thun is your burst and fills the same role.
I agree he's a good fallback, just not if he's necessary. Grom is still super strong. I guess I mostly am not sure how to fit him in. Indeed we shall see
Hmmm, yeah it seems like Grommash would fit better than Elise.
I'm actually not very confident that C'Thun + Doomcaller is enough to be a finisher. Will certainly look into that replacement when patch 5.0 is out.
