If you have an Animated Armor on the battlefield, the AI will not attack the Animated Armor with minions, so you will only take 1 damage per minion he attacks with. I beat him on heroic my second try with this deck. Strategy is to keep Animated Armor in play, freeze everything you can, and attack his face.
Update: Swapped -2 Doomsayer for +1 Kel'Thuzad and +1 Mind Control Tech
Most unfair boss ever made in HS. Onyxia/pit fight/ogre ninja turn 1. No chance to win.
Yes this boss can have insane starts. If you see something like that don't waste your time just concede and try again. He might play Alexstraza turn 1, or he might play a whisp. Try to win the game he plays a whisp. :P
Just FYI, he WILL attack your animated armor with other minions if he has a full board.
Funny thing happened while playing this. He got a Doomsayer off his hero power fairly early and it basically broke his AI. He didn't want to play it because I had no minions, but (I'm guessing) he also didn't want to play any other minions so that they wouldn't get destroyed when he eventually plays it. So basically for like 6 turns he had just two small guys in play.
Still lost though, even after surviving to 4 cards left in the deck and finally getting KT + Mirror Image he just pulls out Mass Dispel and kills me -.-
This is literally the worst heroic fight of all adventures.
5 tries mainly because he kept pulling out big guns from his hero power. Nothing I could do there. Frost Nova, Mirror Entity and Cone of Cold MVP's for this. Unless you have terrible luck and he pulls a Deathwing or sth, KT seals the win
4 tries.
Mulligan for Animated Armor and freeze spells. This keeps you alive until you can pull Kel'Thuzad combo.
If you don't get an Animated Armor before turn 4 then concede
If you don't have Kel'Thuzad by Turn 7-8 then consider conceeding
Save Mirror Image and other Taunts for Kel-Thuzad
- He won't attack against Kel-Thuzad / Taunt combo (even if he has board advantage)
Save Duplicate for Animated Armor or Kel'Thuzad combo
Freeze or kill minions who can do random attacks.
Took a few tries but eventually won, didn't use Animated Armor though but I did the Kel'Thuzad Mirror Image combo for my Kel'Thuzad to be Entombed, luckily took him down just in time.
you just need some luck from RNGesus
Impossible to win for me. He always got a 8+ atack minion turn 1 and when I play the armorer he always get the spell for destroying it. Tried 32 times already. Couldn't get past turn 4.
Mine just transformed into Jaraxxus turn 1 ... was easy after that (replaced his hero power) :-)
I did not find success with this deck list, but I will thank you anyway because you gave me the idea to use Animated Armor. The AI will USUALLY ignore it.. but unfortunately I kept having games where he would randomly tail swipe it (unique spell deal 4 damage).. Really annoying.
This is not to say your deck does not work, of course. This "challenge" is above all an RNG check, and tbh I feel whether you win or lose has more to do with RNG than what deck you use or how you play it.. but after a few failed attempts with your deck list I put decided to put some of my legendaries to work and thankfully they carried me to victory.
In the end I got my win using a sort of Freeze Mage deck with Animated Armor instead of Doomsayers, although Doomsayers would probably work just fine or perhaps even better, but I don't have any. Also the AI constantly going face when you have animated armors up is nice because it lets you get in some extra damage with your minions, a luxury freeze mage usually does not have. And one which is necessary since the 15 extra armor means Alexstrasza only gets him to regular full hp as opposed to half..
He also ignores Thaurissan and Antonidas (unless he triggers Ice Block), so it's possible to get multiple turns of benefit and damage from them as well.
In the end, thanks again, and a MAJOR F**K YOU to the SOB(s) at Blizzard that thought this idiotic RNG check of a "challenge" was a good idea..
Also, I made a page for the deck I used to finally beat this boss. I'm not sure if it's considered "rude" to post another deck list here, if so let me know and I'll remove it, I'm just trying to help anyone still stuck on this guy.
This deck is amazing!
After trying with so many other decks I won on my first try with this one.
have yet to win after so many tries
Got him on the first try, didn't draw armor but drew mirror image into two frost novas into KT >.>
2nd try win, awesome deck mate :D thx for sharing
First try win with this deck. I didn't have a second ice block so I used a second mind control tech. Thanks for the share!
This worked for me; thanks! I conceded unless I drew an Animated Armor within the first few turns. When possible, I would play Duplicate on Turn 3 and Animated Armor on Turn 4. I also subbed in Unstable Portal since, like someone else mentioned, I do not have Ice Blocks, and I used a second Mind Control Tech instead of a Pyroblast. The Animated Armor really saved me. :)
as a rank-12 hearthstone player i will rate this deck a 7/10, knowing that his hero power can summon any card in the game and that it actully works but with a little bit of rng
INSANE RNG: i used unstable portal and it gave me Trade Prince Gallywix and i got his Ancestral Spirit, which i put on my Animated Armor. i used Duplicate on it and i had 3 Animated Armor on the field, which an additional 5 dmg from Trade Price Gallywix and i won with 5 health left. you have to have luck in the beginning so he doesnt get King Krush turn 1. then have board control until you play animated armor, and hope he doesnt play Shadow Bolt, Ragnaros the Firelord, Flame Lance, which have all happened against me
Worked for me! The animated armors are a lifesaver - literally!
