I created this deck based on meta and it has great survivability and board clear. I really only lost to Sif mage and I lost to Demon Hunter once. As long as you know what you are looking for when discovering cards based on what class you are against.
Basic Mulligan: Mining Casualties, Down with the Ship, Frost Strike, Crop Rotation, Dirty Rat, Acolyte of Death
Any of those work for a basic opening hand.
More Specific Mulligans:
Warrior/Demon Hunter: Runes of Darkness this should always be in opening hand and searching for Quartzite Crusher, Dirty Rat is your second main tool in this match up trying to hit their Odyn, Prime Designate or Window Shopper to negate their main source of damage. Plagues will also keep Reno, Lone Ranger at bay
Warlock: Not necessary for opening hand but you need to grab these ASAP. Helya and Down with the Ship these are your key to winning against Wheel of DEATH!!! with those cards you can shuffle 14 damage in plagues and another 6 to face after their deck is destroyed.
Mage: they are honestly in a weird place right now but most common is Sif mage. Honestly going face is a bad match up for anyone, but your best defense is Dirty Rat to try and hit their Sif or some run Puzzlemaster Khadgar also a good hit. Rustrot Viper is a good one to look for by turn 5 or 6 to get rid of Magic Wisdomball tissue can be a real annoyance.
Aggro: Any basic board clear will do, your most effective cards are probably gonna be Threads of Despair or Sickly Grimewalker paired with Crop Rotation or Mining Casualties and Hero Power.
Other DK: Their are a few different variations of DK going around and it is sometimes hard to pin exactly what to try for in opening hand. From my experience it is always really back and forth. DK has good healing, but unless they are playing pure Blood it is decently inconsistent. So stacking plagues is a good strategy and as much healing in reserve as you can. Maw and Paw is always good in Mulligan for this match up, either causing them to blow their early game board clear or giving you a descent health or corpse advantage. The key to going against other DK is to try your best to keep your The Primus and Reska, the Pit Boss for after they use theirs.
Zilliax: (Removed)
Things to keep in mind: The Headless Horseman also kills your opponents highest attack minion when played, also you lose the ability to kamikaze your hero power with Threads of Despair. You do not run the weapons Quartzite Crusher or Staff of the Primus so when using Runes of Darkness these are commonly your best options. When using Hematurge, Corpse Explosion is a valuable option because it not only boosts Climactic Necrotic Explosion but is a powerful board clear. Lastly Marrow Manipulator when using Frost Strike is a great discovery, it boosts Climactic Necrotic Explosion and also is 10 to the face on a clear board.
Thank you for taking the time out to check out my deck, feel free to leave a comment and let me know how this works for you.
Goodluck & Have Fun!
I tried this deck in the current meta and can say that Dirty Rat isn't worth it(partly because you can summon big minions with it). There are too few mages and shamans and in the case of Reno you can just cancel it with plagues. With this format I just kept losing.
My winrate improved drastically when I removed them for 2x Miracle Salesman, but I put 1x Dirty Rat in The Band, just in case. I even got a 5x winstreak that brought me to legend.
Nice! Yea. Dirty Rat and Zilliax are my flex pieces. I hadn't had too many times where Zilliax was worth it so I removed him and I run Prison of Yogg and I replaced my Dirty Rats with several different options. Arthas's Gift, Body Bagger, Quartzite Crusher, Glacial Shard. Honestly just depends on how my matches are going or what I'm running into alot. Warrior is still a rough match up if they have a solid stall game. Also Tentacle Warrior and Shaman seem to be decently common and Honestly I'm just not sure how to deal with them...not like I can just stop them from summoning the tentacles...lol.
Zilliax wasn't worth it*
Well, it seems to depend on your rank. After hitting legend I've faced a lot of warriors and mages where 2x Dirty Rats would have helped. I supposed it's also a matter of learning when to play them, but you still need a bit of luck since you can miss with both. I only managed to pull Ignis with mine. One thing is for sure though. After legend you don't need to worry about Highlander Warriors, since 90% of warriors are pure control Odyn warriors.
Yea I always try to hit Warriors with Dirty Rat around turns 5 to 8 so I can hit Deepminer Brann, Boomboss Tho'grun or Odyn, Prime Designate.
And I try to hit Mages around turn 4 or 5 to try and hit Sif or Puzzlemaster Khadgar, even though Khadgar can be delt with via Rustrot Viper.
I've been really enjoying to play with your deck, at first I was doubtful due to no Corpse Bride/Corpse Farm to feed the CNE but after some games it really errased any doubt in that department, I hope to hit legend with this during the weekend.
Ty so much! I'm so glad to hear it's going well!
I also replaced one of the Rustrot Vipers for a Sharp-Eyed Seeker. It is just great for getting Horseman head from deck immediately.
It took me a bit more than just the weekend to hit legend but I made, I didn't see the changes but I can see them being good. I tried Sharp-Eyed when the expansion dropped but I got matched against soooo many DKs (around 50% of my matches) that I just took it out and just started playing this deck. I glad I gave it a go because I had much fun playing it
I'm glad you did great with it, yea I'm always debating with Sharp Eye, sometimes it's great and others it's awful. (like plague dk)
Sharp Eye and Dirty Rat are my flex spots. I sometimes sub Dirty Rat for Glacial Shard. (For Warrior match up and other Dk)
I feel like Rustrot is also hit or miss but it adds trade in value. (It's great for Wisdomball and Ignis weapon though)
Changed Zilliax for another Rustrot Viper
Sorry for whatever reason the links didn't post.
