Hello all,
I will update the description after I noticed that this deck has been chosen as part of the weekly home-page featured decks , which is really amazing, so thanks for the view ship!
Ok first of all a quick summary. So I have never bothered grinding to Legend at all in either formats ever since I was playing Hearthstone (all way back to GvG), but with the achievements there I decided to give it a crack with both formats.
Now what if you are not at D5 yet? I recommend that you go with an aggressive style deck, to climb to D5 I used Toxic Hunter (a me go face approach with Toxic Reinforcements & Knife Vendor), you can look up any deck that uses both these cards. The reason for starting with aggro deck is obviously because you want fast games and make use of the win streak bonus stars. But once you cement at D5 you just want to increase your chances of winning each game.
Reasoning for card choices:
- Heavy Demons list apart from Y'Shaarj, the Defiler. So you can almost guarantee that you pull cheap demons with Free Admission.
- C'Thun, the Shattered: I like that he can activate your Cascading Disaster corruption, and also an alternative winning condition + board clear + removal. You're not diluting the deck much because you are still pulling minions with The Dark Portal and Free Admission.
- Imprisoned Vilefiend: I like the fact that its dormant with rush, meaning you get the choice to interact with it before your opponent. Can be a life saver vs aggro due to guaranteeing a Man'ari Mosher combo for health gain + removal.
- The Dark Portal: Pulling Tickatus with this is just broken and almost a win, its literally the dream.
- All those Soul Fragment cards but no Soulciologist Malicia? This helps with three things:
- Mirror Match: Their Tickatus can end up hitting your Soul Fragment and not burning anything worthwhile.
- Free Admission will still mostly pick up Demons.
- Health management, board clears, etc... all essential against aggro decks.
To be honest I can't think of any deck that gave me any problems, it was really a good breeze of win streaks. I stuck at D1 for some time yo-yo between stars but that's because of mirror or unfortunate draw streak.
Any questions or feedback please leave in comment section, much appreciated. If this decks gets more views and upvotes I will right up about Mulligan phase.
DISCLAIMER: This deck as the title suggests was used in Jan Season, before Darkmoon Faire mini-set!

"I stuck at D1 for some time yo-yo between stars but that's because of mirror or unfortunate draw streak."
I contend that you were stuck at D1 for another reason...Blizzard's algorithms. The reason is because I noticed that every time I get to D1, I start to take losses due to horrible card draw or horrible match-ups or both. I then switch decks or switch from Wild to Standard...play a few games...and then switch right back to the same deck I was playing and then hit legend rank with a four game win streak.
Not only have I experienced this season after season, but I have had other HS friends tell me that they did the same thing and then they hit legend rank. D1 level triggers something in Blizzard's programing to decrease your odds of winning because they know you're close and really want legend rank and you will likely just keep playing to get that carrot dangling in front of you that is just out of reach. Meanwhile, you are now D2 and moving the wrong way which keeps you playing more games.
Well I think that makes perfect sense, because your MMR boosts and the game/algorithm wants to balance it out and as you said deny you that carrot. But ya you are right should I decide to go Legend again that's a reasonable strategy to follow to not yo-yo.
As a warlock connoisseur, I don’t see the point of Cthun in this deck. Tickatus is enough to win those slower matchups imo.
As for the meta, with all these OTK decks around I would not suggest this kind of slow demon deck. The prime warlock and midrange/zoo lists will find you more success.
I don’t get why Rustwix isn’t in this deck instead of Cthun.
Free Admission is also super overrated, Sense demons works just fine and allows you to use powerful tools like Malicia.
Bro fix the deck as you please, this is what got me to Legend it worked for me just fine no hiccups or anything. Didn't claim to be refined finalized deck, it did its job as the title suggest.
You clearly didn't read the description why C'Thun, the Shattered is there, why Free Admission and why no Soulciologist Malicia.
Also the deck was made before the newly released mini-set hence no Envoy Rustwix was there.
I read all of it and frowned. And the deck was updated a week ago so it was well after the mini set dropped.
and again u didn't read WHY I updated. It was just the description because it was featured on the front page. You can see there were no cards added in the update. From above "I will update the description after I noticed that this deck has been chosen as part of the weekly home-page featured decks....."
So calm your frown down and go back to being a Warlock connoisseur =') , take a few reading classes as well while you're at it.
Very classy dig at the end there, makes it clear I was trying to have dialogue with a child. I take your leave.
How the F*** do you beat Mozaki Mage with this deck? The only times I could beat it is via aggro...
It's almost an OTK deck and unfortunately as with any decks there are bad match-ups for you.
6 soul shard cards and no soulciologist? c'thun only makes this already slow deck even slower. broodmother, why?
how does it work at legend?
I never found the use for Soulciologist Malicia tbh (and she makes Free Admission a bit worse) as I never had issues fighting for the board. She can still work for sure and you can swap her with C'Thun, the Shattered, although even if he makes the deck a tad slower but at the same time adds value, more clear, activates Cascading Disaster corrupts. I recall trying it without him and I wasn't satisfied with how it went.
Aranasi Broodmother heals + taunt is very good for delay.
As I said this my deck list and it actually worked to carry me to legend, you can adjust it as you see fit, I was just sharing my experience.
As for writing a description, its pretty self explanatory how to play the deck or what we're trying to achieve. Tickatus is what wins you the game most of the times against any control deck, and heals and board clears against aggro or token decks.
Struggles sometimes were against Pen Flinger Paladins those are annoying as hell because we have nothing to stop their librams.
what do you mean?
I guess he is talking about the fact that you tell how you went to D5 and then you were stuck at D1 or whatever, but you do not write anything related to this deck ;)
Anyway, 95% of the people here should know how to play this deck, since its around since some time now.
