Greetings,
Here is the deck I used to defeat Kel'Thuzad in heroic mode in a single run. It is 50% mix of mill deck, inspired from this deck, and 50% from traditional Galakrond Rogue.
This deck is hard to master and the boss is difficult. So this won't be autowin and you'll have to use your brain. If you are not familiar with this archetype, you should probably watch some videos of mill rogue.
Overview of the boss
T1-11: Kel Thuzad deals 3 damage / turn to your hero and freeze it. This means that you play most of time without heroic power. Equip your weapon only if you have nothing better to do.
After T11: Kel Thuzad can steal one of your minion for 8 mana.
Kel'Thuzad's decklist runs only 2 AoE (Blizzard and Twisting Nether) meaning that you can flood the board during first turns.Kel'Thuzad runs a single burst (1xFrostbolt), meaning his DPS are mainly his 1st hero power and his minion. That is why it's crucial to control the board.
How to play this deck
During the whole fight, your minion trade by default and rarely go face. Remember that yYour goal is to save your HP and this is your main priority.
During T<11, you you control the board, in particular with your Galakrond cards : you try to survive and upgrade Galakrond, the Nightmare. Its recommended to play your deathrattle effects in this first phase to be sure to benefit from them. Indeed, after T11, remember that Kel Thuzad might steal your minions. Note that Brann Bronzebeard doubles battlecries effects, which can help to upgrade Galakrond. Regarding galakrond, the weapon is not important, because your win condition is the mill effect. So it's better to play it quick to enable Kronx Dragonhoof, to get armor, to get a usable heroic power. The main interest to upgrade Galakrond, the Nightmare is mainly to draw many cheap cards.
After T>11, "good" new, Kel Thuzad changes its heroic power. The key idea is to have small minions to discourage him to steal them (basically, you'll mainly play those related to the mill package : Coldlight Oracle and Lab Recruiter). Keep enough to trade because your HP are probably low and we try to bring the boss to fatigue.
Recommendations
- Try to play Brann Bronzebeard when you have a taunt to benefits more from his bonus.
- Try to play your first Coldlight Oracle and Lab Recruiter if you can immediately replicate them (with Lab Recruiter or Togwaggle's Scheme) or play Shadowstep to get them back. Similarly, you'll have to duplicate these cards for your win condition. You'll have to replicate some Lifedrinker and Kronx Dragonhoof as it is broken.
- You can virtually play infinity of Lab Recruiter (casted on Coldlight Oracle and another Lab Recruiter).
- Keep Evasion when opponent board is large.
- Ideally, play Vanish when the opponent's board and hand are almost full to burn vanished minion... and when you have interesting battlecries to get back (especially Lifedrinker).
- A card burnt is a card not played. Try to trigger massive overdraws to decrease the number of threats.
Possible replacements
Expensive cards relevance
- Flik Skyshiv can remove a minion and the corresponding duplicate from the deck / hand of Kel'Thuzad. But actually it's not breaking game and this is the less important Legendary card of this deckllist.
- Zilliax is highly recommended as it can protect you twice and then give you 6HP or more. Khartut Defender or Antique Healbot are possible replacements.
- For similar reasons, Evasion saves numerous HP and is highly recommended.
- Kronx Dragonhoof is obviously very interesting for Galakrond deck. It's strong and can help you to draw Galakrond, the Nightmare. If you don't have this card, you should craft it has it is still standard and strong.
- Brann Bronzebeard is very important due to numerous battlecries effects. Hard to say if the deck is strong enough without him.
Replacements
- Strong healing cards like Khartut Defender, Antique Healbot
- Cheap "removal" like Betrayal can be helpful during the first phase. This also holds for sap effects, but Blackjack Stunner is interesting only if include more secrets, e.g. Sudden Betrayal, Ambush, etc.
- Lackey helps to control the board, so other Galakrond cards, like Devoted Maniac could also help. As lackeys and Devoted Maniac have a small body, Kel'thuzad second heroic power should not be a problem.
Mulligan
Try to get cards from Galakrond package, Brann Bronzebeard, Coldlight Oracle.
Good luck, and if you like this deck, feel free to upvote it :-)
Got it in 4 tries. Opening hands were always very expensive, unfortunately. Did not have Evasion, Flik, Lifedrinker, Zilliax or Kronx. Subbed in some of the suggested: Khartut Defender, Antique Healbot, Devoted Maniac, Betrayal.
This did not work for me at all.
