For the month of September with SoU I decided to go down the route of Highlander Hunter and forsake my Control Shaman (https://www.hearthpwn.com/decks/1286740-control-shaman-easy-climb-to-rank-5-july-august) for the rank 5 climb.
The decision seemed a correct one as I managed to go from rank 9 to rank 5 within 3.5 hours with some really good win steaks. I also used that deck in a local tournament and ended in 10th place missing on top 8 through tie breakers, so I am pretty much confident of the deck.
The deck has no bad match-ups apart from pure Aggressive decks like Tip the Scales Paladin & Mech Hunter, but I did manage to steal a few wins even against such decks. I won't go into the specific for each match (you can ask me in the comments if you want to), but the most popular decks like Control Warrior, Combo Priest and Quest Shaman were easily farmed no problem. Even the mirror match is thought of with the addition of Acidic Swamp Ooze and Flare.
If you tend to run into so many Control/greedy match-ups you can amend the deck as follows:
- Cards that you don't really need: Springpaw, Unleash the Hounds, Flare, Acidic Swamp Ooze
- Cards worth adding: Shimmerfly, Hunter's Pack, Savannah Highmane, Wild Bloodstinger
*I really don't like running Tracking in the deck, you have good tutor cards and it is about knowing how to mulligan depending on the match-up.
