Very fun deck to play, if you just want to meme and win in style. The point of this deck is to stall the game until you can play Jepetto Joybuzz and discount atleast 1 of your 4 main win conditions: Archmage Antonidas, Kalecgos, Malygos, or Alexstrasza. Even with one discount, any of the above minions will make it very easy for you to win against a typical matchup. If you discount 2 of the 4 and can survive for a turn, you will most likely have lethal the next turn, assuming you have burn spells in your hand.
This deck utilizes many stall cards, such as Ray of Frost and Shooting Star, in order to clear early game boards. These cards are especially good against aggressive decks such as Murloc Shaman and Zoo. Although Doomsayer can often interrupt your Jepetto Joybuzz draws, they are so good at creating awkward turns for your opponent in the early game and its potential combo with Frost Nova can be game changing.
In the mid-game, this deck uses constant freeze synergy to continue to stall the game. Polymorph is an especially strong card against mage mirrors to counter Mountain Giant. As soon as you draw Jepetto Joybuzz, consider not drawing cards if you can, as drawing any of your 4 win conditions will make Jepetto Joybuzz draws much worse.
In the late-game, play Jepetto Joybuzz and draw atleast one of your win conditions. Your game plan should depend on what win condition you draw, but in general, a discounted Kalecgos + Pyroblast + Fireball + Fireball deals 22 damage, a discounted Malygos + Frostbolt + Frostbolt + Fireball deals 27 damage, and a discounted Alexstrasza can set your opponent to 15 health (assuming they have no armor), and this can help set up a 2 turn kill. A discounted Archmage Antonidas will require a different style of play, usually in combo with cheap spells, such as Ray of Frost, to generate multiple Fireballs to burn your opponent over the course of a few turns. This combo is even easier if you discount 2 of the 4 win conditions.
Against All Classes: Keep Jepetto Joybuzz, Doomsayer, Bloodmage Thalnos. Although it may feel wierd to keep Jepetto Joybuzz, an 8 mana card, against an aggro matchup like Zoo or Murloc Shaman, I have found that this deck has enough survival tools in the early game and enough freeze effects to stall the game long enough to play Jepetto Joybuzz. The other three minions must always be kept in the mulligan so Jepetto Joybuzz doesn't draw them in the late game. Even against control matchups, such as Control Warrior, keep Doomsayer and Bloodmage Thalnos.
Against Warrior: Keep Magic Trick, Arcane Intellect (only if you do not have Jepetto Joybuzz in your mulligan). Hard mulligan for Jepetto Joybuzz, as this matchup will likely require two discounted win conditions because of the Warrior's armor game. In the early game, your plan should be to limit the amount of armor the warrior gains through Eternium Rover. Doomsayer is a particularly good card against Eternium Rover to deny armor game. As soon as you draw Jepetto Joybuzz, avoid drawing any more cards to not risk drawing one of your win conditions that could have possibly been discounted. Once you play Jepetto Joybuzz, your game plan should depend on the win conditions you discounted. Remember to only play Alexstrasza after your opponent has played Zilliax or if their mechs are frozen. Don't be afraid to Frostbolt mechs if needed to deny heal with Zilliax, since you will usually have more than enough burn to end the game.
Winrate against Warrior: 90% (10/11 games won)
Against Mage: Keep Magic Trick, Arcane Intellect, Polymorph, Ray of Frost, Frostbolt. This matchup solely depends on whether you draw Polymorph or not to sheep your opponent's Mountain Giant. Doomsayer is a very good card to play the turn they are about to play a Mountain Giant (when they have 8-9 cards turn 4-5). Your opponent will either have to waste removal to play their Mountain Giant or they will have to wait a turn. Ray of Frost and Frostbolt are great cards to counter their giants or their Sorcerer's Apprentice in the early game. Mages don't have much heal other than Zilliax, so don't be afraid to Fireball your opponent in the face if you have nothing else to do.
Winrate against Mage: 60% (8/13 games won)
Against Rogue: Keep Magic Trick, Arcane Intellect, Ray of Frost, Frostbolt, Cinderstorm, Shooting Star. Cinderstorm and Shooting Star are very good cards when your opponent has played a lot of tokens. Ray of Frost can be used to freeze a giant Edwin van Cleef for a few turns.
Winrate against Rogue: 50% (6/12 games won)
Overall, this is an extremely fun deck to play. At rank 5, I have a little over 60% winrate, even against meta decks like Bomb Warrior, Giant Cyclone Mage, and Tempo Rogue. If this deck gets 10 likes, I will post mulligans, matchups, and info on replacing cards. Also, please check out my other Jepetto OTK decks from other classes! Thanks for reading.
I've really loved this deck. Currently on a 5 win streak on rank 5. Thank you 🚀🚀🚀
How do you have so much dust ;-;
As usual the idea is attractive but this kind of deck (that's the case for, unfortunately, most mage decks now) is too dependent of what you draw.
if you draw the big minions too early its a pain. Mid range hunter or mech hunter can beat this most of the time.
Yeah this deck is very weak against mech hunter, but other than that I think it has a chance against most meta decks right now. As for drawing big minions too early, yes it's a pain but as long as you draw 1 of them with Jepetto, you are usually in the driver's seat in the game. Also, the big minions are decent on their own, aside for Malygos which is complete garbage at 9 mana.
Running Doomsayer and Bloodmage with Jepetto is terrible. Deck also needs Luna's, it's insane now. More draw, Kalecgos sucks. Pyroblast is not needed, your win con is 1 mana Antonidas or Malygos.
[edit] I just played the deck for like 10 games at rank 4 with some changes, added two Research Project for Kalecgos/Pyro. Drop Cinderstorm for extra Cone of Cold and Luna's. Deck is fun when you don't draw your top end, but I swear you either draw Malygos or Antonidas most games early on, very very frustrating. Wait to unleash most of your draw after you play Luna's if at all possible. Don't know if Jepetto is really worth it, sometimes he tutors the creatures you need, other times he draws doomsayers, sometimes you can never play him. Streaky deck for sure. I feel like it's just better to run Antonidas/Luna's in any other mage deck right now.
I've found Doomsayer and Thalnos single handedly win me games against Murloc Shaman and Token Druid in the early game. Chances are that you will get atleast 1 of them in your mulligan, and that is extremely important early on in the game. The chances that you draw 2 bad minions out of a total of 7 minions from Jepetto is very unlikely, considering you hard mulligan for the bad minions anyway. I think Luna is a decent addition to the deck, but I don't have her so I can't say lol.
I would argue Kalecgos is good in this deck, since it is a 2/1 against Warrior, and it's stat line is awkward to deal with since it is out of range of Omega Devastator. However, I made this deck about a week ago when it was a Warrior meta past rank 5, so it may not be as good now. I think if you are facing a lot of mech hunters, then yes, Kalecgos is absolute garbage and can be replaced.
Yeah, Kalecgos has been good (in another deck). I'm just running the Mountain Giants/Khadgar/Conjuring/Power of Creation deck with a better spell package in Ray of Frosts/Arcane Intellects etc (no Book of Specters) and Luna's/Jepetto/Kalecgos/Malygos/Alex/Antonidas without all the freeze garbage (just one Flamestrike) and it's been waaay better, just hit rank 2 with it from rank 4. The problem with the freeze deck is the doomsayer package sucks, you're all in on winning with fireballs and a 1 mana high-end, if you don't get 1 mana Antonidas or Malygos you have no stable win condition, all your stall AOE then becomes useless, the giants version gives you multiple other win cons and just a stronger deck overall against almost everyone.
I'm just stating facts, I used your deck above rank 5 with a negative winrate, freeze is not good and you will struggle against a lot of decks esp better mage lists.
What about Pocket Galaxy now after BUFF. would it be better? I want to play freeze mage so bad. But should be good also :(
Unfortunately I dont have Pocket Galaxy, but I have thought about putting it and here's the thing, Jepetto not only discounts minions to 1 mana, but also draws them from your deck. However, the upside with Pocket Galaxy is that it is only 5 mana and can discount all your win conditions. I think it can work, and I will try it out when buffs are live. Thanks for the suggestion :)
I don't have Pocket Galaxy either, I wanted a second opinion before crafting it. :D
I played a few games with your deck against my friend's hunter and I didn't stand a chance. I will try some more to see if I get better at it.
This deck will get run over by Hunter, I only have around a 30% winrate against them. This deck mainly counters Warrior and Mage matchups.
