The idea is to OTK with your hero power by using the good old Clockwork Automaton, discounted by Galvanizer, in combination with the new Daring Fire-Eater to deal 40 damage in one turn.
For the most part, this is the typical Control Mage or Big Spells Mage with inevitability by the inclusion of this OTK. We also have the new legendary Loa to get multiple Ragnaroses as an alternative wincon.
STEP 1 - Survive (and draw) until you get the combo pieces:
- Good Old AOE spells - Dragon's Fury, Blizzard, Meteor, Flamestrike
- Polymorph
- Armor Gain - Arcane Artificer
- Jaina
STEP 2:
2 Youthful Brewmaster / 1 Zola to play extra Galvanizers
Play 4 Galvanizer to discount 2 Clockwork Automatons (so they cost 1 mana each)
STEP 3 - Kill your opponent in one turn (unless is Druid or Warrior)
2 x Daring Fire-Eater - 5 damage Hero Power (2 mana)
2 x Clockwork Automaton - 20 damage Hero Power (+ 2 mana = 4 mana)
Molten Reflection one Clockwork Automaton - 40 damage Hero Power (+ 4 mana = 8 mana)
Use the Hero Power (+ 2 mana = 10 mana) - deal 40 damage to face
PLAN B AGAINST DRUID OR WARRIOR - Kill your oponnent with Jaina and Ragnaros (you can play up to 4 Ragnaroses with Brewmaster and Zola). If you think you are able to play several Ragnaroses, drop your Fire-Eaters and Clockworks to accelerate Jan'alai and try to win that way.
VIDEO EXPLANATION (by kiwiinbacon)
ALTERNATIVE VERSION:
You get the discounted Clockworks by using Luna's Pocket Galaxy.
First, you have to wait to draw Luna's, then play Augmented Elekk (3 mana) + Clockwork Manipulator (5 mana) + Baleful Banker into Manipulator (2 mana). Or you can play two Baleful Bankers. This way you have two Manipulator's in your deck. Use Pocket Galaxy the next turn to discount them (but there's a chance you draw one of them in between, which will ruin the combo).
To get the third one, you use Molten Reflection as in the previous version. You could also shuffle four copies into your deck by using two Bankers and one Elekk, or even more copies with an extra Elekk (or you could have a Faceless Manipulator in your deck to be discounted by Luna's Pocket Galaxy, but I think is way more difficult and less consistent).
POTENTIAL CARD CHANGES:
Taunts: Stonehill, Saronite
Frost Nova / Doomsayer to stall
Mind Control Tech
More draw (Witchwood Piper gets some combo pieces, Pyromancer could be better than it seems)
Spirit of the Hawk (good to play Jan'alai soon and probably amazing against Odd Paladin / Token Druid)
An ooze if weapons hate is needed
Arcane Tyrant
Alexstrasza to play the turn before combo and get an easier OTK
Big value creatures: Lich King, Sindragosa
I'm also wondering if adding the new Mage AOE with Overkill, Blast Wave, would be good to kill your own small combo pieces (Galvanizer, Brewmaster, Zola - previous ping) and get free spells from them. As a value generator. Probably not.

EDIT 1: A previous version of the deck played Simulacrum to copy Galvanizers. I realized that will not work if Arcane Artificer is in your hand, so changed Simulacrum for Brewmaster. This is the way it worked:
BEST CASE (turn 8 OTK) ---- 2 x Simulacrum into Galvanizer
2 x Fire-Eater (2 mana) = 5 damage
2 x Clockwork Automaton (+2 mana, if discounted = 4 mana) = 20 damage
1 x Molten Reflection (+4 mana = 8 mana) = 40 damage
CASE 2 (turn 10 OTK) ---- 2 x Simulacrum into Fire-Eater (no need to draw Molten Reflection)
4 x Fire-Eater (4 mana) = 9 damage
2 x Clockwork Automaton (+ 6 mana, if discounted = 10 mana) = 36 damage)
CASE 3 (turn 10 OTK) ---- 1 x Simulacrum into Galvanizer
2 x Fire-Eater (2 mana) = 5 damage
2 x Clockwork Automaton (+4 mana, if discounted = 6 mana) = 20 damage
1 x Molten Reflexion into Clockwork Automaton (+4 mana = 10 mana) = 40 damage
EDIT 2: Added an alternative version of the combo
EDIT 3: Video by kiwiinbacon
EDIT 4: Replaced Spirit of the Dragonhawk by Zola for consistency. Added Spirit to possible card replacements.
EDIT 5: Alexstrasza included in card replacements to make the OTK easier after several suggestions in comments.
EDIT 6: Replaced 2 x Pyromaniac & 2 x Mind Control Tech for 2 x Raven Familiar & 2 x Tar Creeper
any way to combine this with burn style and odd mage so you won't need all the combo pieces and could still kill with only 1 automaton?, that way you could have options if you can't full combo.
Pretty small chance to have all the needed cards in your hand at the same time, and you have to save a lot of cards, which means your options will be limited during the entire game. Molten reflection is also a dead card most of the time, and further dilutes the AoE damage.
I feel that this deck is a bit clumsy. You want to draw as many cards as you can to OTK yet you have to survive. And you're always having 3-5 cards in your hand that are useless since you need all cards to get the combo going (you need both Automatons in hand). You always have youthful brewmasters in your hand nad galvanizers but you need to have both automaton in your hand to play them.
As you are surviving you don't use your hero power, so you can't activate Jan'alai, the Dragonhawk .There are better OTK decks out of there. My first game I had a hand full of youthful brew masters, and you have to wait to have 2 automaton in hands to do the combo. This is truly a meme deck with a very low win percentage.
For example : what are you supposed to do with this hand ? I am stuck I can't do anything. And this happens a lot of time with this meme deck.
Here is my 5th game : What can I play on this turn ?
I can't play Galvanizer because I only have 1 Automaton in my hand. I can't play meteor because it doen't clear the board. I can't play Fire Eater because it's part of the combo. I can't clear the board and I'm dead next turn.
I'm on my 8th game and my 8th loss, so I won't be testing this deck anymore.
If you're playing against aggro, don't try to OTK: use the combo cards to try and win the game. The OTK is an unavoidable win condition against control, but too slow against aggro. That's why I would not play the Frost Nova + Doomsayer package, which is good to stall but not to clear boards, and I would include Dragon's Fury instead (removing Arcane Intellect for consistency), Arcane Artificer to gain armor and Raven Familiar to draw your AOE (with Brewmaster, several times if needed).
I'm not saying that's going to be Tier 1 with that approach, but I think you should play it like a big spell mage if you're facing aggro to maximize your chances to win.
Even vs Control I'm getting smashed, they pump out big minions or milling me since you need 7 or 8 cards to start getting the combo ready. 80% of decks are aggro / value decks right now, so playing this deck is exaclty like playing anti aggro mage but this deck is worse than anti aggro mage. This deck is good at rank 25 memes to be honest.
hmm, I agree that a control mage is a better fit, but I think we can improve the decklist. It depends on the meta whether aggro is heavy or not. I would cut Coldwraith, Arcane Tyrant, Pyromaniac, Ice Walker, and Raven Familiar. I do not like Coldwraith because I want to be able to play a card like that on curve and get the battle cry ability. I also feel that if aggro is popular, like it always is, we will want some taunts. I would rather put a taunt like Tar Creeper. The reason I would remove Ice Walker is for a similar reason in that it is only included because you are playing Coldwraith. In a control deck, it is better to have powerful cards that can 2 for 1 and get more value. We are essentially creating a mini combo that at best draws a card? Instead let us make an even stronger mini combo that not only draws cards but can be used for other things as well. I like Celestial Emissary for this. It pumps all our board wipes. We also add Blast Wave. Now we can deal 4 damage and fill our hand possibly. It is also a 5 cost spell so fits our "big spell" theme.
So we filled 6 of our 10 slots leaving 4 left. We want another late game powerhouse that can add great value. Sindragosa fits this and is great fodder for out hero power as well! Plus we need something that pressures opponents as we do not want to be doing a pure reactive game and slamming and 8/8 that we can get legendaries and 3/6 elementals from is great
honestly the last 3 slots are free, but I might consider adding Acolyte of Pain as we can ping it to draw cards and increase our hero power count, Doomsayer as it can clear a lot and slamming it early can buy us precious time to get to turn 5.
I do like this build as I am a fan of control mage and have been playing it constantly (and really only it), as I feel it has a chance versus everyone. I might consider also not going "big spell" if aggro becomes popular and going with some smaller cost board clears, however I see more people going big with decks.
Great idea, but I think you're going the wrong route. The big spell mage shell is meant for pure control/fatigue, it doesnt support combo strategies well. I think it's better to get a blast from the past (lul), the old Freeze Mage shell!
-2 Dragon's Fury
-2 Pyromaniac
-2 Mind Control Tech
- Frost Lich Jaina
+2 Arcane Intellect
+2 Doomsayer
+2 Frost Nova
+1 Alexstrasza
You already have Jan'alai combo as a second win condition, no need for a third one, so its better to make your first one more consistent: more draw, better stall, and with Alex you only need 02 Automatons to kill your opponent the next turn in many matchups.
I also want to try out Spirit of the Hawk Instead of Artificer, to get both win conditions easier w/o trading one for another, but maybe that's too much, will require testing.
I guess it's possible, but I'm not sure about Freeze Mage shell working without Ice Block. Maybe if you include some Ice Walkers + Spirit of the Dragonhawk to AOE freeze opponent minions, which also helps activating Jan'alai... But I wouldn't remove Pyromaniac, cause you need some massive drawing potential to get the combo fast. It's gonna be fun to try and refine the deck, that's for sure. There are plenty of ways to build it!
Ice Walker doesn't AOE freeze with spirit of the dragon hawk. I think it might be intentional. If you go back and look at the reveal stream, Regis tries to do that combo and it only freezes the pinged minion.
You're right, I didn't remember that interaction from the reveal stream. Then I even less sure that it's possible to replicate the Freeze Mage gameplan without Ice Block.
Arcane Intellect is way better than Pyromaniac for this strategy, thats an odd mage only card I think. Making up for Ice Block is what Artificer is here for, armor is essential against aggro and combo. Not as good sure, but great nonetheless.
One of the devs confirmed the Ice Walker interaction was a bug and will be fixed before the set launches
that's wierd. shouldn't have been a bug since Ice Walker says "target". The Spirit's spillover effects shouldn't count as targets...
Good points, but Frost Lich Jaina is so strong that frost mage absolutely would want to run it as well. Great survival and wins entire matchups on its own.
Wouldn't fitting in an Alexstrasza make the whole combo way easier?
This deck is meh vs control decks and extremely bad vs aggro decks. It is just a meme deck, fun to play if you have combo, but don't expect to win.
So basiacally you have to gather 8 cards to pull that otk
I think the advantage is that you can use your combo pieces to accelerate Jan'alai / Ragnaros as an alternative, really powerful wincon. Both Clockwork and Fire-Eater makes the Loa's activation much easier, and then Brewmasters and Zola help you cast several Ragnaroses. So you have a combo for inevitability, but you also have a regular game plan which is strong. The only 'dead' cards are Galvanizers in that case, but you could simply discount Clockworks a little bit to accelerate Jan'alai too.
I'm also wondering if adding the new Mage AOE with Overkill would be good to kill your own small combo pieces (Galvanizer, Brewmaster, Zola - previous ping) and get free spells from them. As a value generator. But probably not... Too much work, too weak card.
nice!
Thank you very much for this theorycraft, I really like the idea behind it and I feel like this will be not only awesome to play when it comes out but also clean up shop which makes me super hyped!!
Since this list is super awesome I made a video discussing this theorycraft list which I really hope you enjoy!!
