Doomguard. Kill an Eldritch Horror and still have a 5/1 standing, all for 7 mana.
This card is just straight up tilting. I had a warrior arena run where I had board dominance but my mage opponent used 3 Firelands Portals on me. Needless to say, I straight up lost and was so salty that I quit the game for a few hours. If Team 5 thinks that Firelands Portal is a good card someone in the dev team needs to straight up get fired.
Awesome card design Blizzard. What Mage needed was more direct damage. Just had a mage hit face with this and get Leeroy Jenkins. That's more than a pyroblast for 7 mana. Awesome.
The reason that this was probably made a common was because you get it for free after the tutorial and blizzard didn't want people to get much dust for free. They could of put a different card for the tutorial though.
So, did you guys have success with this one in Constructed Tempo Mage? I've used it in a couple of games and it did great, but, then again, I got pretty lucky with the random 5-drop every time. Anybody here has formed a more clear opinion on its viability?
Well, removing a relatively big minion and summoning a minion with an average 4-5/4-5 stats. It's quite decent to be honest. Removing a big body is the thing you go for. The minion you gain is usually of about the same size. I'd say it's at least a one of auto include in most tempo-oriented decks. If you run two Flamestrike, you might be even better off swapping one of 'em out for the Portal.
But then again, I had the luck of drawing into an Earth Elemental twice today. So maybe I'm a little biased. I just like the card, and I really love the good RNG that's behind it.
The best minions i have got from this is Earth Elemental and Leeroy Jenkins. I love this card.
Hey Doomguard is pretty good too.
more removal spells for mage........yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyy............................
*quietly sobs, walks into corner, sits, starts stroking mage deck full of removal spells*
Greetings fellow travelers
I don't have the medal of legend or medal of 12 wins in arena.
However I feel that an issue keeps popping up over and over within blizzard games. That issue being the fact that they never listen to what some of the most active, in this case, arena players have to say and think. I've always thought that adding their opinion to a card when making it would be huge. At least letting them review it pre-release would be a grand step in my opinion since - while I'm not certain - I believe that most of us agree with streamers like Kripparian on cards like this one. It's madness really.
This keeps showing up in other games as well like wow. I'm a veteran wow gamer who started at the good old 2004 and kept going until the start of MoP. While MoP was a success it was to me a joke. However WoD was even more of a joke and it's again caused through my eyes by blizzard not listening to the community. However in wow's case.. If they listen they ask the newcomers which I believe to be a fatal error (as we now see have been one).
I just wanted to share my idea with you guys since this problem has existed since goddamn release of wow and I'm sure in many other games but not on this scale.
Cheers!
PS: I'm not a krippfanboi sadly. I just watch some of his arena clips.
This and babbling book need there rarities switched
In a recent interview, Ben Brode stated that he doesn't think that giving Mages such an OP card in the common slot in Arena has to do with the balancing of other classes in arena.
Once again, Blizzard's team did an huge mistake and they don't want to take their responsabilities. If this behaviour continues throughout the expansions, the game will be ruined soon.
Very good video from Kripp about this card:

I don't play arena and even i understand that this shit should have been at least rare if not epic.
Well blizzard devs gave the best answer to people that accused them for not giving a crap about arena balance.
And their answer is :
.
I was watching Firebat review this card, and he thinks it will see play and be very good in Tempo Mage. With the possible scenario of getting Leeroy or Doomguard from it doing ten dmg and winning the game.
I guess for blizzard it was either an OP firelands portal or a seriously underpowered friendlylands portal..
RiP arena 7+ wins all opponents mages.
Blizzard keep printing good COMMON cards for strong classes in the Arena. FeelsBadMan
Finally Mage will be playable in Arena!! Hunter and Priest are no longer so ridiculously broken! Thanks Blizzard.
