Ulthok goes into an aggro deck, maybe one with Murlocs, not necessarily the Curse decks. Think about it, you tempo your Murlocs, hit their face a bunch until low health and 'finish' with this on 5. If not cleared because the opponent will not want to burn too much of their health in the process, it's premium 7/7 stats will do the job.
Tried Ulthok in Murlocs, does nothing.
Welp, given how BS Curse warlock are atm, these cards cement our new Warlock overlords for the next few months. Thx Blizz.
I like how every class gets murlocs or mechs or pirates as if aggro is somehow underpowered, and warlock gets a card immolate as if control was too fun to play. Control decks have no good new cards. Priest doesn't need a worse plague of death or a better entomb, priest needs an actual board clear that costs less than 5 mana. Warrior needs to stop getting pirates and be fun again. Druid does not need extra 1 mana spells for otk decks.
They should at least add a format where somehow control decks can regularly have fun games. It was once possible to have silly-but-somehow-barely-viable decks and get some fun games out of them.
Uh control and Rush warrior are the two best decks in the game. How is control getting the shirt end of the stick again? This card also dunks on Paladin as it sits on Smite and builds it up.
Warlock is so bad in charge meta dominating in standard and will get nothing from the mini set.
The legendary is gonna backfire 9 times out of 10. And the mild statline bonus alone is nowhere close to make it worthwhile. Just take a look at the NEUTRAL COMMON 4-MANA deathrattle minion... This is nonsense.
I really dislike that Warlocks are the designated anti control class.
People are definitely going to come at me with “low winrate”. It doesn’t matter. Tickatus, Questline Warlock, Mecha’thun Warlock, Owl Warlock, etc they all make the game as unfun as possible if you face them as a control deck. I don’t want there to be no counterplay to control decks but I don’t want there to be a counterplay that makes you pull your hair out and considering conceding from turn 1.
Questline Priest is an anti control deck. Priest have other anti control decks but they never manage to make me feel that the game is unfun as much as Warlock does.
Alright, with the rant out of the way. Immolate is probably not good enough to put one of in a deck. You’d much rather discovering this against a slow deck and hopefully burn their win condition like Kazakusan or a combo piece. All other cases it is practically useless. You can force your opponent to choose to either free up their hand or lose their cards so that you put more curses into their hands or get them to draw curse of agony without burning it but those are are fringe cases.
Commander Ulthok could probably be 4 mana and it won’t see play. Anyone who played the blood tavern brawl where you pay health for spells is familiar of how overpowered this effect is and this card lets you pay health for minions as well as spells. You can be cheeky and play it while they have curses in their hands but that won’t be good enough.
Not sure how you discover Immolate since it costs 4. I would agree if it cost three but it's going to have to be in deck to be played at this point.
I haven't played Warlock recently but there are a 3 minions that can discover spells unconditionally already. Venomous Scorpid, Vulpera Scoundrel and Pandaren Importer.
I am sure School Teacher is a popular card in a lot of decks.
OH MY GOD! You guys are gonna see a lot of my N'Zoth hero skin because I will be playing Warlock a lot that's for sure!
Immolate.. Okay...
Can Priest get his original
Mindrender Illucia
back?
Thanky in advance!
Nope. Card is way too OP to be in its original form.
Immolate feels like it punishes playing big/slower decks in a meta where it can already feel punishing to play them. Really cool card, though. Commander Ulthok is interesting.
Warlock just got more scary
I respectfully disagree, I have been playing a few versions of curselock in top 3k legend and I feel this card is a great addition for the deck. Granted it is situational but I'm excited for it! GL with the climbs friend :D
Exactly what would Commander Ulthok do that another card wouldn’t be better for? You aren’t going to play this early or risk having your opponent cheat out a whole hand. If you are playing it for extra damage late game, how is it better than Brann, Zola/sirakess or tamsin/dragged below? I just don’t see how giving your opponent the ability to play cards for health works in YOUR favor. Being 5 mana, you can’t play tamsin or brann combo the same turn, so you are giving them at most two curses if you have brann and a nagaling that knows dragged below or just dragged below and a nagaling. Two curses is an extra 4 damage if they play it and then a body for 5 mana, wouldn’t Mr. Smite be the better card for the deck in this hypothetical? I just don’t see how this isn’t going to be a disaster when it’s played. Commander Ulthok reminds me of temporus, it’s pure trash.
There's nothing hearthstone players hate more than cards being burned lol. Immolate is fine
people don't find it fun when they play against that style of deck.
Do you know what I don't find fun? Losing to the same net deck over and over. The games need a refresh and this card will curb some of the control decks out there, mainly warrior and rogue.
Immolate should set only 3-4 cards on fire instead the full hand.
