Balance Changes Coming Tomorrow - 8 Changes In Total!
Blizzard just announced 8 balance changes that will go live tomorrow. Let's take a look at what's going to get changed.
One change that you should know about:
- Fixed a bug where completing all Book of Heroes installments would not display the proper achievement or give the proper award. All players who have already completed all 10 Book of Heroes will automatically receive the proper award of a Golden Standard pack.

Dev Comments: After two weeks of monitoring the rapidly evolving United in Stormwind launch metagame, we’re making a few balance changes to slow down the speed of the game by a turn or two. Overall, this translates to two things: limiting the efficiency at which combo decks can assemble the pieces they need to win, and reducing the burst damage that board-based decks have access to from hand. We hope that these changes will give a bit more room for slower strategies to find success in this meta, and we’ll continue to keep an eye on the live game to see if any further changes are needed.

Arena Balance Update
We’ve updated the appearance rate of cards to ensure class balance remains close to the ideal 50% win-rate. Specifically, the win-rate of Druid, Warrior, and Demon Hunter should now be decreased. The win-rate of Mage, Priest, Rogue, and Shaman should now be increased. The win-rate of the other classes should be roughly the same as before.
Bug Fixes & Game Improvements
- Updated the Stealer of Souls animation to now only trigger if the card ends up in your hand (it does not trigger for cards that are Cast When Drawn, such as Soul Shards). The animation will also no longer trigger if the drawn card already costs Health instead of Mana (such as when you have two Stealer of Souls in play).
- Fixed card text errors for Psyfiend and Florist (no functional change to either).
- Fixed a bug where Prismatic Jewel Kit would trigger when effects returned a Divine Shield minion to the owner’s hand or moved a Divine Shield minion from the owner’s hand to the owner’s deck.
- Fixed a bug where Seek Guidance (the Priest questline) would sometimes count the original Cost of cards, instead of the Cost actually paid for the card.
- Fixed a bug where the Initiate Set version of Eye Beam did not properly display card art in the Collection Manager.
- Fixed a bug where Reborn Rites, The Lich King’s Battlegrounds hero power, caused players to disconnect from the game server.
- Added interactions between Pave the Way (part of the Paladin Questline) and Duels-specific hero powers.
- Fixed various bugs in Book of Heroes Gul’dan and Book of Heroes Illidan.
- Fixed a bug where Duels achievements were not tracking properly.
- Fixed a bug where Witchwood collection achievements triggered even though the requirements were not yet met.
- Fixed a bug where completing all Book of Heroes installments would not display the proper achievement or give the proper award. All players who have already completed all 10 Book of Heroes will automatically receive the proper award of a Golden Standard pack.
Holy shit, OTK DH was wiped out from the face of existence, guess the class is dead until miniset since no one plays DR..
Very surprised to see no nerfs to Face Hunter AT ALL. Seriously? The best deck by a large margin wasnt even touched? Very confused at this one.
PS: the Priest Quest bug fix LMFAO! If it was played before, it sure as hell aint gonna be played EVER.
Kolkar Pack Runner got hit, it coming down 1 turn later makes it slightly harder for Hunters to build a huge board / fight for board early.
Also that priest quest bug fix most certainly is not a reason to play the quest less, sometimes when you discountet like a 9 mana dragon to 8 you would not get any progress. Not saying it now is good/playable but the bug fix if anything is more likely a "buff".
Um, kolkar pack runner totally got nerfed & I’ve said this before ( I’m a huge hunter player 7500 ranked wins) even so EVERY HS player should be aware of Face Hunter it’s been around for ever.
Face hunter has been around forever basically because that's the only way the class has been good with 1 or 2 exceptions.
they never realized that aggro are universal (questions) and removal/control are specific (answers)
-> and that's why the underlying structure will always fail, no matter how you change some numbers around
Quest Warlock will still absolutely DECIMATE everything after these balance changes. Control will remain dead. The meta will be completely same. Some things just happen a turn later.
Laughable changes. That won't solve ANY of the current issues with standard. So nice of them to eliminate the animation of the broken deck cards so they can pull off their turn 5/6 OTK more reliably. GJ Team 5 on doing nothing again.
Yep
meh, all in all good, doesnt change the underlying problem though
control will still not exist anytime soon or ever again
even more aggro builds coming in, yay
as always, i should say
If Demon hunter OTK is dead, Druid will see less play since their main target was Demon Hunter. This is why you shouldn't kill an archetype nor cheer for it. It's not good for the game. The goal of balancing the game is to ensure variance, not to provide divine punishment for people that sometimes drew perfectly and killed you too soon, usually 1 turn before you could kill them with your broken giant + battlemaster combo.
Man, I was looking forward to playing Wild again
Ignite? HELLO?
They're never going to nerf Ignite, it's only an issue in niche situations. (Where games are already over)
... should just be able to hit minions. Right! :D
But they have to change Stealer of Souls and Arbor Up
They are waiting 4 months later when the next expansion of more powercreep cards comes out, that is when Ignite seems bad enough to deserve a nerf.
I think all the quest rewards should have gone up in cost significantly. I guess they didnt want to refund all that dust.
Look, all I would like to see is some form of counterplay for well... everything. Not all at once, but if you decide you never want to lose to a specific thing it would be nice if you could craft a deck that can counter it.
I suppose aggro IS intended as a counter to the quests. But I would like something more reactive. Maybe a card to reset quest progress? It can be a really dead card for every other match, but having the option to have it would make me feel better.
I mean, don't fuck up the priest quest anymore than it needs but yeah, the really fast ones to complete should have a higher cost, especially because it's so quick and game ending
allso i dont thing this nerf will bring back control so the nerf was to weak in my book... but i dont thing any nerf will be able to bring control back unless there kill lots of card...
This is 100% how I imagine players stuck in Gold (or even Diamond 5) to act lol.
First of all if you rant, take at least the time to make it a bit readable?
Secondly, what are you babbering about? The Conviction Buff is huge for Pala, since the earlierst they can combo OTK you with a stealth minion is turn 7, which is a big difference to have a full 6 mana turn guaranteed.
Having said that, I am unsure whether the Warlock nerf will be strong enough. The Zoo Lock is affected most by it, and it was the worst of the 3 archtypes (other being pure demon and the last one the more handlock based one).
The strongest but also hardest deck imo is the one played by Gaby and Blyze, which goes full Demon - if reduced Darkglare costs 1 now instead of 0 it still won't stop them from popping off, I think the only way to target that interaction is to make Stealer of Souls effect a battlecry like "the next 2 cards you draw cost health instead of mana". This would still be very strong (people can tempo him on turn 4), but it will not lead to crazy turn 5/6 OTKs.
so you chatting about a game you thing is dead??? this game is 1 of the biggst game in the world sure its not 1 of the biggst streamed anymore but its still going strong...
