Balance Changes Coming Tomorrow - 8 Changes In Total!
Blizzard just announced 8 balance changes that will go live tomorrow. Let's take a look at what's going to get changed.
One change that you should know about:
- Fixed a bug where completing all Book of Heroes installments would not display the proper achievement or give the proper award. All players who have already completed all 10 Book of Heroes will automatically receive the proper award of a Golden Standard pack.

Dev Comments: After two weeks of monitoring the rapidly evolving United in Stormwind launch metagame, we’re making a few balance changes to slow down the speed of the game by a turn or two. Overall, this translates to two things: limiting the efficiency at which combo decks can assemble the pieces they need to win, and reducing the burst damage that board-based decks have access to from hand. We hope that these changes will give a bit more room for slower strategies to find success in this meta, and we’ll continue to keep an eye on the live game to see if any further changes are needed.

Arena Balance Update
We’ve updated the appearance rate of cards to ensure class balance remains close to the ideal 50% win-rate. Specifically, the win-rate of Druid, Warrior, and Demon Hunter should now be decreased. The win-rate of Mage, Priest, Rogue, and Shaman should now be increased. The win-rate of the other classes should be roughly the same as before.
Bug Fixes & Game Improvements
- Updated the Stealer of Souls animation to now only trigger if the card ends up in your hand (it does not trigger for cards that are Cast When Drawn, such as Soul Shards). The animation will also no longer trigger if the drawn card already costs Health instead of Mana (such as when you have two Stealer of Souls in play).
- Fixed card text errors for Psyfiend and Florist (no functional change to either).
- Fixed a bug where Prismatic Jewel Kit would trigger when effects returned a Divine Shield minion to the owner’s hand or moved a Divine Shield minion from the owner’s hand to the owner’s deck.
- Fixed a bug where Seek Guidance (the Priest questline) would sometimes count the original Cost of cards, instead of the Cost actually paid for the card.
- Fixed a bug where the Initiate Set version of Eye Beam did not properly display card art in the Collection Manager.
- Fixed a bug where Reborn Rites, The Lich King’s Battlegrounds hero power, caused players to disconnect from the game server.
- Added interactions between Pave the Way (part of the Paladin Questline) and Duels-specific hero powers.
- Fixed various bugs in Book of Heroes Gul’dan and Book of Heroes Illidan.
- Fixed a bug where Duels achievements were not tracking properly.
- Fixed a bug where Witchwood collection achievements triggered even though the requirements were not yet met.
- Fixed a bug where completing all Book of Heroes installments would not display the proper achievement or give the proper award. All players who have already completed all 10 Book of Heroes will automatically receive the proper award of a Golden Standard pack.
Incanters flow should cost 4.
Dark glare should not have gotten a buff.
Darkglare being turned into a 3-cost unit is a nerf, not a buff. The sooner a Warlock can play it, the higher the chances they'll be able to overwhelm their opponent via mana cheating. A move from 2 to 3 mana is significant.
Manual win-rate influence. "Ideal 50%". What a shame.
the game is much better when it becomes Shamanstone and ladder is all mirrors of the one deck without a weakness right?
Is it just me or are the changes not really effecting the game? BTW, I think the design development Blizzard chose is rubbish. Each set is basically a set for its own. There used to me more room for new tricks and combinations with already existing deck types. I miss Ben Brode
Fungalmancer Flurgl still shit. 0:3 so far. If you dont hit brann youre just dead.
It's clear that they just want people to stop playing Wild so more money for them. At this point veteran wild players don't spend a dime anymore and it's known that is by far the cheapest format. Some players will definitely leave but others (who can't) will try standard and spend money. It's not a random thing that they don't care about wild less over time, all calculated.
Literally every toxic deck touched by this nerfs:
Oh no...
Anyway
Weird, it seems like I can't dust nerfed cards for full refund, anyone had the same?
Edit: Ok, nevermind, restarted a game and everything is good.
Garrote and Ignite unchanged... Thanks blizzard...
Neither of these cards are the issue or broken.
2 mana 8 damage and infinite damage are a problem...
Ignite isn't the problem. It's a really good design that pushes fire mage. At first, its slow. 2 mana deal 2 is bad. 2 mana deal 3, is below par, 4 and up is a benefit. In order to gain that benefit, you have to draw it a total of 3 times, or a total of 2 times if it's in your opening hand.
I think that's good design. What isn't good design is mana reduction, draw your deck for free, then proceed to loop with Ignite in a single turn. THAT'S the problem. The combination of flow, spring water, and auctioneer (or whatever is used) is the issue. The problem is that you can't interact against that as the opponent, except if they're Mage, and that is even less fun.
Oh, and 0 mana draw 5+ with Cram Session is also an obvious badly designed card when getting spell damage is easy in this meta.
These were the most meaningless balance tunings in the game.
Flesh Giant should be 12 mana, Incanter's Flow into hall of fames, Darkglare 10 mana 0/0. Also garrote? Hello? It's the most annoying when you watch your opponent cycling through his/her whole deck in 1 turn and you cannot counter it with like anything... get your s**t together Blizz....
Nothing has changed. Also the main problem still stands... Decks with 0 interaction with board.... Can't wait the April when finally we get rid of the idiot no minion mages. Even when I win it's boring as hell.
HS TEAM. UM….. GARROTTE IS STILL A CARD. YOU GUYS DID NOT TEST GOOD ENOUGH LIKE USUAL COME ON.
No golden pack and my dh book of heroes is incomplete again. Nice bug changes
I do not even know what to say. I've been playing Hearthstone since beta and for the first time I don't feel like i wont to play ladder. I am literally sick of what I see there.
I agree, though it's not the first time, for me. I've felt this way since Darkmoon Faire.
I got lucky with Golden Standard pack and got a Golden Rouge Questline! :D
