Dean Ayala Asks: What Would Get You Back Into Hearthstone?
Hearthstone's Dean "Iksar" Ayala had a question for those that used to main Hearthstone as a game but no longer do.
What do they need to do to get you back?
We're actually quite interested in knowing too. With many old Hearthstone players still frequenting our site to see what the game is up to or to chat with old friends, there has to be something the Hearthstone team could do to reel you back in?
Quote from Dean AyalaIf Hearthstone used to be your main game but isn't anymore, what would get you back?
This 100 times. Look at Naxx. It was fun to play out, get the cards, and the cards were worthwhile for the most part. Now the expansion has 128 new cards, all of which 20-35 have any real solid use. It used to be 30 cards and over half them were absolutely worth having for a deck.
Infinite value cards and extremely high value cards need to not exist going forward (DK Jaina, Rexxar, Gul'dan)
Win condition cards need to go (Mountain Giant, Hyena, Flappy Bird)
Get out of jail free cards (Reno, healing rain) Don't need to be created going forward.
I stopped paying when they removed the adventure expansions. Bring them back and you'll get me back as a buyer.
Stop nerfing classic cards (or Any cards for that matter) into the ground so they are completely unuseable. I haven't played since the last druid nerf and that wasn't even because I play druid, I don't. They nerfed classic cards to the point where having them is basically worthless. It honestly feels like they nerf cards like that so the new sets are more necessary to play. And they nerfed Hex to 4 mana a while ago when Shaman felt really weak to me.
Nothing. Cards like Jade Idol, Caverns Below and Shudderwock already did their damage for me.
Only thing that would eventually bring me back is more aesthetics. Like, ability to change gameboard into grass or ice, I’m bored of looking at the same dusty board for 5 years already.
- More heroes. If you can do so many voices and art for expansion’s adventure bosses, you can make it for the play mode too.
- More things in store. Things we have in our current store are literally ‘BUY MOAR CARDS’ and 3 heroes that are almost 4 years old. Yeah, nice in-game store Blizzard..
Don't print cards that allow decks like gallery priest because it's not fun to battle a pure rng deck. Generally, stop printing heavy rng cards, make the game about skill once again as it was first years. Make an achievement system, new play modes, TOURNAMENT MODE YOU BITCHES etc.
Get ride of discovered, it's the worst mechanic, a lot of my friends stop playing hearthstone because of it, it's just luck and we hate it
I would add an alternative art system that can be obtained in special tournaments and fireside gatherings.
Another type of letter apart from the gold version.
Things that focus on collecting and that the tavern owners have a way of highlighting more.
3 New class Death Knight, Demon Hunter and Panda.
Better ladder end season rewards. Level 20 just about 1 golden common and few dust. Why not 1 booster from any (even rotated) expansion too. Card back is nice, but. Some small value for climbing rank in lower rank.
Once per week 1 weekly quest for nice boost value something from this bucket(100 gold and 100 dust, 2 random boosters (even wild), 150 gold, free arena ticket, ...).
Add 1 card per session out od regular expasion schedule. Symbol of year on card. To get card, you need to accoumplish seesion quest, first 1000 player will get golden vesrion of that card. After session card will be craftable. (e.x. Neutral Minion for 6 5/7 Battlecry: Discover a card from other classes that both players have).
Ben brode and just new types of decks. New win conditions but not too powerful of win conditions.
You weren't reimbursed because rotation isn't deletion - Blizzard simply added a new play mode. It's perfectly true that lots of people made a "big deal" out of it. Oddly enough, this often entailed pretending that Wild didn't exist.
It does.
Just hit the little Raven icon at the top of your Standard UI page - it turns into a little vine-y icon, and your complaint instantly disappears . . .
GLHF.
I would be amazing if every class had a viable deck. Why is it that 2-4 classes pretty much dominate the ladder? I never understood the logic behind Ben Brode's comment "Yeah we intentionally print bad cards....because some people like playing with bad cards and trying making them work" Please. How about stop printing bad cards. Of the 135 cards printed every xpac how many are actually used? Print good cards. Stop printing bad cards.
Out of the 135 cards let's try to have more than 30 (if that) actually be something you would want in your deck.
This is the most bizarre request of all. If all cards are at the same power level, then NONE OF THEM are good cards. To have a dichotomy exist, you must have both ends of that dichotomy. You really think the game would be better if they released 135 Drakonid Operative-level cards? If so, I have some beachfront property in Idaho I'd like to sell you.
1) No more infinite resource generation cards.
2) A rework for Discovery. Make it so that in doesn't discover a card if your starting deck already has 2 copies of it (no more mages with 4 fireballs or 3 flame strikes), unless the Discovery card allows you to discover a copy of a card in your deck. And no more discovering even-cost cards for odd decks and vice-versa. (yes, I lost to an odd paladin who got 2 Sunkeeper Tarims from 2 Stonehill Defenders). This way, you have more chance to discover some cards which aren't to good but are useful in certain situations.
3) Remove Baku and Genn and instead print more cards that have a Battlecry that activates if your deck is odd or even.
4) No more infinite damage OTK decks. I don't mind comboing cards but at least restrict them to do a maximum of 14 or maybe a little more damage.
5) A new keyword called "Ranger" maybe which gives a minion immune when attacking.
Achievments, goals ... something to work towards.
This is what I said as well. Some sort of player progression outside of leveling each class to 60 (which doesn't feel very rewarding / fun anyway)
A new class maybe?
New format, more achievements/awards
I play a lot less than used to and the major reason is the feel the game is decided by the matching system and not for the luck/skill of the players.
Give all archetypes techs to have a chance vs anything, aggro can have something neutral and good like Loatheb vs control and control need a very good tech vs combo, etc...
The game is lost from the beggining, like CW vs Exodia mage or aggro vs CW is terrible.
