Quote from BlizzardWith the top 16 countries and regions in the world identified, it’s time to see which teams will advance to the Hearthstone Global Games (HGG) playoffs at BlizzCon®. Celebrate the journey with HGG Cheer—a new program that allows you to support your favorite teams and unlock rewards in-game and on Twitch along the way!
From Sept. 17 through Nov. 4, you can support participating HGG teams by Cheering with Bits on Twitch. As you Cheer for a team using their dedicated, custom Cheermote, a portion of the revenue will go back to the players on that team.
When you Cheer for a team, you’ll also be able to unlock special Twitch emotes and in-game rewards for Hearthstone based on how much you Cheer. In addition to personal rewards, community support can unlock global rewards for everyone who has Cheered as overall milestones are reached.
You’ll be able to see your personal and global progress on the official Hearthstone Twitch channel. HGG supporters can see:
- Your Progress: As you Cheer (for any team), you’ll make progress towards unlocking Twitch emotes and in-game rewards—including card packs and a card back—based on the level of Cheering you’ve done as an individual.
- Global Progress: Monitor the overall support for HGG and keep track as overall levels of Cheering unlock global rewards for supporters over a minimum level of personal Cheering.
Here’s how to participate in HGG Cheer and unlock rewards:
- Link your Blizzard account to your Twitch account.
- Visit the official Hearthstone Twitch channel any time from Sept. 17 through Nov. 4.
- Select the Cheermote of the team you wish to support, then add the number of Bits you wish to Cheer (plus an optional custom message).
- Check back in the Tavern once goals are reached to automatically receive your rewards! (The card back will be added in a future Hearthstone update.)
Everyone, get in here! Support your team in the Hearthstone Global Games and follow them as they chase the trophy at BlizzCon. The program goes live on Sept. 17, so link your accounts, get your Bits, and be ready to start Cheering for HGG!
Frequently Asked Questions
Quote from BlizzardHow much revenue does a team receive when I Cheer for them?
For each Bit Cheered for an HGG team, that team and Blizzard (as the tournament organizer) receive an equal amount of revenue. The HGG team’s portion is divided evenly among the four team members.
Which teams are included in HGG Cheer?
Brazil, Singapore, Ukraine, United Kingdom, Bulgaria, China, Chile, Chinese Taipei, Spain, Switzerland, New Zealand, Netherlands, Norway, Hong Kong, Portugal, and the United States are included.
How do I Cheer for a team?
To Cheer for your team of choice, click on the Bits icon in the corner of the chat window, select that team’s Cheermote, add the number of Bits you want to use, and optionally add a custom message to cheer them on.
Can I use the regular Cheer command for HGG Cheer?
No, regular Cheers won’t work for HGG Cheer. You can Cheer for any of the 16 remaining HGG teams using their team-themed Cheermotes.
I forgot to link my Blizzard Battle.net account before Cheering! Can I still get the items?
Yes! First, link your Blizzard account to your Twitch account. When you return to the Hearthstone Twitch channel, you’ll see that a “Redeem All” button has appeared. Hit that button to claim your items!
Where can I watch HGG in my native language?
You can view HGG in English, Russian, French, Korean, Japanese, Mandarin, and Thai.
As predicted, I was quite easily able to collect enough bits for free from watching ads to receive every reward (with over a month to spare I might add). All of the complaints within this comment section have now been made meaningless. However, as I know there will be some contention to this claim, here are my responses to some common replies I expect.
1. "You wasted so much time collecting bits"
Actually since I did it as a background task, strictly no time was wasted.
2. "Bits cannot be collected in some countries"
Others have already addressed this issue and given solutions.
3. "Congrats, you have supported a greedy filthy company"
Firstly, a large portion of the money in this event goes towards the teams you cheer for. However, even if all the money went towards Blizzard, I don't see the validity of arguing against giving money to a company that needs money to function. To say "I want a company to continue supporting this game so I can play it, but I'm going to denounce anyone who funds such a company" is pure foolishness. How does one expect a company to continue making the game if they don't have money?
4. "That's great for you, but now it's too late to do this"
There is still plenty of time. I collected all the bits I needed in 2-3 weeks. However, even if this was the case I don't consider missing a promotion a viable excuse to complain about the promotion. That's just regret and envy if anything.
TL;DR How about instead of complaining about a promotional event, you be thankful that Blizzard gives you the opportunity to get packs and other rewards at strictly no cost to you while giving you the opportunity to support players and the company for free. This event was a win win for all parties.
14 Packs and a Cradback for 34$

You can cheer - even though the stream is offline. Card back will be added in a future patch.
It's been a week and I have tried every day to get free bits from watching ads, but it never works. Have they disabled this completely?
no, but it rarely works, i could gain 5 bits just once in my entire twitch life.
So you have to cheer for 2500 bits to get a cardback. Are they crazy?
lolblizzard. trying to crowdsource tournaments. nothanks.
I bought bits but can't find 'cheer' or 'bits' button in the chat window. Where is it?
seems like the event hasn't started yet. so cheers are not enabled there
If you are in certain countries, you can earn bits by watching ads. The numbers of ads is limited and it takes hours, or days, to earn substantial bits. Other than that, you need to buy them. TLDR: this campaign feels like a grubby scam.
Well, I'm fine with this, if they want 2-3 € for the cardback. But I'm pretty sure, they want more...
So I'm basically required to pay for some random crap? Nope ty.
i believe you can watch ads for bits (unless they got rid of that thing) yeah i am correct. if you can get somehow ads work you can watch just 20 ads at twitch channel you like. How do you get it: type cheer100 when channel is streaming->it says: you have 0 bits and from right of it is: get bits, click get bits->it should bring this: Get 5 or more Bits by watching short ads , at top of the other bit purchases. just remember to disable adblocker because otherwise you can't get ads (obviously), the ads support twitch which then allows you to get free bits to donate to streamers.
You can't get free bits from ads if you don't live in the US.
Actually you can, if you live in US, Canada, UK, Australia, Germany, Finland, France, Netherlands, Norway, New Zealand, Sweden, Taiwan, Japan, and South Korea using Twitch mobile app. And VPN is always a thing for those desperate enough.

Don't worry... the whales will come.
I can't. I am stuck on 'try again tomorrow'... For 2 days... The juice isn't worth the squeeze.
I probably missed it somewhere but does it specify how many bits we have to cheer to receive the rewards?
No, they are keeping it a secret, apparently.
