Quote from BlizzardWith the top 16 countries and regions in the world identified, it’s time to see which teams will advance to the Hearthstone Global Games (HGG) playoffs at BlizzCon®. Celebrate the journey with HGG Cheer—a new program that allows you to support your favorite teams and unlock rewards in-game and on Twitch along the way!
From Sept. 17 through Nov. 4, you can support participating HGG teams by Cheering with Bits on Twitch. As you Cheer for a team using their dedicated, custom Cheermote, a portion of the revenue will go back to the players on that team.
When you Cheer for a team, you’ll also be able to unlock special Twitch emotes and in-game rewards for Hearthstone based on how much you Cheer. In addition to personal rewards, community support can unlock global rewards for everyone who has Cheered as overall milestones are reached.
You’ll be able to see your personal and global progress on the official Hearthstone Twitch channel. HGG supporters can see:
- Your Progress: As you Cheer (for any team), you’ll make progress towards unlocking Twitch emotes and in-game rewards—including card packs and a card back—based on the level of Cheering you’ve done as an individual.
- Global Progress: Monitor the overall support for HGG and keep track as overall levels of Cheering unlock global rewards for supporters over a minimum level of personal Cheering.
Here’s how to participate in HGG Cheer and unlock rewards:
- Link your Blizzard account to your Twitch account.
- Visit the official Hearthstone Twitch channel any time from Sept. 17 through Nov. 4.
- Select the Cheermote of the team you wish to support, then add the number of Bits you wish to Cheer (plus an optional custom message).
- Check back in the Tavern once goals are reached to automatically receive your rewards! (The card back will be added in a future Hearthstone update.)
Everyone, get in here! Support your team in the Hearthstone Global Games and follow them as they chase the trophy at BlizzCon. The program goes live on Sept. 17, so link your accounts, get your Bits, and be ready to start Cheering for HGG!
Frequently Asked Questions
Quote from BlizzardHow much revenue does a team receive when I Cheer for them?
For each Bit Cheered for an HGG team, that team and Blizzard (as the tournament organizer) receive an equal amount of revenue. The HGG team’s portion is divided evenly among the four team members.
Which teams are included in HGG Cheer?
Brazil, Singapore, Ukraine, United Kingdom, Bulgaria, China, Chile, Chinese Taipei, Spain, Switzerland, New Zealand, Netherlands, Norway, Hong Kong, Portugal, and the United States are included.
How do I Cheer for a team?
To Cheer for your team of choice, click on the Bits icon in the corner of the chat window, select that team’s Cheermote, add the number of Bits you want to use, and optionally add a custom message to cheer them on.
Can I use the regular Cheer command for HGG Cheer?
No, regular Cheers won’t work for HGG Cheer. You can Cheer for any of the 16 remaining HGG teams using their team-themed Cheermotes.
I forgot to link my Blizzard Battle.net account before Cheering! Can I still get the items?
Yes! First, link your Blizzard account to your Twitch account. When you return to the Hearthstone Twitch channel, you’ll see that a “Redeem All” button has appeared. Hit that button to claim your items!
Where can I watch HGG in my native language?
You can view HGG in English, Russian, French, Korean, Japanese, Mandarin, and Thai.
Just interested in the packs, started 2 years ago, missed plenty of cardbacks. Not into giving too much, cause the players on these teams make more than the streamers I support.
Though it looks good, I'm passing on this card back and saving my money. The upcoming Van Cleef card back is way better than this one.
If it's anything like the Overwatch League rewards, you can just let everyone else unlock stuff for you, just have to connect your account. But I'm guessing the card back will have to be personally earned. No thanks.
Not taking part in this shit is the best you can do
Yeah I'm very curious on how many bits will be required for the card back..
If it costs anywhere between 30 and 50$, people will be MAD.
Personally I'm a collector and I have no choice but to buy it, no matter what price it is.
how much money will I need to throw away for the card back ?
What I don't understand is why ask for donations through Twitch, and losing a cut to Amazon when Blizzard can simply sell the cardback directly like they've been doing with all other in-game content? Is this supposed to dupe players into thinking we're not spending actual money on it?
Twitch and Blizzard are in a long-time partnership, where both parties are interested in raising popularity of Game streams. So it's mosly about that.
How about some transparency? HOW MANY bits will be required to unlock WHAT REWARDS?
Depending on the numbers, this could be anywhere from easy packs to a complete scam.
Blizzard knows that people collect card backs, so they use that knowledge to try to manipulate behaviour. I'm not surprised, but it does feel scummy.
You don't need Facebook for Twitch. I don't have my Facebook linked to Twitch and it works just fine for me.
Even worse, I'm pretty sure you need facebook to be allowed to post in Blizzard's official twitch channel chat. So even if you have bits and want to spend them there, you must have a facebook account, too.
I do hope Blizzard got a lot of money to promote those twitch bits, cause most of the community isn't getting anything out of this while they had to waste valuable developer time to get this all to work.
5,000,000 bits for 2 Boomsday packs. Did I read that right?
EDIT: nvm that's community goals. That's good, we can sit back and let the pay-piggies earn packs for the community
You had me turned off at Twitch chat.
More emojis than hieroglyphics on Egyptian walls.
/lemonade is the one true card back anyway
Slightly off-topic, but can someone explain why Germany did not make it to the top 16?
blizzard has been selling packs for money since ever.
but guess what?
instead of paying money for packs,
we can pay money for packs!
I thought the cardback was Twitch Prime loot. Guess I won't be getting it LUL
Instead of this, they could have added more deck slots, you know since everyone wants it but its blizz we'r talkin about.
But is it more important than some more PR? Guess not
Does anyone even read twitch chat? It's like bathroom reading material for people with ADHD, it moves so fast you can barely see it.
