Blizzard Rethinking Wild Pack Purchases
Ben Brode was out on reddit this evening and stated the Hearthstone team has been thinking about allowing pack purchases for Wild content due to their additional focus on the gamemode this year. Unfortunately, they aren't ready to say anything else right now.
The thread, "Why can't we buy Wild packs?" has been a question since Standard became a thing back in 2016. Unfortunately, nothing has been said about Adventure content but we can only hope that they too returns should packs for Goblins vs Gnomes and The Grand Tournament make a comeback to the shop.
Quote from Ben BrodeWe've been rethinking our stance on this with our additional focus on Wild this year. Will update you as we have more concrete information.
Would be nice if they also made something similar to the Welcome Bundle but for Wild. Would be very helpful to some newer players to get introduced to the format
Woke up at 6am and already 8 pages of hobos asking for extra sh*t in a pack.
I really think they should just make a "Wild Pack" Which can get you any 5 cards from any of the Sets or Adventures in wild instead of having GvG, TGT, and the various adventures as separate purchases.
Eh. Don't like that at all. What if you have most of the cards from TGT and the adventures and only want GvG? The amount of packs you'd have to open would be insane. Better to have them separate.
I think it would be a great idea if they offered packs again with some kind of value incentive. More cards per pack would be good, though that could be "exploited" for extra dust to make missing cards from the current expansion.
How about this: Make the price 1.50 per pack or 75 gold and half the dust to break down or build wild cards.
Gets rid of the ability to get more dust than a regular pack, but at the same time incentivizes crafting wild cards with your dust. I know I would definitely spend 800 dust on a few wild legendaries.
The only problem I see with this is it halves the dust value of your standard cards when they rotate out. This might actually incentivize cannibalizing those cards before you lose the value. That would be very bad for the Wild format.
Hmmmm. Maybe it should remain 5 cards per pack for a slightly reduced cost, say maybe 25%. Dusting totals remain unchanged, but costs to craft wild cards are also reduced by 25%. So 1200 for a legendary. 300 for an Epic, 75 for a Rare, and 30 for a Common. That way the incentive to buy and craft wild cards somewhat counter-balances the incentive to just buy wild packs to get extra dust for standard.
As a bonus, that little bit of extra value you get encourages people who don't play Wild to buy Wild packs, which a) would help make up blizzard's profit loss for offering the wild packs at a discount, and b) might end up getting standard only players more interested in trying out Wild.
Just as there is a notice about new packs that they are new, there should be also warning about the old ones that they are wild only. That would be sufficient, lets sell them again
They sort of do it already. If you tried buying a tgt pack right before ungoro, (or gvg before wotg) then it says they are being moved.
To be honest I can't see why they have stopped the sale of Wild packs or even the adventures for that fact. Sure I prefer Standard play, but at the same time I know there are some players who prefer Wild over Standard. I can't see why this should be or even be a problem in the first place.
If you open up the chance to buy older packs, you also open up the opportunity for more players to play Wild if they wish to do so.
I think at the time they introduced the Standard format, Blizzard was concerned there would be confusion and that players might feel ripped off if they bought a pack and then discovered they couldn't use those cards that they JUST bought in the brand-spanking new format that was being hyped and promoted.
Now that Standard and Wild are just the normal accepted formats of the game that everyone has gotten used to, the possibility of confusion is much lower. So why not consider bringing the wild packs back?
I played since the beginning, and still got all the Wild cards. I play both Wild and Standard, both are fun to play. But why they made GvG and Naxx (now BRM, GT, LoE) unavailable to buy, just to maybe make them viable again, does'nt make any sense. It's Blizzard in a nutshell really. Thinking about what's best for them ($$$) , not what's good for the players..
They can create wild packs contaiňing cards from wild only expansions.
Good idea yeah, a "Wild" pack, with all of the adventures included in 1 pack. Pay 100g for a pack with 5 cards, just like a standard pack -but in the wild pack, u can get all of the wild cards Mixed in one. That would be fun. But if you only need Naxx and GvG, and you keep on getting BrM, GT and LoE cards in the packs, because of bad odds.. then it was a waste. :)
Lets be honest we all are thinking about money, but blizzard seems cant get enough of these thoughts.
Well, I've saved a three packs from each GvG and TGT. I've always hoped they would do something like this so I could open them.
I think it might be a nice idea if they returned at a discount? Like, 50 gold a pack, or one pack contains 7 cards? It would help new players in Wild.
That is great news! Love to see gvg booster available
You can expect wild packs to come back with a much more expensive price than standard.
They wont be cheaper cause people would just buy them to make cheaper dust. Bli$$ard would never allow that.
