How Good Is Kabal Chemist?
Kripparrian put out a video today on the Kabal Chemist to discuss its capabilities and overall usefulness. As always, Kripp also included gameplay featuring the card so watch below!
How do you feel about Kabal Chemist? Has it been a key card in any decks you've played?
Learn the Different Potions
We recently posted a guide to all the different potions the chemist can spawn.
I'm in my 30s, so I guess I'm not from this century. I do have a journalism degree, though. And I've worked in entertainment and gaming journalism since the early 2000s. I can assure you that "every media" is not filled with product placement and unethical advertising, at least not it's not the norm.
What Curse (and similar media) need to do is figure out whether they want to be a news publisher or a "content" publisher. I'll grant you that the latter is a hot mess right now, where the rules of traditional journalism don't apply. But the thing is, they want to have their cake and eat it too... They want all the respect and benefits that the press enjoys, but they don't want to follow the same rules as a real news publisher.
You should care about this issue. Everyone should care about it, unless they're okay with the decline of journalism into a big echo-chamber filled with self-serving, re-posted content that's been "screened" to only include coverage that enhances their revenue. (And that's not to mention the disappearance of truth and facts in news coverage.)
The type of websites that already conduct themselves like this -- the kind you're talking about, I think -- aren't real news organizations. They're usually either blogs masquerading as the press (like right-wing and left-wing political websites) or "portals" like Curse that are just huge content aggregators. The fact that you assume this is what all journalism is today; that's what scares me... I think you're probably not unlike many people your age, when it comes to this perception of the industry. That's why we're reaching a critical time, when we're finally going to have to deal with this and push back, or kiss it all goodbye for good.
I like, how you just assumed my age :) I'm 30, actually. And I also worked... not in game journalism tho. In the general media one. The one, which is on paper old-school. One of the biggest in our country. In the marketing department. The one, who was feeding all the other departments - from journalism to security in the lobby. And I can tell you for sure - journalism doesn't earn money. Journalism doesn't provide food on your table. And asking for someone to stick truly and righteously to that path is kinda selfish, if you ask me. Marketing provides money, ads and product-placements provide money.
Yes, of course, every "news" agency in our days striving between journalism and content, as you call it. They are all on the thin path, between trying to earn to much, but losing their readers (watchers, listeners), due losing their trust and interest or sticking to the "pure" stuff, working for tap on the shoulder and closing their project one day, cause they can't pay the bill. You don't know, how Curse is doing (you are assuming much tho) - how much money do they earn and how much do they pay their workers. But again, if you ask me, they are doing a Preeeeety Goooood (Kripp (c)) job, I tried other Hearthstone-related portals - this one is the best of them. So they are in right balance of things. But that's just me.
And, don't be confuse, I get your point. And in ideal world it works. The news stand would've been called "truth on paper" - only facts and nothing else. But we are living in different situations. If you are not adjusted - that kinda your problem. And you will be having difficulties.
The card is pretty, oh so pretty...
Turns out, it's preeeeeeeety goood!
I had to delete my positive comment because I took in just a tad too much salt once watching the game play. Buuuughhhh
Why do they put Kripp's video?
Kripp puts 2 HS videos everyday really so it's nothing special, always entretaining to watch, but it isn't really news..
I still need to watch this vudeo, but the one he uploaded 2 days ago about the games' health after gadgetzan was more concerning
Prooferino that Hearthpwn has literally nothing to talk about.
Is not bad, but i rather play kabal courier than this one
Same here, courier just gives you more flexibility. However, in arena I still pick Chemist almost every time.
Turns out its pretty goooood...
Personally as a weaker than vanilla body I think it's completely underwhelming. For that price you should get a discover mechanic.
Alternatively, strengthen the body and keep the rng to justify it.
In is current incarnation, gimmicky at best in my opinion.
Discover would be way to strong, I think the card is fine how it is.
Agree AND disagree.
Discover would be way too strong. There aren't enough Potions to make the Discover mechanic "clogged" with mediocre cards. Since there are only a few bad Potions, and mostly situational, then a usable card will nearly always be discovered.
The card isn't fine however, it's not seeing any play.
The individual Potions are nice, but a random situational card may end up being a dead card, turning this guy into a 4 mana 3/3 with no abilities.
