These are the Balance changes in the run up to the World Championship next week! This patch also has the dust refunds for the Cards changed earlier this week!
Quote from BlizzardPatch 28.2.1 is a data-only patch launching today with the following updates.
Hearthstone Updates
Dev Comment: This is our balance patch for Worlds! We specifically requested this early balance window so that we could make changes that we think will make the coolest Worlds possible! Overall, we think the meta is in a good spot, with most classes having something interesting to play and most top decks having play patterns we’re comfortable with. That lets us take a high confidence, step-wise approach with this patch, instead of making risky, drastic changes.
Enrage Warrior was the biggest standout we wanted to adjust down, and we wanted to make Sif Mage a bit more attackable. We’re also taking this opportunity to buff some underperforming archetypes, especially with new cards. Excavate as a whole got a little love with buffs to a Treasure at each rarity, the Neutral Burrow Buster, and a couple low-performance class Excavate cards.
We have another balance patch window lined up for shortly after Worlds where we’ll be able to make more changes—including maybe some more adventurous buffs. We’ll keep an eye on how these changes land and we hope you’ll join us for the World Championships on December 16th and 17th!

Bug Fixes and Game Improvements
- [Hearthstone] Discovery of Magic will now always offer three Discover options when played (if you’ve played enough spell schools that only 1 or 2 remain, it will fill in with random spell(s) from the same spell school(s)).
- [Hearthstone] Fixed a bug where Kingpin Pud couldn’t resurrect the entire Ogre-Gang.
- [Hearthstone] Fixed a bug where, if Reno, Lone Ranger was played while Hero Powers were disabled (like with a Mindbreaker in play), his Hero Power would not update.
- [Hearthstone] Fixed a bug where Chaos Gazer’s effect triggered at the end of the turn it was played, instead of the end of the opponent’s turn.
- [Battlegrounds] Fixed a bug where certain Tavern Spells weren’t ever offered in Discover options.
- [Battlegrounds] Fixed a bug where Hero Powers that upgraded as you upgrade your Tavern were auto-upgrading.
- [Progression] Fixed a bug where some players received the Tae’thalan Bloodwatcher achievement upon login.

Where are the buffs to f##king excavate rogue?!? Today I excavated 8 f##king times to get rewarded with 8 random spells, none of them costing originally more than 3 mana!!! Is this bulls##t supposed to be funny? Whereas mages and warlocks get rewarded with twice as insane stuff for half the excavates cost?!?!?
still no druid nerfs... imagine releasing a brain dead deck for their new expansion... can we do better please.
Does anyone know if it is intentional that Cenarion Hold does not trigger both effects from Wildheart Guff hero power?
Hero power is not a card
Makes sense- thought it might operate like the 4/4 does but I see the difference in wording now. Thanks.
I think it's the nerf round where i gained less. I had only one extra faceless, thank god at least i had a golden counterfeit blade
canary reads : return an enemy minion to its owners hand . LOL what the hell is the point of putting owner there since obviously its the opponent??
I honestly remember this card being able to return your own minions to your hand , did they mess it up ?
It's the same phrasing as Magic would do.
If the opponent takes control of one of your card, the ownership doesn't change.
So the bounce will eventually return the card to your hand even if it's controlled by your opponent
Please, describe step by step how to reproduce this. So far the owner has always been the player whose side the minion is. That led to confusion when playing cards like Explorer's Hat on opponent's minion: the hat was being added to opponent's hand instead of "your".
Exactly, until now.
I suppose that all cards that don't use that phrasing will continue to work as intended (like the Hat), while the canary will be the first to distinguish the owner from the controller.
The owner of a minion is the player that controls that minion.
If I have a minion, my opponent takes control of it, and I play Canary on it, it would return to my opponent hand, cause they are the current owner of the minion, despite not being the original owner of the card.
It just has that wording cause is no secret that HS it's inconsistent as hell. Bola Shot says neighbors and Grievous Bite says adjacent ones, while they have the same effect, and that dosn't implies that Bola Shot is asking you that the minions have to live on the same street, it only implies that HS has a lot of developments that don't talk to each other and they don't check old cards.
But Mechanically the Canary is literally Sap on a 2/2. There's non special rule or hidden mechanic as if this was MTG.
Turns out I wasn't the only one thinking Inquisitive Creation was busted.
How was Fate Splitter nerfed? What am I missing?
Actually, better yet... why are all these deathrattle centric cards on refund? Was deathrattle changed? I'm missing something lol

Changes to some cards (for example Madame Goya).
I'm quite surprised the reno hero is dodging the nerfs, I'd at the very least expect it to be on the watchlist. Probably the most powerful card ever printed in a vacuum at this point.
Why does it need a nerf? There needs to be an incentive to playing a highlander deck with a powerful pay off. And that only being one card that requires strict deck building seems totally fair…
Where druid nerf? where reno priest buff?
Buffing Antique Flinger doesn't feel like a buff to me. So sad I dusted my Madam Goya long time ago cause the card was literally useless.
Nevermind, it was changed from 4 to 3 lol
